"There was a 415 per cent increase in the number of applications for asylum in 2022 compared to 2021, and a 186 per cent increase from 2019." And we're on track for a 250% increase between 2022 and 2024. The number of asylum seekers arriving here is growing exponentially and its only likely to increase further in years to come with over a billion people being displaced by climate change.
Do you think Ireland should take in an unlimited number of people per year? Or what exact number do you think is our limit?
The wishes of the Irish people are quite clear on this, polls show a huge majority in favour of decreasing the number of asylum seekers we take in. SF voters even more so. SF are ignoring the will of the public at their peril, as their support levels plummeting shows pretty clearly.
The wishes of the Irish people are clear. The vast majority of them voted for candidates who do not support anti immigrant policies.
If you don't think governments attempt to buy votes with budget giveaways you are either lying or well and truly fooled.
Tough decisions? You are talking about the tax payer getting arbitrary treats over value for money and working services, being a good thing. 'Tough decisions' suggests working towards a greater goal down the road. Can you point to what form these supposed 'tough decisions' have been regarding housing, health and immigration? Was the lack of school buses a tough decision, designed to what exactly? How about closing numerous Garda stations? Can you show this 'tough decision' logic in working terms? Or, will you be giving it the 'turning a corner' shite?
Agreed. She is critical of immigration policy, not screaming 'Ireland is full'. Didn't Varadkar suggest flying them all home some years ago, before the supposed crisis?
The facts you don't like? Okay.
My only concern for SF doing poorly is more Fine Gael and Fianna Fail.
I see Fine Gael supporters dodging real life issues.
Leaving families in direct provision for years was wrong. I agree with the shinners on that.
I think, if we are short labour, as FF/FG were telling us, we should allow in as many as we need and no more. I certainly don't condone leaving humans fend for themselves on the canal side, only to be bussed off if theres an influx of tourists expected.
As regards Asylum seekers, with no papers, landing at an airport, I would cripple the airline responsible. I would do US style checks abroad. I would have a one strike and your out policy.
Agreed. She is critical of immigration policy
From the right (in recent weeks), saying the government has been too slow to restrict benefits for Ukranians and the likes
not screaming 'Ireland is full'.
neither is anyone in the government AFAIK. the bar she is clearing here is being more progressive on immigration than Justin Barrett and Derek Blighe…
🤣
You talk about facts
how many accounts have you burned on boards in last 5 years? Talking about facts
At some stage SF supporters might let the penny drop and realise the tactics deployed for years now is not helping the party and actually hurting it
Carry on by the way, the sooner SF get dropped kicked out of the Republic and Northern Ireland the better
🤣🤣
The faux outrage doesn’t wash a chara
She was probably referencing Ukrainians getting preferential treatment over others, how ever true that may be. I always liked their stand against DP.
You must have noticed Fine Gael and Fianna Fail members sounding more like their 'far right' over the last few weeks. Only in the last fortnight Harris has starting talking about more "effective deportations". workplace inspections for illegals etc.. To be fair many such things should have been in place years ago, but like everything else, they can't organise basic things. I mean who the hell invites asylum seekers over from Ukraine and then doesn't even have tents to give them?
You know you're losing when you start to try play the man.
You completely dodged the paying of welfare to working immigrants. FG using foreign companies to oversee their social media. Like Fine Gael you are avoiding the issues at hand to go on and on about Sinn Fein. Wrong thread. Not interested.
So you were just blowing smoke in the hopes you wouldn't be called on for examples. Figured as much.
Making the 'tough decisions', what a laugh.
How will SF get drop kicked from the Republic and NI? Thats wishful thinking on your behalf.
Largest party in NI and a sizeable party in the republic.
Who will replace them in this dilusional vision of the future?
The two traditional big hitters for a government buying votes are taxes and public sector pay.
Neither have kept pace with inflation during this term of government (in some countries tax bands auto index each year which they definitely should). So the tax burden has increased and real public sector pay has decreased during a period where they’ve had record surpluses. At a personal level I wish they used the surpluses to buy votes with lower taxes, but they are probably right not to have done so to overheat the economy.
The only significant ‘giveaways’ have been energy credits, mortgage interest relief & some double welfare payments all of which I believe were stupid, but at least not permanent ongoing commitments. Otherwise, very conservative budgets so far. Media nonsense may have painted them otherwise to some.
we can only hope,
only one blown smoke around here is you a chara 😂😂😂
There is not much more the airline can do, but regardless any kind of clamp down on the airlines is only going to make travel worse for the average passenger.
Okay, what's your views on the paying of welfare to working immigrants and FG using foreign companies to oversee their social media after crying out about others doing same? How about FG using English election think tanks? These were the issues raised.
As regards 'tough decisions', can you name some tough decisions FF/FG/Green made for the greater good? By greater good, I mean the general public.
I've never boarded a plane without a passport. I'm speaking on people landing in Dublin claiming to have no ID. The airline just has to show they verified each passenger before boarding. The threat of sanctions will simply ensure they keep available records.
The number of decisions made by the current government for the greater good have been since the first day it was formed during covid, the housing decisions etc
Decisions are made daily, down to what some people might claim are small like FiT for solar PV but it had a big affect.
Seems like you don't understand what these are, just read a load of rubbish on the web and then regurgitate it.
In terms of the noise you found on twitter about immigration etc. Bang away for another few months on that, it's been a great success so far from SF supporters at driving people away from the party, the more you do it the better,
Im sure the government will be sending the Sinn Fein online supporters a nice big box of chocolates and flowers to thank them
In terms of Palestine, Simon done more with one act than Sinn Fein and have Mary Lou have managed in years, all the waffle, flag waving and flags on twitter they have done nothing for anyone in Palestine
Another example of how terrible a party Sinn Fein are, the government has done more for a United Ireland with the cross border projects in the last 4 years than Sinn Fein have achived since it was formed as a Provisional Sinn Fein in the 70's
Yes, it amazing how the party in government have done more on foreign policy than the party in opposition. Lol, I wonder how that could be possible..
Ahh don't worry, keep up the excuses, it's such a huge success so far.
Im sure the people of Palestine are so happy with mary Lou changing her image on Twitter
Almost as meaningful a political act as Boyd-Barrett wearing a keffiyah in the Dail!
Plenty of noise makers around politics, not many who ever will or ever want to change anything
As I posted the cross border project by the government have done more in a few years towards a United Ireland and building relationship than anything else.
The so called "All Ireland party" is too busy bickering and show boating with every party North and South
And I'm sure the Palestinian people will be delighted when FG vote Ursula Von Der Leyen back in as EU President.
They already do this.
You need to go back and check sources, that hasn't happened yet.
Also, you need to see both sides of the conflict, if they vote for her Im sure they will provide the reason
Meanwhile Sinn Fein will do sweet f**k all, maybe another image change on twitter. "Wafflers" as Bertie would have called them 😂
I know, but it needs to be much steeper. In any case the putting undocumented in prison, then allowing them enter the asylum process seems wasteful.
Lol, no, it hasn't happened yet but they are members of the European party thet Ursuala is leader of. Clearly they've no issue with her. No doubt the reason will be hilarious.
One of the many things you must admire about Bertie. 😂
