I thought it might be useful to create a new thread to comment and analyse the Local Election results.

Time will tell how well he can do as Ireland's soccer manager 😁😉 seriously though could he get in on transfers in one of the counts?
Harris has been on top of his brief and out out some bush fires in that regard. He also played the situation well when the migrants starting arriving via the north by shifting by the debate to GAA Go. He’s a skilled hack and anorak on that regard.
The government put a huge amount of the immigration fire out by introducing harsh anti refugee measures like slashing payments to Ukrainians, removing tents, introducing new laws for those coming without documents etc.
Yeah I think some of the "far right" loons scared some people into voting for status quo. The real winners will be the Independents. We may see some new parties or more councillors moving to Independent Ireland who seem to be doing well.
Fine Gael/Fianna Fail have had a good election.
In Westmeath SF have 7 candidates and from the last count 3 have a chance depending on transfers.
Also in Athlone Boxer Moran has 3,725 votes last count with estimated quota of 1,567 at the moment.
From what I understand only postal vote is outstanding in Westmeath count.
I'm surprised at how well if true FFG are doing, no shock about SF
My own constituency. They’d four candidates running so definitely fancied it.
Immigration is a contentious issue and will remain on the table for the foreseeable future but appears that the voting public are not interested in handing over the reigns of the nation to facism to resolve it. That can only be a good thing.
What did I miss
It seems like the noisy minority got it wrong.
Most people are happy with the current government it seems.
Immigration not a major issue with most people, and right or left parties won't be make much gain.
If SH has any sense he'll run a GE asap.
From Micheal Lehane of RTE on Twitter:

or the Rte one was old. The link you provided that I looked at had people elected on the 6th count. It’s now blank.

It says he got 5% of the vote here.
He's done better in this count.
I think the RTE one is incorrect.
He’ll probably demand a recount
Yes, I'd expect that's correct. I'd likely get flak on here for my local #1, but like you said he works for his constituents and has a record to show for it.
You mean non-Irish. They probably have a nationality.
Does this look correct?

They have no hold, they are just the go to elected representatives if you want to get something done
SF not appearing at all in the tallys for Cabra-Glasnevin, right in the Midlle of Mary Lous constituency
As in most local elections, incumbents are doing well. That's an issue for FG in next GE where they are losing half their sitting TDs.
I think there is only so much you can read though into the local elections, where many people especially in rural locations will know the candidates personally. When I voted I did not want my own vote to be interpreted as an endorsement of national policy - I voted for the guy who said it was a priority to get the local playground fixed.
Possibly the other issue is that the change that the opposition is proposing is not the change they want. The big story could be how Sinn Fein have alienated their vote tbh. The other story will be how their is likely to be the most elected socially conservative politicians in 30 years, even if they don't sweep the boards.
of course we have to remember also that non nationals can also vote in the locals so that wont suit many independents either
when should we expect to get actual first counts from the local elections ?
