They're trying to shut down discussion after embarrassing themselves.
Otherwise, every single thread on boards would end this way.
Water is wet.
Twitter is great. (Friend sent me this - please sue him first BAM)
No every thread on boards wouldn’t be shut down so not sure how you came up with that one.
Thread is back to yet another post from Dr Harold News twitter account, normal standard of posting resumed
So lets say for arguments sake the election will be in Oct/ Nov does that mean the Dail will be dissolved a month before that?
Yes a GE must happen within 30 days of Dail dissolution. I'd say they will call it just after the giveaway budget but that might be moved earlier.
Jeez at that rate all the hoo hah over the local/ european elections will have barely died down when everyone will be in GE mode.
Where was that new BAM project Oxo?
Bascule bridge I'd say: https://www.newcivilengineer.com/latest/bam-starts-work-on-87m-bascule-bridge-across-irish-border-06-06-2024/
Tax revenue strong again (surprised certain posters aren't on here posting about it tbf) but my goodness spending is absolutely and recklessly out of control. Especially in health

Harris broke ground. Like RTE, business as usual.
They are good at getting money. It's the allocation of it they can't seem to grasp.
They were advised to take it handy, but I expect the give away bonanza to end all bonanzas in the election run up.
How has a motion of no confidence not been brought against Roderic, where are the large "opposition" party SF hiding
The agreements got put into place already for the rainy day fund and what will be put in
At this stage the same people repeat the same thing at every budget about a "give away" blah blah blah
Maybe it times to come up with something a little more inventive than repeating the same thing over and over again as if it is a bad thing to reward the tax payer in Ireland.
Fianna Fáil TD James O’Connor has called for his party to issue a pre-general election ‘firm line’ that they will not re-enter government with the Greens.
Just like these 'firm lines' eh Jamesie?
Doubt young James actually thought Martin would make such a commitment, probably just signalling to the farmers in his own constituency…
This is exactly why SF have lost half of their support in the last year. Complete refusal to engage with the migration issue that polls show is now #1 for the people of Ireland.
A no confidence motion in O'Gorman after those revelations would be electoral gold right now. Force the government to defend their handling of the referenda and migration policies at a time when the vast majority of the public is very upset with both.
Thats a fair assessment. They should do the honourable thing and merge.
Hardly. Migration not a huge issue for their working class support. They are going to at least double or triple their councillors today.
People also know they kept the pressure on the government over the Palestine situation when the government were trying to avoid it, that will huge for them and to their credit.
If you think people are going into voting booths today thinking about palestine,do ya know what you are deluded
Migration not a huge issue for their working class support.
What are you basing that on?
Its not often you see normally placid irish politicians fired up in this way is it. It has to be a major issue.
Did he care about all the children killed by PIRA?
A few fake tears in a video when he will be out telling everyone about the heros next week who would blow up a child on the way to a shop.
Major issue,my aunt Sally, what bubble are you living in ?
No wonder we are known as Treasure Ireland, lovely Heather also over the shambolic Charities Regulator

Not to just repeat what Loafing Oat said, but really - what are you talking about? Reducing migration is now the #1 issue for both voters in general, and SF voters in particular.
This is from the IT two weeks ago, Palestine barely registers in comparison:
And for specifically SF voters:
"There is an unmistakable toughening of the public mood. Just 15 per cent [of voters in general] say they want to see a more open policy toward asylum seekers, while 63 per cent – an increase of four points since February – want to see a more closed policy. Again, it is Sinn Féin supporters who show the toughest line – 70 per cent of them want to see a more closed policy."

SF have managed to decline from polling at 36% a year ago consistently to 23% now. At a time when the public is furious with the government over the housing crisis, the HSE, and migration policy. And when FG have been in government now for 13 years straight, and most people say we need a change.
SF are the largest party in opposition, who should be expected to capitalise on all of this discontent and desire for change. But currently its a shocking performance that shows they're just not listening to the public in general, or their voters in particular.
A few fake tears in the Dail is the latest in a poor attempt at Sinn Fein to change the narrative.
Mary Lou going onto programs and back tracking on her suggestions about housing is also showing, again, how incompetent the party is and people are starting to realise they will never solve the housing crisis
Maybe if they stopped blocking everything it will be the best SF can do for everyone
Yet it happens over and over again.
"reward the tax payer"? It's buying votes.
A good reward for the tax payer would be value for money. Functioning services. Affordable housing. Shorter hospital waiting lists. School buses.
"It's buying votes"
What a silly statement, the government are in place to represent the people of Ireland, they have to make tough decisions and when the going is good also reward the people. If they just tax the people all the time with no reward then whats the point
Seems to me you don't understand what a government job is and just another one of the permanent whingers we have on these threads, don't worry you have plenty of company round here.
Sad to see Fine Gael scrambling to jump on the anti-immigrant band wagon. Say what you like about them, they use to have a stance on such things, which at least gave the impression of a solid party.
Credit to Sinn Fein for not taking the easy route. They fought for immigrant rights for years and continue to do so. One of the few things they excelled at in my opinion.
Poor government immigration policy isn't the fault of the immigrants. If we had no housing crisis, immigration wouldn't be an issue.
Then we've stupid basic things like this.

I remember lots of 'sinister' stories about opposition social media being operated/ran from abroad.

However, Fine Gael using British think tanks to run their elections isn't new.

She said the changes made recently, alluding to cuts to the welfare received by Ukrainians and limits on the amount of time for which they are offered accommodation, were ‘long overdue’.
What a pile of nonsense :-)
I see SF supporters are scrambling to try "win" the election again and this is the type of waffle we see across the web
