Exactly.
We've had a very strong panel since 2019 and only 1 AI to show for it.
In '19 David Moran ran into traffic and we drew.
In '21 DC ran into traffic and we conceded a goal.
We've left a couple of AI behind us.
Dublin are definitely weaker now so we need to make hay while the sun shines until they rebuild again.
David Clifford should hopefully end up with 4 or 5 AI medals minimum.
That nearly cost us the game against Derry lase year and did cost us against Tyrone in 2021. Its better to win a bad one than lose a good one
I think the players were instructed to not run into traffic and get caught on the break.
It is difficult, but was there even one incidence, for example, of someone like Gavin White, running at pace, came on the shoulder of the man in possession to take the ball past the Derry player in front? I never thought I'd say this, but I missed Stephen O'Brien yesterday. He drove me mad with his running into cul-de-sacs, but the starting line-up missed a lot of that one on one bravery. If this Derry team had the same energy that they had last year, I don't think that we'd have won it.
It's difficult though.
Derry are a quality team and had 15 men behind the ball.
You have to play with patience.
I think if they banned passing back to the keeper, teams would just press from the front.
I think Jack has PTSD from Mikey Harte also so was extra cautious.
If we get the final against Galway, we can play more open.
One of the new rules might be that teams are forced to keep a certain number of player up the field. That would also stop all the boring shite. Something needs to be done though. Yesterday diminished the sport in my eyes and if we had lost I would probably have not watched another second of the all-ireland this year. Too many things annoyed me - tactics, the ref, the lack of bravery, the sheer monotony.
Boards.ie is slowly dying. I've noticed this forum dead after games fairly often.
Eamon Fitzmaurice gave an interview a couple of weeks ago on a trial game they held to trial new rule changes.
He said their goal was to have the most exciting amateur sport in the world.
I actually think just banning passing back to the keeper would be enough.
Very surprising lack of talk here after the game. Maybe we're all still recovering from that dull, dull, dull game. Let's all hope that some new rules are brought into the game as fast as possible.
Kerry, in the end, did enough against this Derry team that were pretty poor. My optimism levels haven't been raised too much though. There were just too many players that were sub-par.
Anyone have anything to say that might make me feel better about yesterday's game?
They seem to be relying on lads moving from outer counties not a good long term plan. I'm not sure what happened as in the mid 2010s there was a lot of Corkes lads on Kerry underage teams.
Crokes are non existent at juvenile level and for that reason alone shouldn’t be playing senior county championship. Where do they think they will find the new talent needed year on year to keep playing senior. Tralee Parnells are flying at all levels, the complete detachment from Austin Stacks had to happen for Tralee hurling to grow. The same thing needs to happen in Killarney so that they can pull players from all over Killarney.
In hurling. Underage hurling Crokes has gone hugely downhill in recent years i was told.
Kerry fans must be delighted. Very hard not being in the final at least. They haven't broke a sweat.
Do you mean in hurling or all sports?
Firies also fielding teams at underage. They've almost now overtaken Crokes in terms of underage in East Kerry in recent times.
Lol. Good knowledge. I didn't know that.
But hurling's definitely bring coached in lots of clubs across the county that previously weren't.
Well hurling isn't actually new in Rathmore. They got to a county final in the 30's and would have had a Junior team until at least the 80's.
I think we're in a growth phase of Kerry hurling.
Lots of clubs that never had hurling are coaching it underage now eg Crowley in Rathmore.
So in time we'll have a greater spread of players.
In recent years Crokes and in the late 2000s Kilgarvin both played in the Duhallow leagues. Daugh even played in West Limerick at one point.
The CB as with many things hurling related just want it out of the ASAP and don't give it a second thought.
Any update on Graham O Sullivians ankle injury
there is real potential in kerry hurling but , the clubs need to either set up a competition with west limerick or duhallow clubs or join another county's leagues to get the best out of them , the standard is quiet good at club level but rushing it off over the next few weeks dose nothing either
Very creditable performance by Parnells on their Championship debut - only defeated 0-16 to 0-14 by Lixnaw, despite a number of senior players being unavailable, perhaps they might upset Abbeydorney next time out.
Sad to hear the passing of Seán Óg Sheehy 1962 All-Ireland winning captain.
Spot on analysis of the game and Kerry set up. Having Paul Murphy, S o' Brien and P Geaney still playing is suicidal. Dara Moynihan also in that group. Keep S Murphy in goal for the next 2 games and put S Ryan in midfield as D o' Connor is not cutting it at this level. Wide open through the centre of defence again when run at, no playmaker, slow movement and fitness & strength not even close to Dublin,Derry & Donegal. The Kerry Board must act and get rid of Quirke & Murphy and bring in fresh faces & ideas. We have seriously regressed since 2022.
most of the clare praise needs to be directed to the o'rahillys man on the clare sideline ,
he got his matchups bang on but the difference in class won out , it was probably a bit of an fa cup tie with the novelty of home advantage too , but at least we threw everything at kerry and fought to the end which is something i have been very critical of better clare teams in the past for not doing
it would be a worry how much joy we got when we ran at the kerry backs, i get the paul murphy argument now too , he was picking up aaron griffin and was 2nd to every ball kicked in to him, i taught foley was excellent on his return i didn't think we would see him back so soon , i think some of the scores tony brosnan and david clifford kicked were exceptional because in cliffords case in particular the lads marking them did well in general
in truth i was worried we wouldn't surpass 10 points given the amount of players we lost after last year especially scoring forwards but the attitude was excellent in fairness hopefully we can back it up and beat cork in two weeks time , for kerry going forward the lack of impact the subs made has to change also the midfield took a bit of a hit too at times but it must be good to have foley and Beaglaoich back fit and ready for bigger challenges ahead , i have no doubt gavin white will be raring to go when it matters in a few weeks time too
D O Connor is the problem in midfield. Keep Murphy in goal for the next match and try S Ryan in midfield instead of D o' Connor. Barry Dan is also an option. Midfield is our weakest area in a lot of weak areas in the current set up. S o' Brien should not be on the panel for sure. Dara Moynihan again brings nothing productive and should be dropped. T Brosnan again does well against a smaller team but can he step up this year finally?. Jack needs to get rid of Quirke & Murphy and bring in another two with fresh ideas. This current set up has been poor for the second year running. We have regressed badly since the start of 2023 so management needs to be changed.
Fair play to Clare today giving us a solid test. They looked very well set up for us. Individually most of our guys did well but we don’t see to be operating as a unit well at all. The inability to score goals is the biggest evidence of this.
Jason Foley was excellent on his return. Tony Brosnan showed his scoring ability that everyone knows he has. Shane Murphy even did well in goals. Brian O Beaglaoich solid on his return too. Paul Murphy is playing his best football in a long time.
On the negative side, it looks like Stephen O Briens speed is gone. I don’t recall him taking on the Clare back line once. Even in his tracking back he didn’t look like in great shape. Lastly to repeat what I’ve said before, Joe O Connor is not the answer at midfield, himself and Diarmuid have no chemistry as a midfield partnership. Jack needs to try something new in the group stages like other counties have done. Dublin tried James McCarthy, Galway had Sean Kelly today etc. If Jack doesn’t think Barry Dan is the answer then maybe Mike Breen could do a job there or try Sean O Shea there again(His Mobility has improved massively this year so will get around the field a lot easier).
any chance the ferry will sink 😋
good performance for sure… and Kerry have plenty of footballing talent coming through.. but you just wonder how good were Cork…. there skill level was nowhere near the standard of the Kerry players and fitness wise they looked a tad off the pace…. it was game over 5mins into 2nd half… I would expect that the semifinal against Meath who looked very impressive dispatching Louth will be a stiffer test… still Tomas has 2 munsters in a row at this level…
Good performance by the U20s tonight - Rob Stack and Luke Crowley are obviously the recognised talents on the panel, but Tomás Kennedy and Gearóid Evans also stood out tonight.
If we beat Clare which we should we will have Monoghan at home, Louth at a neutral venue and Meath away. We will have no decent match before a QF probably
