………..
Nice idea by these men. I sure there are other places , clubs organisations etc that could do something simlar

How does this work with vouchers does anyone know?
Dunnes do a get 5 off 25 voucher. So if I buy 25 use that voucher can I then use the DRS voucher too?
He asked where does the charity bring the bags of cans.
Where would they go as I'd love to stockpile a couple of thousand cans and do it in one go?
Don't know where my post is gone 🙄....it may return soon
GAAReReturnGo.... subscription may apply...all proceeds reinvested in grassroots recycling or RTE/GAA/Drinks ltd. execs....
At least something good can come from this utter nonsense.
https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/porters-raise-thousands-for-hospital-with-deposit-returns-1633013.html
Sounds grand until the machine is broken. Or there's a huge queue.
ReturnGO?
I guess it will be subscription based in collaboration with RTE...😃
Maybe An Post should accept them as payment for TV licence 😏
Amazingly, its not early days.
We've had a recycling scheme in place for the last number of decades that a significant portion of the community engaged with on a regular basis.
It was straightforward.
Now it needed enhancing and improving. For example there were nowhere near enough public recycling bins, there were vast amounts of people who, for one reason or another, never had access to a recycling bin at their place of residence and many many workplaces and educational institutions didn't have recycling bins available.
One could also argue that we weren't able to properly count the amount of items that were being returned versus being purchased.
One could argue that the scheme didn't place enough onus on the producers of items to reduce or indeed come up with some innovative ways to reuse containers etc.
I would argue that the new scheme, solves none of the above problems and in fact creates many more.
The new scheme needs 90 percent of the public to engage but there appear to be whole swathes of use cases where higher than ten percent of the population cannot or will not engage.
The scheme increases drastically the number of car journeys required to recycle, makes engagement for the elderly, disabled or remote much more difficult, results in increased cost of bin lifts and the products themselves and ultimately for those that do and have engaged not worked all of the time for one reason or another.
The fact that they don't seem too keen to either release figures that make any sense or put any pressure on producers to change is also damning (they are the producers)
The 'solution' to any issues will be to increase the deposit fee, and people will rightly decide to buy less, which is a good thing. But call a tax a tax.
So stop with the apologies for what's going on here or standing up for big business. Look at the obvious.
I spotted a lad on the platforms in Connolly going through the bins. Had a massive black bags of cans. Definitely cans and bottles that otherwise would be going to landfill. Trains also had loads of discarded bottles and cans, with so many people travelling for gigs around the city, and general bank holiday stuff.
No it doesn't.
It outlines manual returns for retailers.
Charities are not retailers.
You made it up. Admit it.
No not exactly curbside I'd expect a collection point like for example a local GAA club.
But as I said it's not clear yet, early days.
Yes it is.
Open the pdf and scroll down to collections.
some sort of bag them and collected solution will emerge.
Like curbside collection of recyclables? What an innovative idea 😆 This thread is getting surreal at times.
some other way will be found.
It should happen. However we've just finished the transition period and CEO Foleyo isnt for turning on anything in his media outings. In fact he's doubling down, telling us not to ruin the Re-Turn buzz and only use RVMs during the week like good little boys and girls.
It's covered here how manual returns work, sorry it's in pdf.
No it isn't.
So again where would a charity go and who would process their manual returns?
They're probably the one thing that are more difficult and energy intensive to recycle than plastic bottles, and you end up with a worse end product. Very few recycling facilities have the equipment to recycle them. Most of them end up in landfill globally.
It's not shown on the prices online and it has been the same price for weeks so I assume no.
Like I said, give them a chance.
It's only a pilot this weekend.
The volunteers from your local club aren't going to go to Mr Price where they don't take anything.
They won't be welcome with hundreds of cans at the supermarket.
Most likely some sort of bag them and collected solution will emerge.
Or I could be wrong and some other way will be found.
Every business in Ireland that signed up to manual returns, as to avoid buying a machine, don't take manual returns. It was pure avoidance , to sign up, and get out of having to get a machine in. Mr Price has it on there website, every store will take manual returns, none of them do. I tried, they hadn't a clue what I was on about.
Were you charged a deposit ?
If you think about it nobody wants charity people descending on an RVM with hundreds of containers.
It wouldn't suit the retailer, the customers or the volunteers themselves.
Charity collections are only being piloted at Bloom this weekend.
Give them a chance.

Went to a takeaway today. Bought 2 meals that came with a can of coke and 7up.
Cans were from Poland, not Ireland.
An average Tetra Pak® carton is made of about 70% paperboard, 25% plastic and 5% aluminium
Seems better than 100% plastic to me
What do you think Tetra Paks are made from?
Hopefully soon. I've stopped buying plastic bottles of orange juice and switched to tetra pak instead. Tastes the same.
If government were serious about recycling they would ban the sale of milk in plastic cartons immediately. There's no reason for milk to be in plastic containers, when tetra pak is widely available.
Does Capri Sun escape the deposit ?
How long we before we see Tetra Pal Coca Cola, Fanta, Pepsi etc
They were presented with several articles from Holland who are 3 years into this scam stating the exact same problems we are having now.
It was dismissed as moaning.
The other threads were shut down and a V2 created by mods. This one seems to be ignored even though it was flagged on the helpdesk thread as being impacted multiple times.
