whats people positions on buying a car when the seller doesn't have the logbook?
went to look at a nice car yesterday from Facebook marketplace, and all in good condition top spec UK import.
checked the car all looked good took it for a test drive all good.
so decided to pull the trigger and then he hits me with "well the thing is i don't have the log book yet but i can meet you on Saturday with it" waiting for it to arrive in the post had screenshot saying it was sent on the 30th of April
I was a bit thrown back really thinking who puts a car up for sale when they don't have the log book?
I was hesitant to pay fully thinking how do i know this guy doesn't actually own the car or will report it stolen etc. though he did have two keys etc. tax out since last Tuesday
so after a bit of back and forth it was agreed that i would give him a deposit and he would ring me on Saturday (he couldn't meet today (Friday) as has a wedding) to meet and complete the logbook and payment.
I'm unsure if I'm about to be scammed or if is this common enough.
his fb page has been there since 2011 and its still up and active and hasn't blocked me or anything. he seemed honest but
should i have taken his word upfront and just went ahead and purchased or was i right to wait for the log book first?
guess i will find out tomorrow if I'm down a couple hundred or not
Not a scam. They would have bought the car very recently to sell for profit and are waiting for the logbook to arrive. I’ve done this multiple times and no one ever questioned it. Most people leave a deposit and come back with the full cash amount a few days later anyway.
oh that's a relief anyway i haven't bought a car in over 10 years so wasn't sure really thanks put my mid at ease.
I wouldn't have gave him anything until logbook was in my hand but he could genuine but that's just me.
Do they?

I bought my 9-5, 5 years ago for €5,500. It had 130k km on it.
Whilst I'd very much like that car to be worth €11k+, cos that'd imply my own one is worth more than I thought, for some reason I don't think it is worth that much.
They are nice for sure and something of a collectors item.... but is there any truth in the story, that last model of 9-5 was kinda rushed into production and is not quite upto Saab build quality?
No service history mentioned either. No way is that car worth what he's asking for it.
Asking price is absolutely barking mad, he will be doing well to get half that
No Kenneth, just no!

Maybe a large bag of cocaine inside?
Surely an extra zero added by accident. Even at that it'd be 400 over priced!
A glue sniffer.
Did those yokes even cost 6000 punts, from brand new in 1996?
Drugs are one hell of a drug.
CVRT out since December 2022 too. What a ball of shíté!
Must have meant 600
Decisions, decisions………🤣

Maybe I'm out of touch, but €35k!?
In 1989 they were around 7400
"Unmodified Irish car"
(Imported from uk)
"2 owners since new"
(3 owners since it was imported, don't know how many before that)
No NCT in 14 years....bargain at 35k.
Do you genuinely think he may have put an extra zero in by accident?
That surely can't be what he expects to get for a 25 year old nissan 200??
Its 34 years old!
No,I don't think it's a typo.
This is the dreamers thread!
Deffo not a typo as due to age and the market today. It is worth more than 3.5k but no where near 35k though.
Not sure if posted previously, nice car but…

A pet hate of my is advertisers who knowingly put miles in as km in the ad
Huge money for one of those! I had the 2.0 turbo version for a few years and it was a lovely car. I would want for it to be all original though. The after market stereo looks terrible. Still wouldn't pay that money anyway but they might make a nice classic at some point. Right now it's just an old Volvo with a €900 PA motor tax bill and sub 30mpg and massive repair costs if anything goes awry, especially with the adjustable suspension.

€1294 according to the ad.
Yikes!
Cant believe the 6k pugeot van is still there!
Nobody is dumb enough to pay that much for that car
