Fcuk sake. Let you do all the mullocking then give them to cash. Why would you bother at all.
That idea of a separate bin was discussed before.
You'd need another bin delivered to every house.
Also all the bin trucks would have to be adapted to ensure separation.
The cost of all that would land with the customer.
Then you have the problem that such a system would only be available to people with bin contracts.
They'd be processed as manual returns IE. counted.
Probably use the same trucks that are collecting from shops.

It's fairly obvious really.
If you think the charity is worth supporting you give them the cash if you don't you hold on to it for yourself.
A bit like the loose change in your pocket on a flag day.

I like to get coke from the Polish shops because they actually have suger and not the chemical shite that most soft drinks turned into after the sugar tax.
Will those cans be gone now under threat of prosecution?
I don't mind not getting the money back if I can have a decent soft drink every so often.
If they import them properly - register the barcode, put a logo sticker on (they already legally must put stickers with the ingredients, allergens etc in English but rarely if ever do that) - they're still legal.
From today all cans on the market will have to have Re-turn logo + barcode registered to DRS.
A deposit will have to be charged.
If the importer complies they can continue to be sold.

Had an issue in Supervalu recently where I was trying to use a voucher that was over 30 days old. Automatic till told me the voucher had already been used. Till assistant then did everything he could to embarass me when I asked for assistance. Eventually he gave me the cash amount from another till.
So from now, drinks cans and plastic bottles have to have the ireland re turn logo on them.
So that prevents businesses shopping around for the best deal on those products.
But this doesn't apply to glass bottles, glass jars, food cans etc so businesses can still do that for those products.
It's not like we are a population of 60 million, the cost of having 'special' labels for special case 4million ish population Ireland must be enormous.

The whole point of getting them from the Polish shops is that the producers were not producing the non chemical stuff for the Irish market. There was nowhere else to get them.
Will there be a reduction now in choice as other (maybe smaller) producers decide its not worth creating separate batches of packaging for the Irish market - I'm thinking of the obscure fizzy drinks you'd see in some health food shops.
I didn't know they were going to ban all other non return cans. I thought you just wouldn't get money back for them.
Selling them without complaint labels has been illegal for decades - contact details, ingredients, allergen data etc. The re-turn logo is just another thing that they need to have.
That most places completely ignored the law before isn't legally relevant.
Everything can be done via sticker; you don't need to actually make Ireland specific packaging.
Long before it appeared on the papers I quoted here before not to use at the weekends was an issue from the start.
After the last few gaa matches in thurles a few young lads are making their way into the grounds toward the end of matches with black bins bags to collect . At least someone else is benefiting apart from return
