Ross Byrne is an adequate out-half but Leinster need more than that if they are to win another European Cup. The schools system is just not producing any stand-out talents. Even going back through the last 10 years u20's I don't recall any. Prendergast was poor in the WC and hasn't impressed me at all since. Leister should have looked for an NIQ a year or 2 ago
I assume, there's a leadership group, the kicker says it's within range or it's not, the leadership group decide on taking the points or kicking to touch
o'shaughnessy looked quite good for the 18s i thought and the austrian lad seems to have a good reputation.
Who ever it was it smacks of arrogance, fair enough the first or 2nd time but after that you get the scoreboard ticking over.
It's cup final rugby, win it any way possible is all that counts & take the gimmes when the arise
I think Toulouse kicked every penalty that was in range. There's a lesson there.
Leinster kicked a load of penalties first time out vs La Rochelle and lost. Then they went for tries and lost. Maybe each game is its own thing and there are more factors at play than a simple statement like that.
I get that but when you kick to the corner and get turned over, over & over again, maybe the right option is to take your points.
As I say, Toulouse were very comfortable in taking their kick at goals.
If thats the case the ‘coaches’ have to consider their positions surely?
I have no doubt that if Leinster opted to kick for the posts on a number of penalty occasions, that game would've been over at 80mins and they'd be European Champions.
I would go so far as to suggest that if they nudged ahead on the scoreboard by a few points they would pushed on and possibly run in a few tries.
there’ll be just as many sad Leinster fans when the bulls have their way with them in loftus
Mod: Off topic and goading.
You can respect your rivals without necessarily having to support them. I've huge respect for Leinster and what they've achieved and while I wasn't cheering for Toulouse on Saturday I wasn't cheering for Leinster either.
Ah maybe despise is a tad strong but sport thrives on seeing your nearest rivals getting a dressing down. Universal law
Yep.
While disappointed by Saturday's result, I did derive some pleasure from seeing the URC's top seed being knocked out in the round of 16 while an unseeded URC team made all the way to the final, knocking out the then holders on the way.
It's the little things ...
and yet both teams end up with the same result in Europe
While one of those is in pole position to defend the URC
I don't see anything wrong with that.
It's these guys actively supporting foreign teams over an Irish team that concern me. The reason they concern me is that they are dragging the game down. They are like soccer or gaa fans, the Liverpool and united types, the neighbouring counties in gaa. They are an embarrassment.
I agree in principle but we were not good in the 2022 champions cup final and we almost won it off the back of taking every kick.
In big games you need to be able to assess the type of game you're in and how you're playing in real time and make adjustments as necessary.
It should have been recognised that the attack wasn't firing on Saturday and adjust accordingly but they didn't. A 5 or 6 point lead would have been a big lead in the context of that game. You can't always bury teams with tries.
They have some great players but they've no natural leaders in that team. That's where sexton is sorely missed. They'd have won the last 2 finals with him imo.
But surely - even for the pupils of a remedial Primary School class in Munster - a result that reads P 5 W1 D1 L3 isn't "the same" as a result that reads P7 W6 L1?
Because if it is, then the maths syllabus must have gone to the dogs since I graduated from hedge school.
Why would a non leinster provincial fan support leinster when their fans have consistently enough thrown it back in peoples faces. How arrogant can you be that you expect other fans to support you
Congratulations on your semi final trophy both teams lost. That's that
I don't think any Leinster fans expect support tbqh, but the gleeful gloating following the loss is a particularly bad look IMO and is likely to be something that I think will stick in the memory of plenty of Leinster fans.
EDIT: To clarify, not accusing all rival fans of this, there have been plenty of classy or typically neutral posts, but there have also been plenty of what I highlighted.
What needed to be changed? Mistakes is what the problem was, how do you change that? They had lots of opportunities in both halves to win the game but for mistakes.
Some Leinster fans have been very public of demanding the support and have been gloating for years. Let it stick i very much doubt it will change the attitude of some leinster fans
Go look through the munster thread for the modest and togetherness of leinster fans
I literally don't understand a good chunk of what you're trying to say here.
Its okay to be neutral. Shouting for a foreign team against an Irish one is not. Unless you live there or have a connection to the area obviously.
Some leinster fans have been every bit as obnoxious in success as the comments your highlighting
I don't think they have - and I think if you were challenged to produce some, you'd struggle to come up with them. But I could easily pull together 20-30+ nasty, ugly, goading, incendiary comments from the weekend just gone by.
I didnt shout against leinster very much neutral also.
But i completely understand fans who are anyone but leinster because
Newsflash: some Leinster fans are obnoxious, some Munster fans are obnoxious. It's mostly immature fans though. Most Leinster fans and most Munster fans are rugby fans. They will want to see any Irish team do well as long as it is not at the expense of their team.
The juvenile sniping gets a disproportionate airing because it is amplified on social media.
