It has decent bones. But it needs a lot of work. I think it needs a lot more than people are suggest about. Basically a full internal renovation, not just kitchens and bathrooms. It looks well looked after, and was probably a "high spec" when it was installed. But hasn't been touched since the 70s and would be considered cheap not in general.
The garden is the easiest, cheapest fix.
I think it would be a great AirBnB property. May need to add and extension to get all facilities in, but imagine running that house on solar with minimal stuff in it. Live as many did years ago and survived without modern facilities
I wouldn't fancy being isolated and off the grid in Longford … 😬
You would be surprised how relaxing it is to get away from the busy world
I'm not doubting that, but Longford is a rough spot.
Love this place.
No pictures of any bedrooms or bathrooms, nor a floor plan.
For such a unique design, you think they'd make a bit more of an effort with the advertising.
It does look lovely though, and a fabulous setting.
No doubt Maggie will be along shortly to tell us all it's a great investment and commutable to dublin and sure didn't she start off in the same type of house all by herself etc. etc. A young couple would be foolish not to buy it.
The old garda station in dalkey, auction so cash buyers only, youd need a lot of money to get this right, but if you got it for under 1m and spent another 1m on it you are probably quids in given the proximity to the village (town if you are local 😁) and size / outside space

I'd be terrified of what I might find lurking behind all that wood.
I'd say one sniff of the place as you walk in the door would give you a good idea!
The other half of said Garda Station! And half the car park. For sale separately.

That was posted here a few weeks or months ago. May have even been posted twice before.
Thanks, I get a bit lost in this thread.
Wonder if that property has a right of way via the Garda side passage. Must check landdirect later.
Not impressed by the off street parking to front, unless it's a bigger space than looks in the images.
"Wonder if that property has a right of way via the Garda side passage. Must check landdirect later."
Nah, there's a there's an extension to the rear and side of the other one.
As for parking, plenty room for your Merc Paddy.
On another note I see Brighid Mc(Laugh)lin's Rockbrook Cottage still on the market after 2 price drops, featured on here before.
Obviously this needs a lot of updating but seems to have been well looked after. Seems like a lot of house for the money in the centre of town. You’d barely get a two bed terrace for that price in Fermoy

Advert has investment property for 'asylum accommodation' written all over it.
I know that house, I enquired about it and some other properties along the canal about 10 years ago. The Greenway used to pass in front of it, but they moved it to the other side when it was redone about 5 years ago.
You can drive a car or tractor right up to the front of it, and a heavy truck can stop and turn 300m away, if not right at the house (not sure if the banks would crumble).
As the Greenway goes the other side, the only people you'd meet on your side is the odd fisherman and maybe a farmer once a day.
The only thing I'd have an issue with is the small strip of land, would be ideal if the neighbouring farmer was prepared to sell 1,000 sqm or so, but that's not a given.
There's a bridge 1.6 km towards the Shannon and a dirt road 300m away, or in the other direction there's a bridge 500m away that will bring you over to the paved Greenway side. The side that you are on can get a bit wet and muddy.
Longford is under 30mins away by casual cycle.
Killashee is less than 10 mins by bike, has two pubs. One is owned by relatives of Manchan Magan, the TV/Author fella.
If you look at the older Street View of the pub, back in 2011 it had a small shop and a petrol pump, both now gone, and a sign of where places like this are going.

Who's Maggie?
No harm done. You always find good stuff for this thread. I don't remember this particular one, so going to have a look now.
That annoying wan from cheap Irish homes, seems to think everyone should be delighted to live in run down properties in the middle of nowhere🙄
Maggie Molloy, she of Cheap Irish Houses - she has an Instagram with that name but has also done a tv programme where herself and another fella go look at some cheap houses for house hunters with the idea that they can buy cheap and do them up.
Ah, I've never watched that!
I've seen some bad renders of "potential" houses on Daft before, but this one is pretty…special:

If the stools that are higher than the kitchen island, the PS1-era-textured pizza, or the random foliage embedded in the front soffit don't do it for you, the terrifying demon child haunting the kitchen definitely will.
Omfg got a good laugh out of that.. Are the nuclear family outside due to fear of demon child?
That is very reminiscent of my very first attempts at 3D rendering some 20 years ago! (Well actually its better, I wasn't very good at it, but I would not have let those chairs loose even then!)
That has given me a good laugh, which I needed. 🤣 They are all funny but I'm preserving this particular one, because it cracked me up altogether. 🤣
Is the house actually two story? With the top half at canal level and the ground floor opening on to field behind.
If so, I explored it about 40 years ago. It was abandoned then, so I would be surprised it is still standing now.
