Committee on Standards in Public Life coincidentally sent letters to all the parties early this morning urging a civil and respectful election campaign.
Has to be an election. Apparently, David Cameron is cutting his trip to Albania short to be there.
And here we are once again staring at a sky news live feed of a door…… and sometimes a cat
Larry's alright. Leave him alone.
Does Mad Nads still have people who will talk to her and give her some info?
Why on earth is she tweeting that then if she doesn't know?
And Shapps trip to Lithuania. BBC reporting all ministers have cleared their diaries and there is reportedly a stage being set up for the Tories in the Excel centre for a gig at 8pm.
My favourite tweet so far is someone reporting that "most MPs now believed it is a general election. Mostly based on the fact that anything else at this stage would look stupid"
Is Sky just being dramatic, or is there a presser due?
Most of the UK media is calling it now, election on July 4th. All of them would look stupid if it was something else. It won't be a press conference afaik, traditionally it's the lectern outside 10, short statement, mic drop, walk off.
It looks almost certain now. Complete blackout from the Tories towards media and civil service being reported. Outside of the Queen dying it's being said this only happens when an election is to be called (or a resignation)
All rumours point to a 5pm presser outside no.10 and a July 4th election. Ironically the anniversary of one of the worst defeats in British history 🤣
Sky saying its the 4th of July.
Sunak could be kicked out as Tory leader by then…
He'll be on to his 6th PM shortly.
Elizabeth II only had 15, and she reigned for 70 years…………
I doubt it. Sir Graham Brady has huge discretion on something that is an internal Conservative matter and would just ignore the letters even if the threshold was reached today. And not really possible to have such an election as MPs will be in their own constituencies campaigning soon rather than at WM.
The issue is his dad was a financial genius and not strongly involved in politics. Reece-Mogg junior is the very definition of inherited talentless wealth. An embarrassment to his dad I would say.
Are you sure about that?
He was one of the original disaster capitalists. Not someone I would afford any admiration or respect to.
Yes and he was good at it, unlike his cretin son. His dad was a hateful opportunist but he at least did it well.
Seen quite a few brexity types completely nonplussed as to why he would call an election now when they are 20 points behind in the polls……. they are that divorced from reality
His son is just as good as being a cretin MP and his father was a cretin economist.
Mogg is many things but he certainly didn't fail in his ambitions as an MP.
Protest votes don't really work in a FPtP system
This useless excuse for a PM can't even find a sunny day in London in May to make an announcement.
Not saying there'd be mass loss of seats for Labour because unfortunately that would be fanciful but the mobilisation of the Muslim (and anti Labour's position on Gaza generally) vote in certain constituencies could see Labour MPs lose their seats, and even politicians like Jess Phillips have acknowledged it.
Things can only get better 🤣
Am I the only one thinking that it must be killing the 3 boyos outside the Oireachtas that Sunak decided to go for a general election. This was their day to show the British media how good they are.
Not really they got all morning out of it before the rumours started spreading around lunchtime and Israel made it a way bigger thing globally by recalling their ambassador.
It's not the 1980s. We don't care with the UK thinks that much of us anymore - especially their media.
You'd think that wouldn't you. I can guarantee you that its playing on the back of their minds that they won't get an interview on tonight's Newsnight or 10 O'Clock news, they will just have to do with Newsline and the Nolan Show.
With an election in a fortnight and a general election in a years time the main audience that they care about is right here. Beyond that I'm sure there are plenty of international media outlets they could speak to if that is in fact their desire. The world's a lot bigger than the UK.
I think yours is the only one whos mind its playing in tbh….
The only thing playing on my my mind is why did he not announce the election in the HoC out of the rain?
What a plonker to ruin his expensive suit in the downpour. Surely, someone could have put up some kind of umbrella.
He'll just claim for the dry cleaning expense.
