Firearms Certificate Waiting Times Survey

Howdy folks,

The goal of this is to get a broader picture of the state of firearms licencing in Ireland, in particular the rather disparate waiting times between districts.

Below is a link to the survey, completely anonymous, no personal details like emails or contact numbers are asked for.

As the results come in I'll stick up statistics drawn from them(ie best county for licencing, average times for renewals by county, etc).

Please feel free to share amongst licence holders, on social media shooting groups, etc. The more responses the better the statistics will be! 😁

EDIT - based on some good feedback the survey has been slightly tweaked to add substitutions, and also changed to a Google Form to facilitate more questions(and responses) than surveymonkey allows. Anyone who already answered I've imported your answers already so no need to re-do the survey 😁

Google Forms will show your gmail address when you load the form, if you are logged into your Google account, but that is solely to save your progress if you leave and return, it is not recorded in the survey.

No training - as in "She has no specific training on/in FO job" ?

It's not the first time and it won't be the last when someone is thrown into a job/position they don’t have the knowledge/experience and have to learn on the spot/job.

On a side note, there is nothing stopping you from politely asking for an update via txt/email/phone call.

End of day you’re only asking if there are any issues/more info required/etc/etc regarding your application.

Unless the gun is physically incapable by design of taking more than five rounds and has a detachable mag.Its default capacity should be ten on everyones application/renewal.

Submitted my .22 bolt action rifle application on the 27 th of may and my FO wants me to limit my magazine to 5 rounds,I messaged her and update her as to the commissioner's guidelines and a contact who was in the know i have meet all safety recommendations including monitored alarm it’s my 6th gun range membership etc

To be fair to the FO in Kerry he said that they are stretched and it should have been issued sooner. Just glad to have it sorted!

Just on the above. I should have posted sooner I got sorted have my rifle as the others here say don't be afraid to stand up for yourselves we are not breaking any laws by questioning a super as to why he doesn't want to follow them. Know ur rights study up on the gun laws a little and the tables will tilt in ur favour.

SO, grant letter for daughters gun arrived dated 29th May.

Moved into a newbuild beside the original ùfarmhouse, so eircode was now different.

Was afraid they'd be lost or something, but turned up today in post today.

That's not a valid reason for the Superintendent to refuse. The Superintendent is as amenable to the law as the rest of us. My approach would be to speak with the Superintendent and advise that the reason given (which you must receive in writing) is not valid, that failure to resolve at this stage will result in an appeal in the District court. It clearly indicates that this individual has insufficient training and/or education in firearms. Also, that you'll be seeking court costs and expenses from both the AGS and the Superintendent personally, as he is acting ultra vires in the matter of the refusal.

The only hope you have is if you pay the €80. Show the RFD the letter and receipt together. But strictly speaking they may ask you to bring the actual FAC with you. As the letter means nothing as you may never pay the €80.

The DoJ accepted this recently when I was importing a Glock 44.

Success at last. 11 weeks after first contact and with in excess of 20 calls to station, leaving my details on multiple occasions, including times when Sgt was on duty, and looking for a callback, after 3 calls to station today, I made contact with the Sgt, notwithstanding that my authorisation(still under Firearms Act) expired over 3 weeks ago. The answer from the Sgt was I never heard of you, got no messages regarding you and IF i received an email from District Office I must have passed it on to named garda (same one that I had all the same trouble with last year) and I will check with him next week and let you know. My parting comment was to let them know that I look forward to later when my FAC's fall due.

Nope, generally best to put the maximum capacity allowed by law, since you may want to change out your bottom metal at some point for AICS mags and in that case you would have a capacity of 10.
If you have it as 10 from the start no need to change your licence, if you had a capacity of 5 you would need to.

I never changed my mag capacity from the 22 form to the 223 form and left 10 on it. Should have inputted 5?
