Just been informed by my good friend April Firth (she knows the lads through friends) that their show is finishing up on Friday with a last show with many guests taking part. She tells me you'd be a fool to miss it.

It's expected to be confirmed after 12pm today but April said I should tell you guys all first for the day that's in it.

We're not all delighted!! I'll admit I was apprehensive when they started, but I really enjoyed the show as it went on. Fridays in particular were great. Best mainstream radio drive time show in a long long time.

With the recent exits, there must be some sort of reform in RTE/2FM. With RTE under pressure on the licensee fee and value for money, any reasonable review of RTE would say 2FM is not core for RTE future. There are lots of contempary music/chatter providers out there now. When 2FM was created donkeys ago a music radio channel was deemed public broadcasting and hence use the license fee funds for 2FM.

In any case the 2 johnnies have plenty going on, in fairness I dont know where they got personal time having to be creative for x2 podcasts a week, on air 5 days a week, an odd TV show and 2 massive annual gigs

the 2johnnies said before that the podcast revenue is way more than the 2fm salary. I'd say 2fm were pushing them to take a paycut and they said f that.

They actually don't need to be Dublin to do their show, they're more nationwide than rte.

Tv license inspectors say their job has become impossible so I can imagine budgets getting slashed, won't be surprised if 2fm gets the chop.

I hadn't listened to it in decades until the two lads arrived, I'll be following them out the gap.

My better half is a KK cat and Jasus the goin over the 2 lads used to give KK was unreal banter!

Not sure if this was already mentioned but their show had become the most listened to program on 2fm, the first time since the pre Gerry Ryan show 1988 days that 9am wasn't the biggest slot on the station.

The "DJ" is very much dead on Irish radio now, and the term isn't even used anymore - it's "presenter" now. And you're right, TodayFM is no better these days.

their replacements will probably be some of the unknown weekend cover presenters.

2FM have realised that having social media "big names" makes no difference to the listenership figures. so any rising star will be given a prime weekday slot.

2FM is a glorified spotify playlist of songs now anyway, just like Today FM and other it doesn't matter who "jocks" them.

The "last DJ" left 2FM a long time ago.

I said it in Doireanns thread but people were convinced she was leaving of her own accord. RTE are cleaning house now worse than Goodfellas after the Lufthansa heist. The government can't and won't give them more money after all the carry on as their terrified of public backlash and they've told RTE it's sink or swim time.

Doireann, Operation Transformation, the two jonnies theres a lot of money across those. Dancing with the stars their desperate get rid of, only "saved it at the last minute" cause it was doing a Glenroe and the viewership was too high, their chomping at the bit to get rid.

It was a long time ago now. Marty left RTÉ circa 1989 after being offered big bucks at Century Radio, Ireland's first national commercial station. Century famously ended up being short-lived and Marty found himself out of a job. Went back to RTÉ but was very much down the pecking order.

EDIT: no need for the circa, looked it up and the announcement that Marty was going to Century was made on the eve of St Patrick's Day 1989.

Tubbs coming back on air after last June would have been suicidal for RTE. Bringing him back now is similar. Things haven’t changed much and it’s just digging up all the old stuff again that has started to die down. Tubbs is the poster boy for the messed up state of RTE. That hasn’t changed.
