Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
The Script playing the 3Arena on 15th November. Tickets on sale on Friday.
Album presale (no purchase necessary - sign up here https://thescript.tmstor.es/splash/9211 ) from Wednesday.
Soda Blonde and Rachael Lavelle among others playing gigs in Dublin as part of Musictown from 19th to 21st July
Is there a presale for James?
I see Jason Isbell and band are playing UK in November. Wonder is there any chance they'd play here?
I’d love that. Never seen him play. Recently enjoyed his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon also, wasn’t expecting his appearance.
Yeah would be great if they did!
Theo Von announced for the Marquee on 9th June. Seems very late in the day to be announcing it with just over 2.5 weeks to it. His ticket prices for 3Arena the night before seem mad.
€70 for 3 arena. Probably about right for big name is comedian these days
From 71.25 looks like. There's seats at 91.25, 105.25, platinum at 130. There's non platinum tickets at 135.25 all excluding fees. Doesn't look to be sold out yet but guess 10k plus is very good for a comedian. Whether there would be demand of 5k to see him in Cork at short notice is another thing though.
Lindsey Stirling in the Helix, Saturday November 2nd.
Latm when fully seated is about 2500 or so. He is very popular these days. So a last minute Sunday in cork priced right might do the business
Aiken has made a right mess of the Marquee this year, alot of poorly selling shows.
Top tier isnt open in the 3Arena, so capacity is only ~6k.
Alot of unsold tickets too so prob only sold 5k.
I personally think it's one of the worst if not worst line ups in recent years but know other gigs like Iveagh, Trinity etc not selling great either. Could be cost of living and/or people going to Bruce, Coldplay, Taylor Swift etc and not going to as many other gigs. Looks like only Van Morrison, Bryan Adams,NeYo and Christy Moore have sold out so far. Maybe people will buy tickets over next few weeks too.
Wow. Am surprised at that cost given the complete absence of any production costs. Recent and upcoming Galway gigs by comedians who could sell out the 3 Arena - Frankie Boyle €35, Jim Jefferies €48, Dylan Moran €25. Seems that some comedians also gouging, but as with music acts, unless we stop buying they’re going to keep charging.
doing an arena show automatically adds €10-15 to concert price over theatre show. theo von is enormously popular so his show fee reflects that. Demand > supply
How much does it cost to rent the 3Arena, over ten times that of a theatre ??
depends on the configuration, but for both the main promoters in ireland who operate theatres here, Olympia and vicar. Going from their own venues to renting out 3 arena does add enormous costs per price and could easily add €10-€15 add on between venue rental cost, security costs, production costs required for arena and most importantly the fee guarantee required by the act. The fee required by an artist going from theatre to 3 arena per ticket is always higher. They now have to pay for an arena production, tons more staff, tour buses etc. ie they might require €15k for theatre show for 1,500 but require €200/250k for arena show. so an artist or comedian playing olympia could be €40, but when they jump up next time to 3 arena could very easily be €60 simply to reflect the increase in arena and associated costs including far higher guarantee.
Yeah, that’s expected but I’m amazed that I can see very high quality comics on this island drastically cheaper than a pretty poor American one. A good seat at Frankie Boyle is €35 cheaper than the VERY cheapest Theo Volt seats. Jim Jefferies €22 and Dylan Moran €45. Some Theo Volt seats are €135 with Dylan at €25 so I could be spending €110 more to see a far inferior artist.
I’m just surprised as I don’t really care about comedy and haven’t been in years but I’d never have expected those prices for one guy waffling for 60/70 mins.
.
Theo von is €40 for the marquee
For the cheap seats. €55 for the better ones. More expensive than any of the aforementioned acts but maybe he’s a bigger draw at the moment.
Carpets
Saw her at EP a few years ago was really good.
new/extra shows announced
Picked up a decent ticket there for 60ish, sadly the prime selections are all VIP >€300.
Ron Sexsmith playing Whelans on Wednesday 6th November. https://x.com/mcd_productions/status/1793205225915928704?t=D3lgAdvevX-ey7K7YBip2A&s=19
Is there a presale so for her gig yeah? Guess VIP might involve meet and greet and other extras. Still can't get over the cost of some tickets for gigs. It's not a good trend.
Ya code is meant to be FALLDUALITY but I never entered it and progressed to checkout without. All seats appear to be available for selection btw and you can select your own.
I followed link to Helix ticket site through Songkick.
That Antlers/Okkervil River one could be a very pleasant evening indeed
Yep, that’s a great one and a surprisingly small venue for two impressive acts. Antlers always great but how can they make that pay?
I thought it seemed incredibly small too, but I've long given up on thinking I understand popularity and demand 🤣
