I am a Cork fan and was very wary of Tippeary yesterday (as were most Cork fans) travelling to Thurles yesterday.
Tippeary are a great hurling county with a great history and I would say there is a great respect between Cork and tippeary. this respect was shown by the readiness the cork team came and how pumped up they were.
The mood was set for a cracker but unfortunately it was no to be, I have no doubt Tipp will be back and I hope it will be sooner rather than later.
Well someone has to make a decision because things cannot remain the same. I cannot offhand think of one positive that has emerged from the senior county set up in the last several years and that includes the appalling support the team is getting which I've been highlighting for years. There's no quick or painless solution here and feathers in the county board will also need to be ruffled.
not sure on management …players def yes …..who would want tipp job knowing there’s a big rebuilding job knowing country board keep changing management team
I agree a big rebuilding job has to be undertaken but that has to include rebuidin the management and backroom team .
we had the same clamour for Cahill and mikey bevans 2 years ago …big rebuilding job to do …chopping and changing managers ain’t the answer when we don’t have the players …..
Well if we're leaving the current backroom team there because " but who do we get to replace them !" then we're at nothing. Bonner was shafted, and shafted he was , for a lot less. A basic ability for any backroom team is to have the squad passionate, strong and raring to go and die with their boots on, none of that on display for a long time now. I actually believe the management team should be gone before the Clare match.
Wille Maher, Tommy Dunne, who to get is a good question but Tipp big enough county to do it, Cahill has had 2 years, hes way off the pace (leaving Barrett on yesterday injured was a disaster)
I have to be honest here in my almost 40 years alive i'd say this is the worst Tipp team in my lifetime.
For a Tipp team to allow Cork to do that to them in Thurles is unprecedented. Where ye go from here i don't know, but i do know that hurling needs a strong Tipperary.
Maybe Liam Sheedy should come back and try and get something going again. For an outsider looking in it seems that Tipperary's famed hurling spirit is broken.
who now so …..hurlers ain’t tgeee simple as ….can’t go changing manager every 5 minutes
The way the previous S&C team were treated, who had been with Cahill from minor , U-20, and Waterford sums up this management team, no class and no plan of any kind in my opinion After working with them for that length of time to cut them loose was very disappointing.
Feel sorry for Tipp. They are great hurling people and are one of my favourite teams outside of Cork. Today wasn't yer day but ye will come again and won't be long before yous put one over us in Munster again. I was generally afraid today, I thought Tipp would do us over and knock us out but was surprised with Tipps performance on the day.
As bad as it gets.
Total failure of management in terms of tactics, preparation, S&C, substitutions (Barrett left on after a clear injury leading directly to a goal).
Total failure of the players to yet again show any type of pride, workrate, effort, passion. The amount of players that gave up after the 2nd Cork goal was shameful. Ronan Maher and Noel McGrath the only two who can't be criticised on this front.
Don't want to absolve the players too much as the minimum expectation is you fight for the shirt even if you don't have the ability. I expect it's easier to keep the head when you have some faith in the gameplan, that it can get you back into the game. Clare went 7 points down against this Cork team in the second half and didn't capitulate, just knew they would get back into it if they kept plugging away. Limerick 8 down to this Cork team the same, albeit they coughed up the win in injury time.
I was sat in the stand wondering what absolute nonsense our approach was. Just mind boggling stuff.
I don't know what happened in between the Limerick game and Waterford game last year but something did. Did Cahill start getting too cute for his own good? Billy Nolan running to the half way line unopposed on about 15 occasions as we just sat back and let him decide where he wanted to put it, combined with total flatness from the players. That mixture of tactical stupidity and flatness/poor effort has been repeated in the games v Galway, Clare (league), Limerick and today.
Davy when he came into Waterford claimed he had a monumental job to pick up the players from where Cahill left them, that they were in an awful state. He was laughed at then but don't think anyone is laughing anymore. Something seriously rotten in that camp.
Don't know where we go from here. Hard to justify letting this go on for another year, especially after two historically bad performances up there with the worst the county has ever seen, just weeks apart. But who comes in? Willie Maher I suppose, either way, some truly dark days ahead.
Big hurling fan here, Cahill and his team have to go, its a million miles worse than where Bonnar was, very little to take from the game today. Let someone else rebuild the team. The Cahill gamble just hasn't paid off, he looks out of his depth, shouting and roaring with no game plan, in a era of sports science\motivation\planning etc it was just pathetic to watch I feel sorry for the Tipperary players this summer. They were led to the slaughter by Cahill.
TIs a long way back from that to being competitive again, Holy God
Cahill has to show that he can adjust his style of play. I'm not sure he's done that in his managerial career yet. It's all grand when his teams can run up the middle...all high energy and looks great. When he gets stopped ( against Limerick every single time ) or his players don't have the athletic ability to carry out that gameplan surely there has to be a plan 'B'
I disagree on all points. There's something fundamentally wrong with the senior set up and has been for a year. The players, average as they are, aren't even playing for him now. Not that it matters really who is in charge for the next few years.
The Tipperary support was criminally bad today. Poor form is not an excuse for not showing up and roaring on your team. A team that is struggling needs the support most.
I would be leaving Cahill there for at least another year. Throwing a new manager at the problem is not going to solve anything. We currently don't have the quality of players that we are used to.
a team not hurling well ..poor form and not expecting to win …..but still we knew a win would leave us in a decent position …it was cork ….sample stadium …good summer day ….are tipp supporters a bit like there team ….soft ….criminal to see a sea of red in Thurles today
I find the idea that support is laughable hilarious.
I say this having been at today's game, the Limerick game, the Galway and Waterford games last year, all of which were disasters. Can you blame people for tuning out?
The senior team has been a busted flush for the guts of a year. A mixture of poor management (Cahill is well exposed as to his worth at senior intercounty now) and average players means that Tipp aren't even competitive in games. That was Joe McDonagh stuff today.
It's not supporters we need but coaches.
Hopefully minors and 20s will show something this week. We are in the doldrums now for the rest of the decade at least.
God it's hard to know where the problems start and end today, and with the team in general... from my perspective our lads looked "slow and butty" compared to cork who were fast, tall and strong. Most of our match ups seemed the poorer relation in terms of physical physique when compared to their opposition. Why? Are the lads lifting too much and not doing enough cardio? Is this some attempt to address the increased physicality of Limerick the last few years? Good idea on paper perhaps, but in reality, if that has been the strategy, our lads are left with lead in their boots and second to most balls. So disappointing from a bunch of lads who, individually, are all capable of some fantastic hurling.
As for the poor fan turn out today, in our own stadium, it's hard to credit.
I agree the hurlers arent there, but there is surely better than that absolutely woeful effort today.
I dont understand how we can go down to Waterford 2 weeks ago and get hit with hammer blows of goals and yet keep at it and hurl quite well for the full 75 minutes and yet today we just down tools early on in the second half.
We looked completely gassed in that second half and were a tired looking defence for Connolly goal at end of first half. The teams energy levels seem all over the place.
the hurlers aren’t there …Cahill isn’t the problem …remember most tipp supporters were crying out for him to come back from Waterford ….tipp hurling is a long way from trophies ….harsh reality for supporters
I’m on the fence about forde, he’s a quality player, hes in a poor run of form but so is the team and I wouldn’t blame him. He is 30 but has 2 years in him atleast.
strongly disagree, Cahill is out of his depth we haven’t shown an ounce of progress in 2 years, I couldn’t tell ya what kind of hurling we play and I’d say Cahill couldn’t either.
I dont think Cahill is getting the best out of what he has. A team that 'downs tools' twice in 3 games is a team without good management. Besides the lack of pace ,the lack of fight is the real alarming thing. They showed some fight against Waterford . He ll have to get rid if alit I'd throw old stagers. Bonar,Ford, 2 McGraths, McCormack and a few more... they have to go now. Are ye telling me there aren't young fellas in Tipperary with hurling and a whole lot more gas than them? I don't believe it.
Senior club standard is so poor at the moment.
todays result and performance is a pretty accurate reflection of where tipp hurling is at ….the hurlers ain’t there and what are are mostly not good enough …Cahill and Bevans need to be given time no point throwing them out now after the big effort that went to get them
They did ok for the most unfit and fattest team we ever put out. Are they training for tug o' war or something? They would not come out of Leinster either. Did their best this year to look as bad as the footballers which is some going.
Very natural and understanding that that post appears.there needs to be a root and branch review of all areas of hurling in the county
Why do you need to "cop on" after posting that after a poor performance like todays
What else would you expect from a Zionist. They're absolute loopers
