Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

Cat-Mod: See post here regarding off-topic segues.
they were awful before and they are still awful. Even Virgin don't think his show is the best daytime show
You can now vote for Virgin Radio and their presenters in the radio awards of 2024: Chris Evans for Best Breakfast Show Jayne Middlemiss for Best Daytime Show Ricky Wilson for Best Drivetime Show Leigh Francis for Best Weekend Show And Virgin Radio for Station of the Year https://theversion.co/news-latest/radio-awards-uk-2024
scrolled down that list and didn't see 'best broadcaster in Ireland' up for any awards…surely a man with the experience, charisma, presenting chops of Ryan Tubridy would be a shoe in for all the awards up for grabs…
I mean, he's a senior hurler now…
I was sure he would be in the presenter of the year category 😏
Please someone tell me there is a radio equivalent of the Razzies awards…
The Radio Razzies
We all know Mr Barter Account's ratings would've skyrocketed if he'd managed to hold onto his job. It's also a nailed-on certainty that everybody working alongside him in RTE would've had their morale boosted simply by being in proximity to the great man. Perhaps they might take turns touching the hem of his robe?
BTW these fluctuations really only amount to radio station holding to what they have, you need to see either successive gains or losses over the next few JLNRs to actually see where everyone is. I always dislike how the radio stations highlight their gains though they made the same losses the time before, so really no gain and no loss.
Surprised about Callan. Was on the road the other morning during his slot and tuned into Radio1. This kind of filler radio wouldn't be my cup of tea but thought I should give him a listen to see how he stacks up against Tubs. Thought it was quite good, particularly liked his little joke about the price of a mop from Dyson costing hundreds of euro…."You'd need it to clean up what you'd vomit onto the floor after spending that amount of cash on a mop"
Then again I can see why some of the old Tubs luvies wouldn't want such mental images at 9am over their americano and scone. A bit too crass and smart arsey perhaps.
I wonder how many of Tubs's fans followed him to Q102?
I wonder if the radio stations can see the amount of listeners who are listening to their stations daily, like on YouTube, everyone can see how many viewers they have.
Tubridy's latest podcast has 545 views after 4 days on Youtube. (It is also on Spotify and iTunes so that might boost figures.) Web server logs might show the radio station views/listener figures via the web and apps. However, the celebrations of Tubridy's first quarter on Virgin Radio seem rather subdued.

Wasn't Dobbos wife's uncle Larry Gogan? Such a small world, mad that they both were in rte
Re Callan's JNLRS, those JNLR numbers for RTE radio 1 seems to recycle every year or two, check this out from February 2023, Tubs was down 13k to 331k, isn't that exactly what Callans result was yesterday? 🤔 https://m.independent.ie/news/ryan-tubridy-and-morning-ireland-among-biggest-losers-as-rte-radio-one-suffers-drop-in-listenership-across-all-flagship-shows/42334445.html
He's holding out for the Pulitzer prize next year. He might find it difficult though if Joe Duffy publishes his buke about the Dublin (Monaghan doesn't exist) bombings at the same time.
Afaik, these listening figures are just estimates, taken via a sample of the population.
Anyone know officially how they compile them?
@NIMAN Or CONCOCT the figures
Interesting article here which has been mentioned on other threads https://archive.ph/WLm3l
Just a survey.
Indeed, it looks like the Nine O'Clock shows slight bump after Tubridy's departure settled back to Callan getting what Tubridy's number at a much cheaper wage.
So it's all a guesstimate.
So true, the young don't listen to the radio. I have RTE 1 on most of the time. When they don't turn it off or to Spotify, they still don't listen.
I can't help feeling the figures comes from the same place our top banks got their figures from when they went to the Ministers for a bank bale out.
Because the radio station owners and programmers in this country are tone deaf to the listening needs of young people. For young people, mainstream pop/contemporary radio should complement Spotify. For example sourcing or hearing something exclusively on their favourite radio station first, then streaming it. Not enough new or exclusive mainstream music is being brought to the attention of young people via radio.
According to the radio stations, listeners just want Ed sheerin, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo on repeat, played every hour. Interspersed with the odd outing of a 'banger' like Brimful of Asha or Sounds of the Underground.
That'll do them. Plus we'll have more airtime dedicated to a cash machine than actual music.
Response to Niman:
Exactly, you are on the button "According to the radio stations" For example, in the Dublin area every mainstream pop station that has been highlighted in the JNLR's have market share figures that are nothing to write home about IMO. And for the ones that are "performing" it took a long time for them to get there.
I had a quick look at the jnlr 2023 audience study and it claims that the average 15-24yo listens to 111minutes of live radio per day.
I don't think it was even anywhere near that high for my generation let alone the current one. One actually has to wonder what quality of data is going into these surveys.
Must be the same company that gives the viewing figures for Fair City I would say. 550,000 every night would you believe, that's over 10% of the country watching any single episode, that's including children and the very elderly, if you discount the very young and the very old nearly half the population is inside every evening 7:30 or whatever watching Fair City it seems? My god, what magic they must be working there.
I don't know anyone who watches itz or anyone who's ever watched it other than for 5 minutes to take the piss out of it
Id say the chance of them using the likes of a Sky Box to properly verifiably calculate what was watched is zero.
Zero. Has anyone ever heard of a friend or relative who has ever taken part in a survey. They claim to survey 15,600 people annually in their homes.
Look at this, 13 years ago in 2011 when John Murray was hosting the 9am show , the listenership figure was also 330k https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-20172148.html
