That's a fine looking car, probably a safer bet than the 1.6 diesel, certainly a good asking price.
Thats a great deal, right there. Perfect example of Bangernomics, great find Hoodie 👍
Tell me again, do all of these have the hydropneumatic suspension, or just certain trim levels like exclusive?
Saw that C5 this morning. Lovely clean example. A bargain too.
All of the Mk1 and Mk2 (like this one) have hydropneumatic suspension. Such comfort!
The Mk3 (saloon type) had springs, and higher level models had hydropneumatic suspension.
Tempted to buy that C5 and hide it away. Cheap tax in 2037! Who knows how much a litre of petrol will cost then though…
And mandatory to be scrapped in 2046 😂
Although I don't think any of this is set in stone yet. To be on the safe side, I would buy a 2006 or older car if you want to keep it forever (as a classic car)
What’s the mandatory rule/proposal? That’s a new one on me!
I don't think it is set in stone, but there were talks of all cars with a combustion engine, made after 2006, will not get a new NCT after 2046, thus need to be scrapped by then.
They won't need one, if you have a 2007 car it becomes NCT exempt in 2047, 2008 in 2048 etc.
Also.. I don't think that proposal was every implemented
so they won’t need to be scrapped but can’t legally be driven on the public road until they are 40. So if it’s not a rolling exemption, some cars could be in limbo for a few years.
Lovely leather interior too!!!!
But also remember, a 38 year old car gets a 2 year NCT in 2046 and then goes rolling exempt. A 39 year old car could do the same and a 37.75yr old car could do the same. I really don't see these bans happening. How many 2007 cars will be around in 2047 for instance? At the moment there arent many 1984 cars around.
That’s a good point alright. As cars near the 40 year mark, the compliance isn’t great today.. I know a few that don’t even bother taxing them for €56, FFS.
It’s one of those things that would cost more to design, implement and train enforcement on than any benefit that would be seen from it. No civil servant or minister is planning for 20 years in the future anyway.

Nice family runaround for someone. Would meet the old Bangernomics €2k criteria to.
Well that ticks all the boxes, a good buy for someone.
Take the rear seats out and you could move a house with it! Well, almost…
New car bought. I'd say if you rocked up to Dundalk with €1300 cash, it would be yours.

MK1 Yaris are getting thin on the ground now.
What do you think of a 09 Volvo V70 needing a bit of work for €1100
https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/volvo-v70/36970742#
€1250 to tax.eek!
Looks like a smashing bargain. I would have two questions however.
Will it run on regular petrol?
And what kind of price was he quoted to sort out the central locking? (and does the car lock at all, at the moment ? )
Seems this guy bought this as a doer-upper, and is now abandoning the idea. Volvo's can be very expensive to repair.
By all means buy it and repair it, if you like repairing stuff and it costs almost nothing to do so.
But the general idea behind bangernomics is: you buy as is, warts and all. Don't spend any money on it, unless it is both essential to get it fixed and you knew about the problem and how much it would cost to fix before you bought it
Looks like my 2008 A6 is dead (ECU) so I’m looking for a replacement. Any recommendations? Hard requirements: auto, working AC. Doing 100km/day.
That's big mileage, will cost a fortune in fuel if you go with a combustion engine car. Maybe front load some savings and spend a bit more than bangernomics money on an EV?
Prius for those reqs and bangernomics money. They’ll be pushing 20 years old for around the 3 grand mark though.
There not that expensive. You’d get a 2008 cheap tax model for 3 grand.
Just did a quick browse on DoneDeal, must’ve just seen the most expensive ones first!
Are they (Mk2) still falling foul of catalytic converter thieves these days?
