Just curious, poll might be good if vanilla actually supports it.
I’m 63, if that helps your research.
Welcome to boards.
Thanks
there was a Boards census done 12 years ago and 60% were under the age of 35, more results here:
you'd think a good portion should still be under 40, even after 12 years and factoring in new users. or has the average age risen faster than chronological time…?
Is boards ever advertised elsewhere ?
Like in publications be they music, cinema, culture / arts ? Or even anywhere else online ?
If not it’s only word of mouth or say a person wanting to google ‘forum’. In fairness I’ve just done that and boards comes up as the second result.
I like boards.
Me, barely...
Am 30 been coming here a few years. Think I started coming here looking for info when I started building my house in 2019
Another one for the thirty something cohort.
Thats more than a few years. 2019 to 2024 5 years so I am guessing your not too good with the old maths.
Did you win the lotto? because that's about the only way a 25 year old could afford to build a house in this country but fair play to you.
Well maybe more than a few then !! It was 4.26am when I wrote it doing a run of nights shifts at the minute. No lotto win. Family land to start with was a help. Worked down in Kildare and built the house in Donegal was another help at the time. Saved every penny I could for a few years was worth it and built a sensible size house I could afford.
I was...last year.
Awe ok. Very good. Well done.
Just about. (38)
You're fierce grumpy today AMKC
Thanks god no-one under 40 would put up with this crap.
I'm 35 and have been here for a very long time. That being said, since the ability to view most thanked posts across the site was removed (and the generally reduced traffic here), I do spend more time on reddit, to my own personal shame.
I'm 39 for at least another few weeks - been here nearly 20 years though lol
I can think of two regular posters who are under 40 and one of them is even under 30 I think.
Neither of them are me 😔
Yes me. Until my next birthday.
Awh little lamb
It’s not age that brings and keeps people here, it attracts the kind of people who don’t need the dopamine hit of TikTok, Insta etc.
You won't be getting any dopamine around here anyway lol
Wouldn't want any dopayours anyway…
This is example of what you'll get.
Actually I reckon it's inertia. Most here are boards veterans, joined long before discord and even reddit.
Also it's a actually an example of early Irish online community. There is very little "diversity" in the modern sense, so pretty much everyone is Irish born and raised and with family roots. Which means we can relate to each other culturally. Even those foreigners from Cork
I use reddit a lot more now.
I have 1.6% of my 30s left before I turn 40 this summer and am clinging onto it for dear life 😁
younger people do not use browsers so until boards has an APP younger folks will just use Reddit.
Boards had an app maaaaaaaaany moons ago. I actually remember it being fairly okay to use. Not sure why they didn't keep it going.
Reddit is just so **** though, why does anyone go on it?
I feel under 40, but if you want to get all astronomical about it, I have been around the sun 41 times.
Wow, i've just realised that I've been on here for over 20 years
