I agree.
As was said earlier in the thread, all big businesses feed off the public purse. I saw on RTE this week that the Govt are considering giving money to Intel to build some new chip factory in Leixlip.
It's Intel's lobbyists and PR people who made them a billion-dollar company, not their software engineers. We farmers should remember that.
But but but farmers only get subsidies ......and they shouldn't be getting them.....😬😬😬🙄🙄🙄🙄twould make ya sick 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
There's still a great demand for chips all the same, whoever's making the money...
They're tough too.
My relief milker forgot to turn on the bulk tank yesterday after collection. Two milkings have gone into the tank and I copped it this evening milking. Do ye think the milk will be ok?
No, you will have to dump.it. it happened me a few years, i cooled the milk and put 2 more milkings in the tank. All sour, lorry load haf to be dumped
Not in this weather. A tip from here from a few years ago, car keys should be left on steps of milk tank as a reminder to check tank before they leave
Thanks for the replies, yeah I dumped it,no point taking a risk. That's a good idea about the car keys whelan. In fairness he is very upset about it but I told him not to worry, these things happen. He is a very good worker and reliable so I am just chalking it down as one of those things
do you have a plate cooler? if so you might be ok. i would ring your milk advisor if i was you.
I was going to ask about that. What temp does it come out of the plate cooler? If it's low single digits like some do you might have been ok. Also how cool your dairy stays during the day would be a factor. Weather hasn't been crazy hot.
I think its the fact it hasn't been agitated and drpends what temp tank was at at the beginning
Yes I have a plate cooler, was talking to my milk advisor and he said I should of got it tested just to see. Too late now but I just didn't want to create a bigger problem for myself. Ah sure I will know the next time......
Hope they use irish potatatoes
😃🙃
Relief milked for a friend years ago an odd time when he went on holiday, and beside the switch to turn on and off the machine he had a laminated note check the bulk tank after turning off the machine stuck to the wall and he always said it was more for himself.
I see on the news there IBM are announcing a load of R&D jobs. That means they have got a big grant from the government in order to create those jobs.
Unless it was a two stage from an icebank, it won't bring the milk to single figures, more likely be coser to 20" than 10".
There was no hope for that milk after two days un cooled or agitated. I've a calf feeder for whole milk (plate cooled to 16") and it had to be washed every day for the last few weeks or it'd go sour.
With The amount of robberies around here lately I don't think I could recommend that advise unfortunately. Will your new tank tell you if temp is too high?
Lucky enough here there is a 20min delay start on the tank, so start milking machine, start tank. Handy I've found
No. Only if temp isn't hot enough in the wash or not enough water in the wash
For anyone interested in foliar nitrogen application, a link to youtube video with Joel Williamdsand Tow and Fert.

Flynns of mullingar did a comprehensive test on Tow and Fert here about ten years ago putting the same application of conventional and Tow and fert on a few different paddocks and the response wasn't much different.
I saw a chat on Twitter yesterday where a fella was saying he starts the cows at 5 in the morning. Not sure what time he milks in the evening but that seems very early.
I was aiming for a 6.30-ish start here, mostly because I want to put them in around 4-ish in the evening to be finished for driving young lads to training/matches. I thought 6.30 was early enough. On the other side, I've a neighbour who brings them in around 9 most mornings and 6-7 in the evenings. He's the most relaxed easy-going man you could meet - never stressed and couldn't do enough for you if you ever needed a hand at anything.
If it's not a personal question, what time do people on here start/finish?
5:30 - 19:30. Usually start at 6 but getting finished for Ai man in the morning for a few weeks.
Sorry - finish at 19:30, go for the cows about 16:30
I taught I saw that there is a minimal difference with a 14/10 hour split. A lot depends on your willingness to accept a slightly earlier cullingand higher cell count.
15/9 is probably workable. It a bit like three milking Saturday and Sunday. You gacevto accept scarfice if you want tge right work/life balance
Ah that's BS. At it here for years and it works.
Lakeland gone to A+B-C in NI. A majority of suppliers wanted it apparently, driven by the reality that the margins in their current system are wafer-thin.
Some 'experts' in the media want southern farmers to the follow NI model without knowing the full story, but it seems the NI farmers now want to move in the opposite direction.
why hasn't it taken off so, if it was any good there'd be more used. they tried it on three or four farms then.
They just proved the product was BS then, waste of money
Just by my eye, conventional worked best.
Keep doing what you are doing.
I work part time off farm so need to be starting machine by 5.20 to make it on the work days. I keep that routine all week but on a Sunday it might be 6.00 when I start. Machine on for 4.15-4.30 in the evenings unless there is an emergency. Done by 6.00-6.15.
