Is there any real upside for Biden to a debate? It'll likely just be the "playing chess with a pigeon" thing and won't matter a jot to Trump voters. They're wearing diapers, ffs.
There is little downside to Biden debating. He easily win the last time. Trump supporters are not in play. It's the independents and not going to vote that he is aiming for.
Tbh, if he can't come out of a debate with Trump looking good then he shouldn't be POTUS anyway.
There is no hope Trump debates Biden, not a chance. He will find some sort of excuse and run off like he was avoiding the draft again.
Well, you'd hope independents would be smart enough at this point to sway toward Biden. The not going to vote bunch, I would think are unlikely to watch a debate in the first place. But maybe not setting a precedent is reason enough to go through with it.
Trump will debate if he can do it in front of a cheering and jeering Fox/GOP crowd with a Trump-aligned moderator. Trump doesn't want an actual debate. He wants to treat Biden like Clint Eastwood debating an empty chair.
There was a time when Clint Eastwood debating a chair would be considered very strange, now, not so much.
