So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
Also no one going to these places was trying to park on the Strand anyway.
I live not too far from the area and walk through there a couple of times a week. Most of the business there seem to be heaving! Seriously I've never seen them so busy. The area is IMO quiet a bit busier then pre covid.
The area is becoming quiet a trendy coffee/foodie destination in the last few years.
As do I and there's always people floating about. The point I'm making and it seems to get lost in the talk of parking etc is that having that level of roadworks outside your premises for 3 years is going to lead to some disruption. 2 pups is busy but there's no way I'd sit there with the building work going on inches away and that's just one example. When it's finally finished there'll be a lot more footfall and cyclists passing by which will definitely improve business.
Absolutely, I bet it will be even more popular once the works are finished. I will say, prior to the works, it wasn’t really attractive to sit outside these places anyway, due to the busy and noisy road next to them! Once the works are complete it might be more attractive with the bike lane pushing the road slightly further away and the general footpath and public realm improvements.
I honestly can't wait for it to be finished as I think the entire Fairview area in particular will be so much nicer. That doesn't excuse the dog and pony show we currently have to put up with on a daily basis. There were 2 stop/goes in place within 100 yards of each other today, plus match traffic from Croker, plus the Pedalpalozza from the city out to Fairview Park.
January 2025.
I look at the photos of the commuting nightmares here and each time thank Jebus I never have to commute in Dublin again.
You think September’s too early?
It's an easy commute using the inbound bike lane , you fly by all the stationary vehicles.
Weekdays are fine. The bike or bus into work is really the only way to go from where I am. The real pain in the hole is the weekend when all the stop/goes and work on the diversion routes makes doing the weekend chores and activities and absolute bloody nightmare.
Without a doubt. They still haven't completed the inbound section yet. There's still a loooooot of work left to do.
Yeah, spoke to someone yesterday, who said they are actually aiming for a pre christmas finish, which really says January to me.
Ah shite! 😫
Inbound section closed between Strandville and Bessborough, due to reinstatement works on the bus stop.
I think that some of the predictions here are verging on the ridiculous in terms of timeline.
As I said before, once the utility works are done, the rest is reasonably easy to complete.
You have only got to look at the rapid progress in recent weeks on the outbound section between Talbot Street and the Five Lamps.
I think this will be done well before September.
So you think they are officially saying September now, so they can try and look good if they get it finished in August?
I’ve no idea.
But I think that suggesting December is just poppycock.
I just listen to what the engineers tell me. 😂
a bus stop going at the end of my street, woohoo. i didn't mind no stop there if it meant improving the service but will be nice not to have to walk to the other side of the north strand bridge to get a bus
Just FYI, the bus stops that they're adding to the route on the inbound side now are only local services, so won't get the full benefit of the increased services. You might still be walking to the other bus stop.
It’s for the 130 which isn’t exactly infrequent!
Ah, I couldn't remember which route it was, thought it was one of the Ls, thanks.
so it's just for the 130? i lived in clontarf for a while years ago, the 130 must have the most well behaved customers on the northside
Bus that serves well to do suburb is a pleasant experience, what a shocker.
The 27 on the other hand...
There are no L routes along there.
Incidentally, the service levels along North Strand won’t be increasing under BusConnects when the D-Spine happens. The removal of the 14 will actually see service levels drop by up to 6 buses an hour if the planned service levels are rolled out.
Correct.
They are getting rid of the 14 route completely?
I wouldn’t say it ridiculous at all. They have a lot of work still to do around pretty much every junction inbound and outbound. The stretch from Lloyds to Connolly still needs a fair bit of work, as does Newcome bridge.
Considering this project is already almost 6 months late, I wouldn’t describe any part of it as rapid progress but that’s just me.
There will be no direct replacement for the northside half of 14 under BusConnects save for the hourly route 8 which will take a tour of Clontarf along the way.
The thinking is that people will use the N4 instead and change.
But that will mean a drop of 6 buses an hour from Donnycarney Church to Amiens Street.
Yes they do, but most of the work now is what I would term relatively “cosmetic” by comparison to what they were doing previously.
The utility works are pretty much all done, and they’re now moving into the finishing phase. That tends to take far shorter.
