Hi, good afternoon. just wondering if i install front splitter and rear spoiler to my car, will it increase/affect my insurance?? thanks
You could always call them to find out....
They will be seen as modifications so have a jar of lube handy when you ring them.
There should be an allowance for harmless stick on stuff like that. Not like the down force is going to change the handling. 😜
But the type of drivers doing it on the other hand have most likely a tendency to have more accidents…
Yeah, but they'd be doing it anyway!
There just cosmetic add on and won't affect your insurance in any way, mine didn't anyhow
It could easily do. Most insurers don't like modifications, cosmetic or otherwise.
Cosmetic modifications tell an insurer a lot about the type of policyholder they would be getting.
Personally I'd fit them and say nothing
Blatant not disclosure can't be a good idea.
Splitter
Not as if it's increasing hp though :) I doubt the lads with the black arse Jettas' are declaring either.
The major difference not declaring makes is that it the bumper ever gets damaged, insurance won't pay out for modified body panels
A family member of mine crashed recently and I’d imagine their car could have been heavily modified with no issues. Nobody from the insurance came to inspect the car, they just brought it to an independent bodyshop
Why would somone who wants to add these cosmetic mods be treated any different to lads who buy cars with these mods fitted by previous owner or from factory? Should a person notify insurance about adding go faster stripes? Surely they tell a lot about the driver also?
Having said that, after getting the run around from different insurance companies when renewing recently, I can fully understand why any excuse would be used to load a premium or refuse to pay out on a claim. I had to laugh at one lad who said that specifying annual mileage was really only used by insurance companies for statistical purposes but then went on to explain that if 25k km specified then no problem travelling 25,500kms but really anything beyond that should be notified to company. I mean wtf
It doesn't matter if it was you or a previous owner who fitted the modifications. You must declare them, if requested. If features are added in the fafactory, then they're not modifications. However, the specifications of such models give an insurer the same mental picture of the proposer.
Increasing power isn't important. What the Jetta guys do or don't do is also unimportant.
Non disclosure makes your insurance potentially voidable, and that would mean real trouble. Nobody will want to insure someone who isn't honest and truthful.
Not really I just rang my insurance company and told them about the body kit and their reply was thats no problem, as long as I wasn't modifying the engine
Good. I'd get that in writing if I were you. I will vary insurer to insurer also.
Which company ?
