LOI First Division football is not too far away now, so time to get this thread up and running.

We ended 2023 outside the playoffs and had clearly regressed in terms of the quality of the squad, but the season ended on something of a high with the news of a takeover by a Candadian consortium.

To be honest, there's not much evidence of any spending by them, and not on the men's squad anyway.

In the off season, we lost Marc Ludden to retirement and Success Edogun to Finn Harps, and both will be big losses. We've brought in Yoyo Mahdy and we've held onto Enda Curran, and Callum McNamara returns from Galway. I think we've held on to most of those we'd have wanted to, but others may point one or two we've lost.

We started our competitive season tonight with a 2-0 win away to Carrigaline United. Enda Curran got the first and debutant David Tarmey added the second.

The season starts at home to Cobh Ramblers on Friday February 16 at 7.45pm, and we're away to UCD the following week.

You can pick up season tickets - It's €180 for an adult non-member for the men's games only, or €225 for men and women's teams. You can become a member for €199. I'm not sure if that includes a season ticket as the price isn't all that different and you also get a shirt and other perks, but maybe it's just a good deal.

Treaty 0-1 Finn Harps

Treaty's unbeaten start to the season ended with an awful performance tonight.

The first half in particular was dire, with Treaty unable to get out of their own half or string more than two passes for at least the first 30 minutes. Harps knocked one ball after another over our high line for Success Edogun to run on to, and it caused us problems all night. They didn't create a huge amount, but we did need keeper Chambers to react smartly to keep put a glancing header.

We came into it a bit more in the second half, as we gained some kind of foothold in their half, but I cannot remember us creating a single chance all night. Harps should have been ahead after about an hour, when Edogun went past a couple of defenders and played a low ball across the box, but the Finn Harps player arriving at the far post somehow tapped wide.

The did go ahead with 10 minutes to go. Edogun got onto another ball over the top, thanks to some very hesistant defending, and although the defence reacted to close down his effort, the ball fell kindly to a Harps player following up who placed the ball past a stranded Chambers. We lumped a few balls into the box in the final 10 minutes, though we didn't even do that very well, and, we never ever looked like scoring. It really was desperate stuff.

Next game: away versus Athlone, Monday April 1st, 5pm (note the Bank holiday kick off time).

This is without doubt the worst panel of players that Treaty have had since their formation four years ago. They have been punching above their weight so far and got out of jail against Kerry and Bray. That performance against Finn Harps was shocking and I expect us to continue to tumble down the table. Tommy Barrett has signed a bunch of piss poor players and needs to take responsibility for this on a bigger budget than in previous years. Tactically again last night we were left scratching our heads and in particular what was the thought process behind playing Willie Armshaw up top with Enda Curran! Also it would be nice to see our manager show a bit more passion rather than leaning against the dugout for the majority of games when things aren't going our way - it shows a guy bereft of ideas.

Athlone 1-0 Treaty

Two losses in a row now after a dreadful performance in Athlone.

Athlone started the better, playing with more pace and purpose, and went ahead after about 20 minutes when a nice ball over the top was well finished into the bottom corner. Treaty had their only decent spell of the game towards the end of the first haf, and created their best chance, which was a glancing Alec Bryne header from an inswinging Armshaw cross that forced a super save from the Athlone keeper.

That bit of momentum was absent for virtually the entire second half, which was just atrocious stuff. We passed the ball aimlessly back and forth across the back 4, with Athlone perfectly happy to let us do that, and when we tried to move up the pitch we inevitably lost the ball. For the the last 5 minutes we resorted to long balls into the area, and in that remaining few minutes we generated more chances than the rest of the game, and twice sent the ball just the wrong side of the post, with a handball penalty appeal in there too, but we got what we deserved, which was absolutely nothing.

Wexford 3-2 Treaty

I was not at or watching this, just going by Twitter updates.

The first half seemed even and uneventful enough, but Wexford went 2 up in the second half, and things looked bleak. The first was a deflected shot just after halftime, and the second on 79 minutes had us looking for offside.

We scored 2 in 5 minutes just after that to level things - both from Yoyo Mahdy, and the first was an absolutely cracking freekick by the sounds of it.

But Wexford went up the pitch to score a very late winner, to make it 3 defeats in a row, as the good start evaporates. Hopefully the next game gets things back on track.

Treaty 0-0 Kerry

Treaty stopped the rot after an entertaining game in the Markets field tonight.

It was actually a really entertaining game of football, with both sides feeling like they could win it. We were almost ahead after about 45 seconds when we hit the crossbar after a low ball across the box, and pressed well in the first half. Kerry had chances too, the best of which was a glancing header from a cross that went just outside the post.

It was mostly Kerry on the attack in the second half, and they carved the Treaty defence open a few times, the best of which resulted in a player blasting the ball off the crossbar when he might have been better off just to pick his spot. Treaty threatened too and forced a couple of saves, but it was Kerry who finished the stronger, and we had our keeper and defenders to thank for some crucial interventions that earned us a point.

Bray 2-1 Treaty

(Kirrane)

No wins in 7 games now, and Treaty in freefall with the start of the season feeling like years ago.

We were dismal in the first half, passing the ball around aimlessly, and then lumping long balls forward that went nowhere. We have away silly goals too, through losing possession in dangerous areas. The first came from a mis-control right in front of goal, with the Bray player quickly poking past a surprised Chambers, and the second was a smaer glancing finish from a low ball into the box after a Treaty player had been dispossessed trying to be too smart in defence. Bray looked like they should have had a penalty too, while our best chances, such as they were chances at all, both came from the Bray keeper having clearances blocked down/intercepted, but they never fell quite right.

We were better in the second, and foced a couple of decent saves before Leon Kirrane scored his first senior goal when he stepped inside a defender and fired a shot into the top corner. We came close a couple more time, but Bray had their chances on the counter- attack too, and they held on for a deserved win.

Treaty 0-2 UCD

The brutal run of form contined at home tonight.

We were behind after just 45 seconds, when a throw-in into the box was laid off by a UCD forward for an incoming player to crash a shot into the top left corner. UCD utterly dominated the first half, and missed a great chance to double their lead when a well worked corner routine ended up with a back post header going just outside the post. Treaty, who had no recognised forward player in the team as a result of injuries to Curren and Mahdy, were limited to hopeful balls forward that created nothing.

It was better stuff in the second half, which started with a spectacular overhead from Kirrane that didn't go too far wide, and we put UCD under a bit of pressure for longer spells. But all that was undone when a simple ball across the Treaty box got a fresh air shot from the player attempting to clear, and a UCD player was quickest to react and stab the ball back across the goal, and it trickled over the line with everybody else frozen.

We hit the crossbar twice in about 10 seconds in a late scramble, but never threatened otherwise, and it was a fairly routine win for UCD, in what is becoming a nightmare season for Treaty.

Finn Harps 1-0 Treaty

The dire run continued up in Mordor tonight.

Harps had most of the ball in the first half, but apart from a few dangerous crosses into the box that never came to anything, they didn't make much of it. Treaty created nothing whatsoever, just aimless hoofs over the top to nobody.

We came into it slightly more in the second half, but still created very very little - I don't think their keeper had a save to make all night. They still weren't creating much either, apart from one volley that Chambers got down well to save.

But with 10 minutes to go a flicked on header caught our defence flatfooted, and their player buried a left foot shot low to Chambers left. We huffed and puffed for 10 minutes, but with no real attackers on the pitch, and no players with any kind of guile, we didn't manage anything other than a couple of corners and crosses that came to nothing.

In a really awful first division, we are really awful too.

Next game: Home to Athlone on this Bank Holiday Monday, 5pm kick off.

Treaty 0-1 Athlone

The nightmare continues after another woeful home loss.

There was very little in the first half, with both sides cancelling each other out, and a half-hearted appeal for a penalty for Treaty being the only real talking point.

We were 1-0 down about 25 seconds into the second half, when Scott Kirkland dithered in defence, got dispossessed, and their striker poked home a finish. Things got worse with an absurd straight red card for Evan O'Connor for bringing down an Athlone player who got clear - it must have been for denying a goal-scoring chance but it was miles out and near the sideline.

That really opened things up and both sides pressed. Treaty had a couple of headers cleared off the line while Athlone failed to take advantage of opportunities on the counter. Especially in the last 10 minutes, Treaty lumped in one long ball after another, but nothing came of them, and even with the referee evening up the red card count very late on, we couldn't fashion the chance we needed.

Next game: home to Wexford, Friday May 10th, 7.45pm.

Treaty 2-2 Wexford

(Devitt, Byrne)

Despite stopping the rot, it'll feel like two points dropped tonight after the way things ended.

It started awfully, with Wexford ahead within 5 minutes. A ball over the top just evaded the straining heads of Treaty defenders, and was smartly controlled and finished by a Wexford striker. But we were level just 4 minutes later, when an in-swinging Devitt corner evaded everybody and found its way into the net. Not much happened for the rest of the half - Wexford had more of things, but didn't create much.

It was similar in the second half, as Treaty were mostly on the defensive, but comfortable enough, and there were few chances of any kind. With 5 minutes to go we broke from defence and with a lovely passing move, worked our way down the pitch to set up a 1 on 1 for sub Mark Byrne who placed a composed finish past their keeper.

Wexford started knocking long balls up after that, and their height caused us trouble. We had Davitt to thank for a last ditch block late on, but even one later on, another long ball was flicked on, and a Wexford player hooked it past Chambers with virtually the last kick of the game.

Deflating way to end the game, but a point was probably fair.

Longford 2-1 Treaty

Back to losing ways in a sodden Lonford this evening.

In the first half, not much happened on a pitch that showed why there had been two pitch inspections before the game. Longford had more of the ball but neither side created anything really. Just 3 minutes before halftime Treaty went ahead out of nothing when Alec Byrne scored a beautiful near post diving header from a low whipped cross.

Longford equalised early in the second half, when a player worked a yard of space on the edge of the area and fired a low shot past Chambers. It was even enough after that - I can't remember any real chances for either side, but Longford went 2-1 up with 15 to go from a glancing header from a corner.

Treaty tried to press, and did knock some long balls into the box, but it was Longford who came closest with a scramble that saw the ball hit the post and the rebound blocked for a corner, and they held on comfortably in the end.

No wins in the last 12 games. And I have no idea where one will come from. We never even look like scoring.

Even though they started so well, it was always going to go this way with the squad Treaty have, probably the weakest Treaty have ever had. You would hope the new Canadian owners are focusing on building from the ground up, investing in the underage squads, working on developing facilities etc., because there certainly hasn't been any investment in the senior mens squad.

Cobh 1-1 Treaty

An improved second half saw us pick up an away point last night.

Cobh had the better of the first half and went ahead after about 15 minutes when a broken ball in the box was lashed into the top corner. They continued to be on top, but without creating much in the way of clear chances, while we created very little.

We were level 5 minutes into the second half when Alec Bryne got on the end of an Armshaw cross, and we continued to edge things, looking a lot more purposeful and livelier than in recent weeks. cobh hit the woodwork at one point, but we also hit the crossbar twice in about 20 seconds later on, and came close a couple more times. There was a late red card for Oisin O Reilly for reasons I'm not quite sure about, maybe something off the ball/screen, and it ended level.

Next game: away to Cork, Friday May24th, 7.45pm.

I'd wait until the end of the season before comparing attendances and the way things are going at the moment we will be hard pushed to be north of 500 for each home game for the remainder of the season. Again I don't know of any other management team anywhere in the world who could survive a run of results like we've had without getting the bullet. 5pts from 39 is shocking.

I'll assume it's just ignorance that you don't know the actual name of the division, and not NIFL Premiership or the Scottish Premiership you are talking about.
