Used car prices seem to be dropping too from my occasional browses on Donedeal anyway.
Noticed that too on Donedeal overpriced cars for sale a long time are dropping the price .
are still asking , not receiving. I have a real gra for a k11 micra and follow the prices occasionally. The ones over 2k stay there for a good while and drop
Bangernomics find of the year so far, IMO. That's perfect, even down to the fact that nobody picked that colour back in 1998.
Even has 4 hubcaps to keep it neat.
Lovely car but is a 26 year old car even insurable these days without a classic policy?
Therein lies the problem, it's a lovely car in fairness, ideal for someone starting out but they can't get insured.
Without quoting everyone here, maybe you're right, it's just that I know of two lads who paid more than double the asking on that recently for cars with way more milage and in worse shape. I'm actually surprised it's still there. I'd absolutely love that but it's a bad week financially in my house!

In all seriousness, its the colour that makes it stand out now.
Its lovely and might work as a city car, but its not as cool as say a Smart car or a restored Mini etc. and probably has limited appeal to all but a very few "enthusiasts" and perhaps OAP's. IMO the asking price is about right.
Micra is sold now. By definition, anything that sells on DoneDeal within a few days in today's tough market, is beyond a bargain, more of a firesale. Or in other words, sold too cheaply really.
Some sellers just need to raise cash quickly or just want to get rid, in either case, don't seem to mind if they get a bit less than they should. Or they simply have underpriced it without realising.

The good knowledgeable people of boards, can you help me buy a car? This is for a second family car but will need motorway driving daily, about 100km return.
Budget is tight as I am already financed for the main car.
Looking at a 2006 mercedes c-class petrol 1.8L for €3750 (70k miles, 4 owners) or a 2009 VW golf gt sport 1.6TDI for €6k (88k miles, 3 owners).
VW comes with NCT for the year and Merc comes with NCT til Jan.
Or suggest a car for me?
Neither of those are bangernomics but the golf is going to cost much less in fuel.
Personally I'd go something like this as it's better on the motorway and has cruise control etc, while also being in bangernomics territory

Is there any way you could significantly stretch that budget? The reason I'm asking is that your commute is big, so costs a fortune in fuel. If you could stretch to about €10k, you could buy an EV like a Hyundai Ioniq, which would save you about €2500 per year in fuel alone. Plus far less in maintenance and far less chance of something going wrong with it. Presuming of course you can charge the car up at home (you have a house with private parking)
So even though you would have to fork out a lot more initially, it is likely the total cost of ownership of the Hyundai would be lower than the other cars you are considering. And you would be in a significantly newer car, that has a very pleasant ride with more modern mod cons and safety
Would you know if they would at least be considered reliable cars? Do you think the Merc will eat fuel? I am rather clueless.
I was thinking that the audi had a lot of milage? Overall i assume youre suggesting it would be a safer bet than the two I suggested?
The hyundai we did consider but i am not sure about the cost of charging and then also about the battery life. I believe when I looked at it the battery range wasnt huge which would mean daily charging I think. Maybe should reconsider this option. Appreciate your help.
The Ioniq would easily do your trip in the worst day of winter with quite a bit to spare, but yes, you would need to charge it every day. Pretty much any EV owner uses night rate eletricity to charge at home. It depends on your rate of course how cheap it is. Some people (like me) pay just 5c night rate, some pay as high as 15c. But even at the latter, your daily 100km commute would cost €2.50, vs about €12 or thereabouts in a diesel or petrol (sums in my head on the latter, don't flame me for being a EUR or two out)
Been keeping an eye on the value of pre 2004 A4 Avants (B6 model) as I haven't used mine for about 15 months now and I know I really SHOULD sell it, but I just like it too much to get rid of it

Looks good. For a cheap fix to the roof liner you can put a few thumb tacks or staples into the sagging parts. Works a treat.
That's a lovely looking car. Headliner is a handy afternoon fix with some spray glue and a small pry bar.
Both of those are massively overpriced.

A nice specced Mk 2 Octy TDI, comfy and big for not massive money. I sold a 2012 last year 160k km for €5500. Sat nav cruise, climate and park pilot.
A Yeti for €3,250. Should be easy to get it for the €3,000 limit. Pity they stopped making these, the Kariq/Karoq replacement didn't live up to it in terms of versatility.
