That Milwaukee gun is almost twice the price of an 18v Makita. I won't have a pile of work for it so hoping it would be good enough? Or is it really poor?
Take a step back and try the screw in cartridges with the screw in hand gun.
I have two of them with years and they're grand to use.
I'm looking for a 3/4 inch valve that can work on a timer. Something like a solenoid valve.
Cartages as cleaner and less chance of contamination and battery all the way.
one of those locking couplers makes a big difference too
I've Milwaukee one and wouldn't be without it. Once you try a battery one you'd never go back. Id have only small work it with it myself but just speeds the job up but I'd have Milwaukee tools so have batteries
Any one have a camera for outside, Im not always around the house and if soeone has a setup thats not to expensive , I would look at doing it.
The camera would be going up an a concrete shed, doesnt have to move but if it did it would be a plus , I would think a cheap wifi connection aswell use mobile data sim.
There is an m12 Milwaukee gun too if you don't have any batteries for either Milwaukee or Makita. It runs the 12v system so it would be cheaper.
If you have Makita batteries already then buy Makita gun, they are fine reliable machines just less rated than Milwaukees.
setting up this wee battery fencer with solar. Just need to sort out a mount for the panel and it will be good to go. 12v lawnmower battery fits well and leaves space for the charge controller along side it inside.
very cool. Where did you source your parts?
We've a REOLINK solar camera that we had in the sheep this year it and put it in the yard now, works quite well with the phone, cost €120, but they're more now
OH was using the Dewalt impact driver DCF787 with a 5ah batter to drive tex screws through aluminium sheeting into box iron. The tex screws are no14 6.3 x 22. After driving about 20 the aluminium casing on the driver got really hot. Is that normal?
the battery I had already, the solar panel came from Amazon with the controller. €45
They do get hot but best to give it a rest so it cools down if it gets really hot. Assume its new and not a well used one that needs cleaning and regreasing?
Yes it's new and only drove a handful of tex screws before when OH was tightening down sheets on a shed.
If it gets hot that quickly I'd take it back. Hard to know because my idea of hot may not be the same as yours or your OH?
Id say it gets hot but not so you can't hold it.
Hot as in you couldn't hold the aluminium casing. I will phone them and see what they say.
You could also make it a "safety" issue if it gets that hot ;-)
Ya I agree with the other posters it's faulty in my eyes anyway I'd accept nothing but replacement
If you run the gun free for a min or so, it helps cool it down. Can't say if that level of heating is normal.
Thanks , IM going to make a purchase and I let the atlantic weather put it through paces.
It's a good job @_Brian, this is the way I've been running fences the past few years and It is better value than any of the integrated units. I bought an enclosure like this with the first one.
I also made one for a solar pump and fence unit with a larger panel, like this:
Or the rushed "temporary" job from 4 years ago that is still in use.
And this one from the poly tunnel, again bigger panel but same idea.
Any recommendations on cheap solar power charge controllers? I need one but I'm very wary of the cheap ones on Amazon etc. However I see a few of them have cropped up in projects posted here.
I've about 3 different makes/models from Amazon and no issues with any of them. But I wouldn't consider installing any in a building without fuses either side.
But what's the project, the ones above are for small scale setups probably 10Amps max.
Only a chicken shed light that comes on at dusk for a couple of hours. Well its for Guinea Fowl actually. They won't go inside at night without a light. Currently wife uses one of my DeWalt lanterns which needs putting in and taking out every night. If that works an automated pop hole might be in order.
I have a chicken guard door it runs on AA batteries, they last over a year without replacing. Closes with a dusk sensor opens at 07:00
There are small solar light kits that might suit you too like:

Probably some with dusk/dawn switches or a remote control too.
Hi Brian, can you share the link to the parts your bought? Tidy job

It ran 14v to charge the battery then dropped to 12.6 to maintain it as expected.
Be interesting to see how it performs in the long run.
The battery is just a standard 12v ride on lawnmower battery.
I'd be very surprised if you have an issue, I'm running a 2J fence unit with a 60AH Car battery on a 30Watt panel and never have. I don't outwinter so haven't a clue how well it would do on the shortest days but should do you well into Nov. My solar pumps/ fencers on the 100W panels require an occasional top up in November (Maybe once, twice at most).
this is on an out farm where for the moment there’s no power. I may outwinter for 1 year before we’ve power connected but if need be I’ll just stick a second panel on and that should be fine.
Once I can I’ll move to a mains fencer.
