Plenty threads started on here against various schemes and in general the threads aren't really out ro "defeat" a scheme - just point out the flaws with it and vent and thats usually all that happens - it takes actions in the "real" world to bring change.
Things like the MUP don't effect everyone equally - its really just an additional cost for those that already by alcohol - personally it doesn't effect me so I've never been that bothered.
This sheme effects almost everyone in one way or another and adds significant "hassle" to those that have done the right thing in the past when it comes to recycling.
So manual return probably won't happen any time soon.
I'm not telling you what to post at all I'm just exercising my right of reply and telling you that you are wrong about my mindset.
Shopping and disposing of the waste from shopping affects almost everyone. It is a bit of a hassle for me, but as someone who is lucky enough to be able to go to shops by my own steam, this exta imposition is piffling. There will be other experiences, and if some people have to lose money by putting containers in their house bin, they will be no worse off than those who throw them on the street.

The scam first and foremost is to benefit the large retailers and producers.

Its not trivial if you dont drive and don't have an RVM a short walk away. It's really not trivial if you get your groceries delivered. It's definitely not trivial if you are wheelchair bound or have any other mobility issues. Finally it's not trivial if money is tight already to incur a 15 cent addition to any cans or bottles you might buy.
And before you bring your strawman argument of "Oh well they dont have to buy bottles or cans", there are hundreds of people around the country living in places with water unfit to drink and are forced to buy bottles of water.
I can't understand why milk cartons are exempt but water is not....

I'd imagine its because the smell of stale beer or coke is unpleasant but not awful, a few drops of gone off milk will stink out the machine in a very short period of time.

I would have thought bottled water would be more of a staple for people therefore exempt.
The best value is the 5 litre container which is exempt. But I know there are people who cannot cope with that size.

Once again another country's DRS putting Re-Turn to shame contradicting those testifying on here "it's the same scheme as everywhere else".
It's not even the same scheme in the various States in Australia, or in the Provinces in Canada. Some USA states have schemes but most don't. Ontario has a scheme which only takes back alcohol containers.

The point is there are countries / states / provinces that have created superior schemes to Re-Turn. All we had to do was take the best features to suit what we already had. We could have learned something from them but no we had to do a money grubbing half job.
You are making facts up by the looks of it. I have been buying bottled water for years. The best value per liter (in Dunnes anyway) has always been buying 6 x 2Litre packs. For some unknown reason the cost per liter of a 5 litre bottle has always been more expensive even though less packaging. Now that the Re-turn racket has kicked in, Dunnes have increased the price of 6 x 2litre from around €2.60 to over €3 (on top of the deposit). The 5litre bottles are almost always sold out. So even if you are lucky enough to find 5 Litre bottles in stock the price per litre has gone up. Sorry for being triggered, I guess I should just be bending over and take it with a smile.
I would see them as work in progress, where they are new in the last few years. Nothing is perfect, and there are always groups who see bogeymen where there are none. I see that the scheme in Ontario to get non alcoholic containers into the system has run into delays. When you saw the carryon by the truckers at the Windsor / Detroit border during Covid, they could rebel against other stuff.
I'd love to know how long was the research done. Ossian Smith only got the bill signed into law 18 months ago. Did they go and look at other DRS schemes or just swallow the brochure for the machines they chose.

There are been significant prices increases across the board since February in bottled drinks. But totally unrelated to DRS......bin charges are also going up, again totally unrelated to DRS........
