I didn't say they were individuals, they arranged to meet up, did they break the law? if so pick em up, If not, let them be
If they are aren't allowed to live here (visas cancelled, not granted for more Russians), this instance of the "paradox of tolerance" (people using rights they have while here to stage an offensive fascist gathering in praise of the Russian military) might go away or at least reduce.
More serious potential problems that could end up taking up a lot of the time of our not very competent and quite badly underresoured police force/intelligence etc. go away too. They can exercise human rights to freedom of expression in Russia.
The woman pictured claims to be an Irish person born of Russian parents. But has been posting anti Ukrainian hatred on social media since the start of this invasion. She's not doing so on her own. Now she's pictured in a Z parade with the russian ambassador. These are not individual nobodies. This a group led from the Russian embassy.
I believe it goes back to ancient Islamic art.
I have greeting cards from the 1920s received by my grandparents and they depict green swastikas everywhere. Back then it was a symbold of good luck and peace.
” are necessary in a democratic society “
These guys are literally cheering for destruction of democratic society’s waving flags of a state that destroyed everything democratic
” in the interests of national security “
We have an ambassador who repeatedly lied to Irish people on the national news stirring up **** again
” prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others “
Literally wearing uniforms and flags of a terrorist organisation which committed crimes
That’s before we get to the imitation firearms which is possibly a criminal offence in itself
I do realise it yes…. A bunch of flag waving nobodies do not strike me as a threat to anything… let them do their thing, and if they brake the law, then come crushing down on them.
It's not an unfettered right. You do realise that, don't you? Balancing of competing rights is a pretty basic concept in every democracy and not the most complicated concept to grasp. Or are you just being a contrarian?
I did … So were they subject to restrictions and penalties ? and if so.. why? keeping in mind the freedom of expression
Have you actually read what you linked to?
“2 The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.”
Swastika laundry founded in 1912, Ballsbridge, Dublin. Mad.

You tell me
Don't get me wrong I do not agree at all with that Russian flag waving and all the other inbred shenanigans
Multiple eu countries make it illegal to display fascist signs and flags
Looks like it is
Can people let’s say racists, express their views with a megaphone on O Connell street?
It is,
Everyone has the right to freedom of expression in the EU. Its one of our fundamental rights.
What do you think the terms of such a peace would be and, given the original poster's question, what do you think could/should be used to bring this about?
It's wild - I'd love to talk about the potential terms of a peace agreement because I don't know what would work. There are many people on this thread actively advocating for a peace proposal and I'd love to engage some in a discussion about what the peace will actually look like. But yet, I can't seem to engage anyone in a debate about it!
I just can't see any terms that will be acceptable to the parties. Ukraine will not give up territory, and Russia seems determined to legitimise their seized territory. Only a strategic defeat of one or the other (whether that is a military collapse or a political collapse) or a perpetual stalemate/frozen conflict seem to me like realistic outcomes at this point in time. Both sides have put forward their peace proposals while rejecting the others - the sides are just too far apart for any real peace agreement.
You say that a lot will depend on the American election and I'd be interested to hear your views on this as well. Are you suggesting that Donald Trump's claimed peace deal will work if he is elected? He hasn't disclosed the terms of same, but there must be some idea out there as to what terms he could present that would be acceptable to both parties?
Read recently that weapons valued at $1.5 billion that Ukraine received shortly before the invasion gave them a chance when it began. It makes you wonder what they might be able to do with the $60 billion allocation that just passed.
Isn’t brandishing an imitation firearm an illegal offence in Ireland?
Option 4 is the most likely imo. A lot will depend on the American election result more than any battlefield actions over the next few months.
Terrorists looking for more recruits of the feeble minded in Ireland.
Should be afforded the same treatment German soldiers and supporters were afforded in Ireland in WW2. Internment.
Ireland was a free country then too.
These guys need to be kicked out pronto
Walking around in Nazi uniforms ffs
We should be very wary of Russians staging patriotic events in Ireland. It's no secret Russia has sought to interfere in elections in the west, spread misinformation and sought to undermine the EU. There's clearly a need to be wary.
French agree with Ukrainian figures
Not really.
If any waving the old hammer and sickle and showing their love for Putin from afar are only here on a visa, it is just weakness being taken advantage of.
Said it at start of the invasion that a lot of them should have been shown the door and the new visas stopped completely all across the EU, but I think only the Baltic states and Finland have taken that step and clamped down.
Are we free to deport guests for actively campaigning against freedom? Or do we wait until someone is hurt or acts of sabotage are perpetrated
At very minimum Gardai should keep an eye on those who loudly advertise their hatred for the values of the republic
It's all part of living in a free country...... embrace that fact
We should be careful it starts with flags and Zwastikas and ends with Putin invading to “save Russian speakers”

As I've said on this thread before, a future Ukraine without proper unrestricted access to the Black Sea & Sea of Azov is defensively unviable. That means Russian military concessions of territory currently held along the Mariupol - Melitopol coast. Plus a complete partition of the Crimean peninsula, alongside Korean style UN DMZ zones, full NATO & EU membership with stationing of NATO forces in a future Ukraine.
Donbas region military frontier has remained largely unchanged since 2014, so perhaps that's an outside possibility of concessions to Russia. However I can't see Ukraine giving up the rest of the Azov sea coast in a settlement.
Neither side is ready for such any such compromise so the conflict goes on for many years yet.
I predict we will still have the Tankie vermin calling for "peace" which always amounts to the complete subjugation of the Ukranian nation & people, enslaved to Russia.
Everyday the narrative that NATO won't take anymore of russias bullsh*t is reinforced
