Good clothes being robbed off the washing line!
When was it that you down south decided to adopt the continental two-plug socket? Am I correct in thinking that it was mainly only new-builds that were affected, as it didn't last for long. I've asked the in-laws, but they just stared at me blankly like I'm a foreign species (actually that's usual, even though we dig with the same foot).
Same here.
Smash Hits 1981 - 1990
NME 1983 - 2001
Hot Press 1987 - 1995
and loads of the monthly ones like The Wire, Uncut, Mojo, Record Collector, Word etc
I let go of a lot of them in recent years.
Ha, no surprise they stared at you blankly, AFAIK we never had two pin sockets here, though initially they were round pin so you needed an adaptor in older houses for square pins. It was smaller appliances that came with a two pin plug, ie they weren't earthed, so if something went wrong you became the earth.
The only time i've seen two pin sockets are in the lights over mirrors in bathrooms specifically for electric razors, though i'm not even sure you can still get two pin electric razors?
Gotta love the 'if you insist'
'Look In' was all the rage in my time, every teenage bedroom wall was covered in their posters of various artists.
Chargers for electric razors are still 2 pins.
Most of the ones sold though cant be used plugged in as they are wet & dry shavers eg could even use in shower when charged.
The older style dry ones could be used just directly plugged in…usally got better power that way.
Golly ice cream bars … basically a block of plain Vanilla on a stick … really tasty…cancelled however… seemed to go the way of Noddy … remember him and Big Ears … cancelled too …
Yeah, Golly Bars aren't around anymore, for whatever reason. 🤔 They were my grandmother's favourite…
Is it just me or has the word "moreover" exploded in use in the last year or so?
Angry biker calling at your door demanding you return that video you borrowed ages ago. You're now BANNED for the Video Store.
the folens rep that would come to our school had an speech impediment that meant his 's's would come out as 'sshh'. very unfortunate given the names of the annuals
Speaking of wall paper on school books, one year all we had was that really thick wall paper with a sort of embossed spongey design on it, five times thicker than normal wallpaper. Twas the style of the time.
My school books already weighed about six stone and this doubled that, while also completely disguising what the books actually were. Look in your school bag and see a big sea of purpley off white sponge flowers. Science book or history book? Nobody knows.
They were Schuko sockets I think and were used in the early days of electrification.
Mostly only around Limerick at that
I'm almost sure there were a few in my grandparents' house in Tramore. I do seem to remember a good few 2 pin sockets in that house but it's so long ago.
Pre Movie Advert on a video cassette I rented featuring Ray d'arcy advertising this Video Recorder Head cleaner for the tidy little sum of IR £9.95 before tossing it into the background.
Interesting I wonder was it due to Siemens being involved in the construction of Shannon.

Joining absolutely gigantic Queues for Movies like Back to the Future and The Empire Strikes back only to be turned away because well the cinema could accept no more.
A long queue for Star Trek 6 the undiscovered country in UCI Tallaght. We were made to wait for AGES after the advertised start time because they were cleaning the theatre it was in.
I have a very specific memory of queueing for the original Star Wars in the Adelphi Cinema and the queue going all the way back around into Little Mary Street and we had tickets already…
I would have been ~7 years old.
call cards being a thing people collected. I remember one person I knew got one of the folders that you put CD’s into and put call cards into them.
2 pin Schuko sockets were installed in my parents house when rural electrification happened in 1958,that was in Co. Meath. They lasted until the house was rewired around 1990 or so.
Sorry if it has been posted (possibly even by myself).

Those two pin side earth were actually a very safe design. The pins didn't make contact until they were completely covered by the enclosure.
The biggest drawback was that the sockets stuck out about 10 cm.
They are still widely used on the continent. The design has improved so they are recessed into the wall and no longer stick out.
Found a couple of references to it online but seems there's not a lot known as to why it was used, though one plausible reason posited was Dev didn't want to conform to anything British. Minded to investigate some old abandoned houses now and get a pic for posterity. https://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plug-voltage-by-country/ireland/

Some people still collect them! 😁
CD wallets in your car.
Literally everyone at Mass on a Sunday, look in and see who's saying it then head over to the railer for a smoke.
If I am driving (non-local), I put some CDs in the glove compartment. When I get home, they go back on the shelves.
