All these guys are incapable of understanding basic concepts, such as that Ukraine has its own autonomy and can make choices of its own. Wanting to move towards the West and away from Russia was their choice, not anyone else's.
The fact that Ukraine tried for many years to chart a course between Russia and the West, and ultimately rejected Russias interference in their country, which led to Russia invading, seems lost on them.
Of course we in Ireland understand why a country would seek to diversify trade and share ideals with the EU, and away from dependence and political subservience to a former empire next door.
We are therefore ideally poised to understand Ukraine, and these commentators who cant grasp this perspective look foolish to us.
Not really a shock tbh. Some sanctions are easy(if longwinded and expensive) to bypass, especially highly mobile and tiny items like basic inside near every electronic product chips that are made and sold across the world in unimaginable numbers every year. Hell, you could probably scavenge enough chips for your requirements from all the used IT gear we throw into recycling every year, a fair chunk of which ends up nations beyond the West as we like to outsource the messy stuff too. Even if there were no outsourcing or global markets and they were all made in The West™ they'd still be easy enough to procure.
For Russia, the passing of the Ukraine aid package was a major development, demonstrating how much the USA wants to be involved in Ukraine and how much they are going out of their way to damage Russia.

Fair enough. It was surprising to me as I was thinking of the effect sanctions had on Iraq. These crippled Saddam's efforts to rebuild his military again and develop missiles and "WMD" after the Gulf War, as emerged publically later when the US invaded.
Those were UN sanctions signed off on by the Security Council (i.e. like what NK is under?). Effectively "the World" such as it is saying this country is a danger to all, and must be economically sanctioned. They are not like the Russian situation, where the West (US/EU/G7) has tried to sanction them after the invasion, but many countries still trade with them as normal, or have increased trade in some cases for their own benefits and/or because they are hostile to the countries helping Ukraine defend itself or Russian allies.
That has not happened with NK if that article is correct. Maybe you are right and things have changed since the sanctions on Iraq, and stuff like the consumer grade electronic components [and also likes of CAD and CAM and factory equipment] needed by NK to design and build ballistic missiles and drones are more freely available from more places, but I have doubts and think main difference here vs Iraq's situation may be NKs neighbour, China.

Give me a break. I judge a country by the degree of a ****-hole it is. This is directly proportional to the number of it's citizens who choose to emigrate from said ****-hole.
