maybe Gary Orourke will be practicing 45s, he has the range.
The group of Kerry Meath Monaghan and Louth is probaly the one Cavan would have had a good chance. Without Lynch it will be a uphill task.
Preliminary Quarter finals are silly. A lot of games to eliminate just a few teams.
Wanting more games is what the "small teams" have complained about for years. Once we don't get totally embarrassed and are reasonably competitive in some of the games, I think the format gives a good opportunity to teams looking to improve.
Of course it's probably more benefit to the bigger teams with deeper panels and the scheduling feels a bit cramped and rushed, but that's for another day.
More games is good but the top 2 should go through instead of a play off for a quarter final. That hasn't much benefit as they play in the quarter final the following week
Pretty much and if you have a small squad and pick up injuries, a promising season can turn flat very fast. On the other hand it reduces the chances of dead rubber games in the last round of group fixtures. 6 to 1.
Would Dubs v Cavan in Breffni get 20k of an attendance? Wouldnt that be something great to see.
Bank holiday weekend and a shortish trip down the road for the Dubs you would hope that it would be close to it.
Good boosts to the pubs and restaurants around the town as well.
Virginny be some mess with traffic that day. 🙈
I'd be disappointed if it didn't. Dubs will travel that journey for a day out on bank holiday weekend. Breffni should be near selling out for that. When was the last time we sold the place out?
I seem to remember the league opener in 2017 being around 20,000. It was packed that day (and was probably warmer in February that day than it has been for most of April this year!! )
100% it will be a sell out and if the weather is decent, it will be some occasion, exactly what you want to see in Breffni.
The Dublin players enjoy playing out of Croker. Kilkenny and Paddy Small some of players who said it in recent days. Their supporters always travel in big numbers. They don't get much of a chance as most games during the championship are in Croke Park so it's a novelty for them to be on the road
I was at it but 20k? I wouldn't have thought so. I don't believe Breffni has been sold out for a Cavan match in my lifetime.
Edit, RTE match report said just under 17k at it.
Am I alone in thinking it will be more of a ceremonial occasion than anything? Dublin are probably 2-3 levels above Cavan realistically and we will be 10/1 or 15/1 one going in.
A foregone conclusion doesn't equal a special occasion for me, regardless of the crowd.
We wanted to be in the All Ireland series and not Tailteann, i think that was unanimous among Cavan fans. After that, what are we hoping for? A craic at winning the all Ireland out? I don't think anyone has that on their mind. At best we want to perform, definitely would want a scalp of someone and make the knock out stages.
Of course we would be massive underdogs against the Dubs, but to play the reigning All Ireland champions at home (hopefully under the sun) and see some of the all-time greats go up against our lads- I mean surely that's something that would get a crowd out.
Which would draw a bigger crowd of Cavan fans? Cavan Vs Clare / Meath / Louth / Westmeath or Cavan Vs the Dubs or Kerry. The latter two games we probably wouldn't stand a hope in hell (but it is sport, and you never know…) but I know which one seems like an occasion to me.
Not having a pop at you KTF but to me big games are usually against big teams, and they don't come much bigger than the Dubs. Plus it seems like an age since we played them (I know it's 4 years but none of us got to be there).
Goes to show that maths isn't my strong suit! 😀
I knew it was a big crowd though.
It's definitely preferable to playing in Tailteann, don't get me wrong. I suppose I'm questioning the thought process that the Dubs coming to town will be a "great occasion".
If you packed out Breffni for Cavan v Waterford would it be a great occasion? I know we'll see a few all time greats versus a few of our own but with the Dubs penchant for annihilation and the traffic out, it could be a long evening both figuratively and literally.
I want to see our team up against the best in the country and even better that it is in Breffni.
The crowd, noise and colour that the dubs will bring around the town and in the park will all add to the occasion and should make it a good day out. It's not all about the result as its likely going to be a tough day on the pitch but it would be the same against any of the top seeds.
It's surely a lot better than facing another Ulster team.
So relax and go to the game and enjoy a bit of food and drinks and take your time home.
I heard Paddy Lynch trained with Cavan last Wednesday and trained again the following night with Crosserlough. The Crosserlough manager a Tyrone man ,put the pressure to train with the Club
Ah I dunno, I'm looking forward to it already. You are right, they are levels above, but sure no harm in going at them. They usually don't get it all their own way when they have to go away so you'd hope we can stay with them for a time as they are out of Croker
He should be escorted back to Tyrone.
And I heard he actually did it on the Monday in training. All hearsay.
I believe it was a tactical session, nothing heavy. Innocuous but very unfortunate.
It was reported in the Celt he did it on Thursday, and results Friday. If he had done it Monday, he wouldn't have been able for further training in the week.
I hear you that there is apprehension that the Dubs can and do give many teams a trimming in Sam and what value that has for any team.
I'm thinking back to the Ulster final in 2019. Donegal gave us a trimming. Okay, we got late scores that put a gloss on it but the game was over by half time. It wasn't a contest. But it was an occasion (okay, it was an Ulster final).
An occasion for me isn't just getting a result. It should be a big crowd, colour and sense of a buzz of something different. We've not had that in a while.
This is the youth development process in connacht I was explaining a few weeks back...

i heard on the we are Cavan podcast that Darragh Lovett and Matthew smith and Evan Crowe are brought in to the senior panel.
County players weren’t allowed play with clubs this weekend. My understanding is they had a challenge game, was told the team but can’t recall if it was Clare or Cork.
All hearsay
I'd say Clare had bigger business this weekend than a challenge with Cavan.
Incorrect. County players didn’t play with their clubs so how is it “all hearsay”?
