Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

I’m really surprised he hasn’t visited:
Easier to get to from Dublin than London, just drive up to Larne, ferry over and a short drive to Wigtown. There’s also a fantastic second hand book store at nearby Gatehouse-of-Fleet:
If that were not enough nearby Kirkudbright (pronounced Kirk-coo-bree) is known as Artists town:
Tons of other places to visit from the Logan Garden & Mull of Galloway.
Tubs' gang playing Guns 'n Roses cover of "Live and let die"???
Someone is going to get an earful from Paul McCartney superman Tubs!
You are assuming Tubs would even know that the song Live & Let Die was a Wings song..
and I'm wondering if he even knows who Wings are…
Did he really once say that his favourite Beatles album was The Greatest Hits? of was that just someone in here on the wind up?
That is an Alan Partridge quote, but Tubs is nothing whatsoever like Alan Partridge 😁
Considering his main interest is staying relevant to Irish listeners I can't see him wasting time in Britain on anything that has no obvious connection to Ireland.
it’s a wonder he hasn’t done a pilgrimage to the Mull of Kintyre. Maybe, like my travel companion of decades back when we were in Scotland that that had been a recent hit, he thought it was the Mulligan Tower.
Wouldn't it be terrible if a bit of controversy kicked off and got him cancelled from a job that he doesn't seem to be enjoying? No RAJARs/JNLRs necessary. Then again, he's no J.K Rowling. People have heard of her but not Brian Turbidy.

Maybe Tubbs decided he is going to pay back the barter cash but needs to earn to first, hence the Virgin job, podcast and Evoke.ie column. Once he has the cash together, he'll come back to RTE, pay them back and rehabilitate his profile back on his part-time radio 1 slot.
You're assuming he gets paid for all those.
As a regular poster on thread keeps reminding us he's loaded so he could well be paying for his current exposure to the masses.
Part of the deal with RTE was that he'd pay back the money over the course of his contract. But things didn't work out for him and he ended up in London.
Bit we shouldn't forget that his original statement to the PAC didn't include any proviso that he be retained by RTE in order to repay.
"If the work is not called upon to be done, the money goes back".
A few years back I was setting a Christmas quiz in work, and set up the intros to a few bond songs, my colleague was surprised to hear it and she pipes up "oh "Guns 'n Rose" I didn't know they did a bond song."
Another person with a new book to flog. It seems Tubs' podcast is an audio infomercial. He is the podcast equivalent of your man selling the nutribullets or magic mops on Dave at 2am
What's wrong or unusual about this? Of course, Tubridy's podcast was going to have guests who have something new to plug. You could level the same criticism at just about every arts and light entertainment show going.
Exactly. The real question is why they would think that chatting to one of Ireland’s most hated people would enhance their chances of selling books. It’s a big mistake for anyone to do his podcast. They can’t claim ignorance at a later date.
It’s not like they are making a clever financial decision either as they will have an audience of 200-300 ? And what percentage of that will buy any books ?
Poor poor decision for any author to go anywhere near that podcast.
"The real question is why they would think that chatting to one of Ireland’s most hated people would enhance their chances of selling books."
I doubt that Tubridy is any more one of Ireland's most hated people than he ever was "Ireland's most trusted man"
I’m sure the only reason they are doing this is be because of the tie in with Easons and to get better in store placing and promotion
I am assuming that Eason have a display of each of the books featured each week?
So far though, they are all already very successful authors, so I'm not sure being on with The Bookman will make a whit of difference to their sales.
It's the oddest thing. I'm sure many of us have a couple of interests or casual hobbies that we dip in and out of depending on time/mood etc but we wouldn't in any way try to base our entire identity on them.
I've no doubt Tubs reads the odd bestseller or whatever the latest fad du jour is sweeping the world, but to pretend that he's some kind of bookworm, piles of them stacked like skyscrapers around his house, is just ridiculous.
Boyne is not flavour of the month himself.
it’s like when Marty did the washing powder ads as part of his purgatory
Not a bad analogy
Don't forget his frequent Twitter spats with the Auschwitz museum.
Not a great look.
I really think we need to re-write this bit of purgatory that Marty Whelan found himself in. How long did this purgatory last. He was presenting a daytime show, in 1992 he was present a talent show for RTÉ and BBC NI, and he also had a prime time chat show by 1993.
1989 - Where in the World
1989 - 1991 - Century Radio Breakfast show
1992 - Go For It for RTÉ and BBC NI
1993 - Off the Record (prime time RTÉ chat show)
1994 - 12 to 1 (Daytime TV)
Also I like Marty Whelan but this is a bit of BS.
I'd imagine it gets them a prominent display in Eason.
Nothing like throwing your production team under the bus.
Didn't he also say something about Anderson being "Bent over on her knees". Implying BJs.
Listen, he had his former bosses boss on the show. He admitted he was told by higher ups to look out for RT. You can belive me or not. It happened.
There is no easily searchable list of guests on the show. Otherwise I would find it for you.
To be frank with you. I have more issues with Boyne, then I do with RT.
appreciate the education. 👍When I was 21 I wasn’t following the Marty’s career as closely and missed out on all his daytime tv stuff. I think the general preconception that he was banished totally is obviously not true but certainly Rte radio wouldn’t touch him for years after defecting to Century!
