Imagine the anecdote Romney told about strapping a dog to the roof of his car cost him a few votes in suburbs in particular. The Trump team can't afford to bleed even more support in that demographic. So imagine there would be one or two high up the ladder with a bit of intelligence (not necessarily true believers) that would see the pooch slayer as an alarmingly bad choice and speak up about it.
But, 'grab 'em' was about women. MAGA and the bulk of the GQP could give a rats about women, heck, they're rabidly anti-women in policy and actions.
But, their dogs, that's a different story. And a gun dog! And a puppy!
I think she's done, she'll be Dogshooter Noem forever. Amazingly stupid thing to write, the goat story might've been enough with embellishment on how she agonized over it but the goat was too dangerous to her kydz, yadda yadda.
In the GOP of yesteryear, I’d agree, you’d have higher-ups scrambling to try to fix this PR Nightmare. However, we’re now in the age of the “Lara Trump giving all of the cash to Donald and to hell with moderate voters - GOP” who I expect is now a headless reactionary party who have left their respective candidates to their own devices (so long as they support the Dear Leader). As long as Donnie doesn’t feel the need to chime in, I don’t think Nome is going to face too much push back from any higher-ups in the GOP, because I think they’re mostly gone…
True there seems to be an all in approach taken. Still imagine quite a bit of noise can be made and advantage taken by other camps interested in the VP position. If you see a lot of photos of Tim Scott or Elise Stefanik with dogs soon, don't be too surprised.
it’ll be hilarious when Scott posts new pictures with him and a dog before him and his “fiancé”
Very true. His bride to be might be more camera shy than his labradoodle.
If a dog starts killing animals for pleasure (this dog apparently killed several chickens one after the other) and then turns on a human it isn't unusual for it to be put down. It would happen anywhere. The RSPCA have to do it too sometimes.
Only a small child would struggle to understand this.
again, it wasn’t the paying a girl hush money, it was the business record fraud to cover up paying a girl hush money.

Most people don't do this in a fit of pique, though. The dog gave plenty of warning it was a problem. "There are no problem dogs, only problem owners." And, then to dump it in a quarry somewhere. Nasty.
The episode with the chickens was due to Noem's failure to restrain the dog (probably another crime in SD.)
Dog could've been rehomed, trained by a professional trainer, whatever. And, fun fact, Noem might be in violation of SD's animal cruelty laws, too. Woot.
The killing of the chickens was due to her being a **** owner tbh. She knew it wasn't trained to be off lead. Her immediate response wasn't to kill it in a humane way, it was to bring it to the gravel pit and shoot it. Then she killed a goat straight after. (Cause it smelled bad apparently) She didn't even prepare her daughter for putting the dog down. So by the sounds of it, it had less to do with a dangerous dog and more to do with an incompetent owner. Also she didn't seem to give a **** about the dog or goat tbh.
And I've known people who have had to had dogs put down because they were dangerous. None of them off would have talked about it the way she did.
Also, it's not exactly shocking that a dog specifically bred to kill birds ended up killing birds...
Isn't necessarily a "fit of pique". I've known owners who immediately put down a dangerous dog more or less on the spot, to be safe.
Don't disagree with all of what you're saying but that's not what necessarily the controversy is about. The shock value of the story is that Noem Killed a Dog!!!
The Guardian story quoted denunciations from a number of conservatives, like Meghan McCain as saying the Noem "murdered a puppy" and another conservative pundit saying that killing the dog was "twisted".
Ultimately putting down a dangerous dog is not twisted or even unusual regardless of what led up to it. It's unfortunate but these things happen.
Looks to me that these American so-called "conservatives" are stuck at a childhood level of thinking. I think they may have watched All Dogs Go to Heaven on re-repeat too many times (A good cartoon film admittedly).
And just the fact that Noem didn't like the dog and cry over it is neither here nor there. Does it matter at all?
It was a puppy though, stop pretending it was a fully grown dog. It was only 14 months old. I'm sure it's making you feel somehow better about this, but it was still at an age that it could have learned new behaviour from a good owner.

Due to their naturally strong will, this breed benefits from an experienced trainer; they need firmness and consistency throughout their training to be shown who holds the authority. As the wirehaired pointers don’t reach full maturity until around 2 years of age, it’s important to begin training as early as possible.
To me though, it reeks of how Republicans deal with problems. Put it down, and move on, no need for empathy here!
It matters here in the sense of her being a possible running mate for Donnie and that although MAGA cultists might enjoy the idea of her being a gun-toting outdoors-woman, there are many out there who won’t like the idea of shooting a puppy, regardless of cause. So it matters in this discussion with regards of Donnie picking her to run with him (or not, as a result of this)
Frankly I think this increases her chances. Couple this with her whole “God-fearing mother” stick (while allegedly having affairs) and endorsing Texas dental clinics among other things, she’s exactly the kind of corrupt and superficial character that Donnie would go for.
And frankly I feel he should pick her. Then there would be no ambiguity at all of what the Trump ticket was about.
Wtf?
I just said it wasn't unusual for a dangerous dog to be put down. I wasn't "pretending" it was a particular age/type of dog.
Of course one can second guess the decision to put down a particular dog yet dogs get put down all the time.
In the Guardian story I read most of the people angry that Noem didn't cry over this dog like Marc Anthony crying over the murdered Caesar were conservative Republicans.
I consider it a non-story but blaze with indignation if you like.
The dog was not trained and she let it off lead. That was a bad owner, particularly since it's a dog that is known for hunting birds. The fact she then decided to kill a goat straight after just makes her seem a bit odd to say the least.
Well, you call it a dog, constantly. Do you call children men and women or boys and girls?
It's a puppy. Describing it as a dangerous dog is inaccurate.
Do you think animal abuse in general is a non-story, or is just where conservatives kill them?
Which in itself is a misdemeanor, however the DA's case that it was done to influence an election, which is a federal crime
I think that your comment is reasonable but the tweet you posted isn't.
Ron Filipowski, another conservative Republican child, posts a photo of the dog (proving nothing other than that it looks cute and sweet in this photo) and says it was "murdered".
Very immature or perhaps pure cynical.
Many news headlines called it a dog also.
I didn't realise referring to a puppy as a dog was some kind of category error.
Kk, so let's go back to the fact she killed a 14 month old dog that wasn't at full maturity. It also wasn't trained and this resulting in the deaths of chickens, isn't surprising. That doesn't equate to it being a dangerous dog. All of this reflects on the owner more than the dog.
Showing aggressive tendencies at 14 months, like I said it's not that unusual for it be put down. Undoubtedly some vets would try other things, medication maybe or you could neuter it and put in a shelter. There are vets who would declare "untrainable" and put down though. That's sad but it happens.
You weren't there so you can't guarantee it wasn't dangerous.
To cry murder and create a scene is way overblown. It's a part of some sort of intra-conservative feud apparently as it's mainly Republicans doing this.
Opening boards.ie and see someone defending the shooting of a puppy
I've seen people defend genocide. This does not surprise me.
Peak boards 2024
The puppy was probably woke to boot.
Trump has a playground behavior of giving childish names to his opponents. In kind, what name could be given to Trump if locked up for contempt a night or two? Jailbird Trump? If so, he would probably make a picture of himself mad while grasping jail bars, have it screened on a T-shirt and sell it to his adoring mob for some outrageous price.
We do have the details she provided and the fact she decided to kill another animal straight after. In fact, we have lots pointing at irresponsible owner more than dangerous dog. So we can work off the facts she gave. And if I were telling that story about myself, I'd be providing as much info as possible to present myself in a positive light...
Lest we forget, Noem's being mooted as a potential VPOTUS. P**s her off, Bang!
I'm defending it as "not unusual" (some vets would do it) which it just isn't.
To even mention something like genocide in the same sentence... can people not place their sentimental feelings about cute pets into some kind of detached adult perspective?
