The suppliers of the RVMs blaming down time on people not being able to use them properly.
Let me speak for everyone, fúck off ye absolute melts.
More like a police state every day, except we don't have any police to crack down. The idea that LA staff will be charged with patrolling retailers now to check for compliance and issuing fines is typical of our new leaders. If the same LAs actually had done their work in providing & emptying proper bins, we'd be far better off.
The whole scheme is out of order!
These comments from people in charge like 'we knew there would be teething problems' bug the **** out of me. Every problem potentially stops someone from getting their own money back. If they knew there would be problems they should have put something in place to negate them as much as possible by insisting on manual returns when a machine was out of order, at least during the bedding in period. They had ages to plan for this sort of thing and those sort of comments show the contempt they have for the general public.
Hilarious to think how many times it was stated on here Re-Turn is the same scheme as elsewhere.
Our lads have every angle/penny covered. World champion gombeens.
Yep in Denmark they have to do this. Probably encourages retailers to keep the machines in good working order as much as possible.

What happens if the reverse vending machine does not work? Stores must continue to refund the deposits manually if a reverse vending machine is out of service. Contact a store employee.

Another interesting aspect of the Danish scheme is that they are required to transfer a portion of unclaimed deposits to the State rather than keep all the loot.
That's a spectacularly indicative story. Thanks.
..
If they had the fancy €5000 fine for any item being sold that the fee was taken on but barcode had not been uploaded for all the machines to recognise the scheme would have run smoother.
Would that be the same county councils that don't enforce dog fouling, or general littering?
https://www.thejournal.ie/dog-fouling-fines-dublin-city-council-6316621-Mar2024/
From the Minister, "“On June 1, it’s actually illegal to sell a drink which doesn’t have a Re-turn logo,” Mr Smyth said. “The people in charge of enforcing that are the local authorities. It will be their job to go into the shops, looking on the shelves and seeing if there’s anything with no logo on.”
More work for the County Councils who rather than policing these rouge shops would be better off using the man hours to
actually police littering, you know like a litter warden! 😊
"He also acknowledged there was an issue with containers being rejected.
Mr Smyth said this was mainly because non-eligible bottles and cans were still being sold, and people were mistakenly trying to return them."
In other words, its not our fault, the public are just thick.
Presiding over this clusterfcuk and coming out with that statement, which is an obvious lie to most people who've tried this scheme. Either ignorance or arrogance, im not sure which.
I see also local authorities will be responsible to go into premises to check no non return stuff is being sold. Do we have Soda Police now? Pop cops!
Rave reviews for the new scheme, lol…
I have worked for companies in the past, who could spend money like it was going out of fashion. None of them not-for-profits, admittedly, but if you have an almost unlimited budget there is any number of ways to waste/spend money.
Irish Water did it. Hot Yoga during office hours. On site gym before they started actually fixing (or trying to )the water.
A company I worked in, I would say they were guilty of having access to too much money. They bought a SIEM, security information and event monitor system for about 10 million. Except there was one device type on the network the 1st SIEM could not monitor/understand. Instead of putting 10 programmers or engineers in a room and saying "build us a solution", they bought a second SIEM. SIEM number 2 could understand that device type (another 5 Million). But SIEM number 2 could not talk to SIEM number 1. Again, instead of putting 10 programmers or engineers in a room and saying "build us a solution", they bought a 3rd SIEM(5 Million) which could talk to the first two.
Result: Everything is being monitored and it only cost 20 Million.
I gotta say - this is of course random and anecdotal - but the machines seem to be down half the time at least
Yes, it's one or the other but apparently there is no obligation to revert to manual if the RVM is out of order.
Someone said back on the thread that in another country they have to go manual if the machine breaks.
Hmm, looking at the site it says using the RVM or manually - there is no distinction of one or the other
Is there a specific T&C/legislation excusing the store from manual return if they have a RVM - maybe time to start demanding refunds when the machine is broke
Not if they have an RVM.
Unsurprisingly manual return seems to be unpopular with retailers.
Probably due to space and staffing issues.
They would need a segregated area in the store and probably a full time staff member to handle the returns.
To be fair I dont actually know for sure. I just assume they wont.
I'm pretty sure this to be the case though. I mentioned the 'off' machine a couple of times when standing at the till with a full bag of empties and wasnt offered anything other than a shrug.
Do the shops not have to take manual returns as well?
Starting to get fed up with this.
Have a large canvas bag where all the bottles/cans go in. Bring it with me when heading to the shops. Today was the 4th time in a row I'm bringing it back home with all the stuff still in it. Those machines are just not up to it. Shops should be forced to accept them manually when the machines are down. As in have an actual person with a handscanner or something I dont care. Fed up ferrying empyty bottles around.
Only some producers. Definitely not the English brewery that made the logo-but-unregistered cans I got.
Scheme operator board consists of members of the bottling and producers-so scheme operator = prodcuers!
Pretty hard for the scheme operator to cover for producer incompetence. And there's been plenty of that. Stuff going out with logos and the barcode isn't registered meaning it can't get a refund is another one I've had myself.
Strange all right but normal enough for this fecked up scheme. Pack certainly seemed perfect and unaltered.
That's a strange one.
Was the packaging on the multi pack intact ?
About the only way that could happen is if a can got burst and someone stuck in an odd one to replace it.
Bad form whoever did it.
Thanks - we actually used them before for filling fire extinguishers at work. Not thought of asking them about sodastream… Keep in mind there are different grades of co2 - industrial is 99.5% pure - food needs to be 99.9% - and no sulphur, benzene or ammonia etc. allowed in it…. https://www.co2meter.com/blogs/news/co2-purity-grade-charts Lots of adapters out there for filling yourself if you can get a big bottle of gas - but not tried it myself… eg. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006305970517.html
Random Vending Machine
Robbery Vending Machine
Rejection Vending Machine
Rage Vending Machine
Still waiting to get a perfect score at the RVM. Today, went with 8 cans, purchased as a multi pack on Tuesday. One can rejected, upon closer examination no return logo WTF. And in case you are thinking I grabbed the wrong can, my bin day was Tuesday, all recycling went into the bin. There was not an empty can in the house. So they scam me out of of another €0.15
Correct that there is no mechanism to return profits but those profits can be used to run the scheme and reduce the amount producers have to pay to fund the scheme. Heaven forbid the deposit would be reduced but they were clever enough to put that amount in the legislation. Either way the producer wins.
