I don't know. With the way drone technology is quickly advancing Spain could be attacked from drones launched thousands of miles away.

Well, there's a shocker. 🤔😁
And I love how Russia points at Boris Johnson of all people. The same Johnson, who speaks Russian BTW, who had so many dodgy contacts with Russian emigres in his own country and abroad when he was the UK foreign secretary, his own country's intelligence services in a very rare move publicly pointed them out and his and his party's Kremlin links were widely reported at the time.

He even elevated one of his Russian buddy's son to the UK peerage.

Anyway not that you actually care. Do you really think people here are stupid enough not to see what you're doing? You're nothing more than a cliche that's been played out a thousand times on this thread before. You'll be removed soon and another will take your place. Because that's literally the only things Russia and their apologists are truly talented at. Spreading sh*te.
Quite. Russian external spin - and it's been very good at this - is to appeal to fringe groups in the West. The "do your own research!" brigade on Arsebook and Twatter who watch Fox etc. Put it this way; if you bump into a general conspiracy type online or off, it's a near cast iron guarantee they're a newly minted Russia supporter.
The gameplay is to fire out lots of narratives, keep them simplistic, rarely follow up on them and never answer the direct knotty questions, memory hole narratives on a generally monthly basis(unless they keep traction, EG Boris stopped poor Russia's peace plans/why aren't your governments spending all this money on you!), fire out new narratives. Rinse and repeat. It's inconsistency is its consistency and feature. It's a tweak on both the Kremlin's Cold War 1 spin and its internal spin too. Lots of narratives to confuse, save for Putin appearing consistent so you can trust him y'know. The internet has been a major boon for them. The Global Village where you can mould the Village Idiots to your cause.
OK, here's a few direct related questions for you: How many died, Ukrainian and Russian in the Donbas war, between 2014 and 2021? How many died in 2021? How many have died, Ukrainian and Russian in this "SMO"? How many have died in this "SMO" in this last month, week, day?
Can you answer this, or is it not on your cheat sheet?
They go to Ukraine to meet Baba Yaga.
would you stop. If people in Ireland have pressing official business with the Russian govt its important to have the means within reach, not over in Croatia or Finland. Over half a continent away.
What pressing official business would anyone have with a criminal regime that is more sanctioned than North Korea?
No need to jump to extreme strawmen conclusions either, I did not say cut relations but scale them way down and funnel them via a single EU embassy, last I checked my passport says “European Union” right above “Eire, Ireland” on it
Btw if one needs to send a message to Russia send a donation to United24, those guys deliver messages to russia in innovative ways every day
Finally why get so agitated and worked up about the news that Russia is gonna stop offering embassy services to Russians? Is it fear that now redundant nonspying members of the large embassy in Ireland will be re tasked from cushy online campaigning to having to join their brothers in ditches and mud of Ukraine?
I suspect nothing. Anyone would be mad to go to Russia now if they have ever uttered a word against Putin or the war. All it takes is Russian security to hack your personal data see a critical post on boards or some other platform and in no time at all you could be arrested on terrorism charges or similar and Irish government is helpless
They only need a tiny embassy and a couple of staff. Sure, aren't they used to qeueing? They love a good queue does your average Russian.
That didn’t take long, Spain to send Patriot missiles
You do not even have to have uttered or otherwise indicated you are not in favour of the war, or even worse, much worse, in favour of Putin as President. They will have a nice criminal code Nr to charge you with. And you will plead "Guilty" to the charge (or charges) They have an extremely high conviction rate in Russia, guilty or not. Think back a bit to the Crocus terrorist attack, and see how quick Russian justice works….

Ideally we'd strip them of citizenship with the added benefit of increasing the average IQ of Irish citizens.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/hundreds-of-planes-are-stuck-in-russia-b2520091.html
Published 28/Mar/24.
Ireland is/was one of the worlds top locations for aviation leasing, and here we see billions of euros worth of aviation assets effectively held by Russias regime.
So sanctions and war aside here we see an example of the potential necessity for continued diplomatic relations with that regime, whether one particularly likes it or not.
Irish citizens live in Russia, and Russian citizens live in Ireland, dual citizens and the parents of dual citizens live in both. Who knows what personal and legal circumstances any of these innocent bystanders are in which may require interaction between the citizens and the govts, or between both govts.
Advice may be needed on legal issues related to marriage, divorce, custody, travel visas and/or restrictions, injury or deaths in the other country, legal and tax responsibilities, court cases, rulings and land ownership. Maybe even something simple like a lost passport, or bejng stranded. The two business communities in both jurisdictions will also have a similar long list of reasons for potentially needing to access a consulate/embassy.
People in need of accessing their embassy may not be in the kind of situation which would allow them to travel back and forth to another country. So this nonsense about having one embassy on a tour of Europe is just completely impractical and stupid.
You dont actually have to like Russia in any way to see the practicalities here. Also theyre not really going to give a small shyte if we evict/move them, beyond maybe doing the same back to us, potentially fcking over Irish citizens in the process.
It would be a pointless, self destructive, foolish thing to do. Petty and stupid, the geo-political equivalent of unfollowing a business on twitter.
its a suggestion which reminds me of crips not using words with the letter B, or walking near anything red. Just a dumb idea. Born out of petulence and desperation to be seen to hate the bad guys more than anyone else. Get real.
I dont particularly care if they are downsized. Dont see much benefit in doing that, but no objection either.
Probably end up with Irish people queuing just as much. Foot shooting exercise but be my guest.
Those planes are not coming back any time soon, and as someone with plane experience mentioned earlier in thread, that they were being repaired in uncertified manner and parts are possibly death traps now and literally worthless
What these companies will instead do is lay claims for the value of these planes against the 300bn that was seized from Russia alongside other countries and companies hurt by Russian illegal colonial war
Neither does your example require Russians to continue to maintain an embassy here, if anything we should have kicked most of them out for this theft and made these lads walk back to Russia with a little bell attached to them and a priest behind them chanting “shame, shame”
ok and everything else I mentioned?
Dual citizens, custody, visas, court rulings.
Just ignore that, dig in, and refuse logic.
Double down on some pie in the sky nonsense about the Russian embassy on a European tour with UB40 as a support act. Die on this hill.
ffs.
Someone higher up had an eloquent and concise response
Abrams taking a beating it seems. Amazing how drone warfare has taken front and centre in this war.
https://english.nv.ua/nation/ukraine-loses-five-abrams-tanks-in-two-months-the-new-york-times-50411899.html#:~:text=Russian%20forces%20have%20taken%20out,senior%20U.S.%20official%20told%20NYT.
Ah yeah.
Exactly. The defenses haven't caught up with the offensive drone development yet. In principle, a drone can be easily destroyed by an automatically targeted machine gun. But that means that you need small AA machine gun system with its own targeting radar for every several tanks or , say, 200m of trenches.
That's why I think Russia are using the turtle tanks seems to be giving a bit of cover for them against drones, saw video other day of one been used and about 4 Russians apc's behind it, they managed to get into middle of the town centre and unload the Russian soldiers. I know people were laughing at the Russians having these but they do seem to be helping them.
It's not that amazing when you consider the price to performance ratio. You could buy a drone off of Amazon for thirty quid which would be good enough for basic recon. Spend a little more and you can get one which would be able to drop a grenade. The range and capabilities increase as you spend more. Their availability, versatility and agility even at the consumer level, never mind the heavier duty stuff which militaries have, means that they're the weapon de jure until some equally cheap and continually effective way of neutralising them emerges. Drone tech and anti-drone tech must be the most rapidly changing aspect of the Ukraine war.
Yep. Tank safety may need a whole design by all countries. We've seen the turret Olympics when it comes to Russian tanks popping off when hit.
This war has proven the age of drones is here.
Drones may mean the end of the tank as we know it.
A great opportunity was missed after the Iranian attack on Israel to take out the drone capacity of Russian ally Iran, its main drone and missile supplier now . Much to Russian relief.
Europeans and America should have provided every assistance , encouragement to do that and more. Instead every push back against Russian friends in Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, Iran is often opposed.
Drones are the new reality and the fight in Ukraine as part of a multi faceted war is the old reliable.
They were also saying that the old Russian tanks were being used to fire old shells, a cheap throw away mobile gun.
I'd be curious if people are developing defensive drones. Why send a million dollar missile to intercept a drone when an equally cheap drone would do. It would probably be hard to get a radar that powerful, small and cheap but maybe laser guided drones.
I'm sure in defense companies it's an exciting time. Obviously not for those on the receiving end though.
It's pretty incredible and also frightening when you think about it. I know it's been said before but you do wonder how close we are to a major terrorist attack in a western capital using drones (besides the attacks on Kyiv). It's going to be very interesting to see how this is guarded against by security services going forward.
Christmas lights year round.
To match the planters.
Really though, I cant see any defense once theyre at the launch phase.
Only external intel work, and stopping radicals from entering the country as illegal immigrants in the first place might help. And thats not allowed because its mean.
Meanwhile, back to the spate of Russians in top positions getting arrested, some possible explanations are appearing, linking them to Prigozhins demise:-
Then after Putin had Prigozhin killed for the rebellion, Ivanov, with Shoigu's blessing, sent a significant team (Redut PMC) from the MoD to Africa and started to systemically steal Prigozhin's assets there including gold mines and oil & gas fields.12:03 PM · Apr 26, 2024·2,058 Views
