I'm not sure if the F16's have the armaments to take down a glide bomb. Technically, yes, it's possible to shoot down glide bombs, but its particularly challenging. Much better to go after the plane that's carrying the bomb and hit it before it launches. You would be talking about a plane with over the horizon radar, and having long range missiles.
Where's the harm in it?
Remind me again why we let em have an embassy here?
Not stop. But depending on the armaments and reach of their radars, push the planes that are dropping them way back from the frontline.
Russian planes are dropping these things roughly 40 miles from the frontline. So if the F-16s can reach out beyond 40 miles and maybe a bit extra to avoid air defense in the occupied territories themselves then that should have a pretty immediate stabilising effect on the front line.
Equally i feel like these things in the first few months - 1 year of their deployment will be used as a mobile air defense. Shooting down cruise missiles and drones. But equally that would free up patriots and other systems to be used for setting ambushes for Russian aircraft like they did before.
Although just a word of warning. These things aren't super weapons. Just like the Leopards and the Bradleys. I'm fully expecting the first significant piece of news about the F-16s to surface will be about one being shot down or caught on an airstrip by a missile. Just be prepared.
Sure here you go
That's the thing about authoritarian regimes. They cannot tolerate any dissent because it could grow.
People need to know their place. And they need to know that if they step out of line, they will be punished.
Additionally, in any authoritarian regime, everything that is wrong is wrong because of someone else. There's the enemy outside and the enemy inside. And the place would be a perfect utopia if it wasn't for those guys. That's why authoritarians always point the finger. It doesn't matter what time they are in or what country, there's always an enemy inside. It could be capitalists, jews, liberals, lgbt+ people, etc…. There's always someone to blame.
Will F16s be able to stop the glide bombs?
We need from frontline good news soon. Situation in the Eastern sector and Southern front has been fairly horrific last 24hours. UAF loosing ground quite rapidly.
ah, coo-cooshenko and his stories.
Biden and Co at the weekend

More good news hopefully. Seems like Greece didn't take their Prime minister nearly being blown up lightly.

i misunderstood you, I thought you meant that by not hitting certain targets, Putin might not respond so harshly. But yes, the more he fires now, the less there will be to fire later on. And of course the quicker new air defence is put in place, and the airports and launch sites taken out the better.
Recently, Putin has been concentrating 100% on civilian targets, and infrastructure. He's been dropping 1500 and 3000 kg glide bombs on them. If he had even heavier bombs, he would use them too. And he's not going to stop either, because he knows that his time to do this is limited and when Ukraine begins using the new weapons they will soon receive, a lot of his launch sites will be put out of action. So, I'd say, go ahead and take down the bridge on or before the 9th of may, if possible. But take it down anyway ASAP. The level of danger to civilians is not going to change.
Biden has started the groundwork for FY25 package

Ink is not even dry on the FY24 and already the administration has begun flying the kites for continued long term support. Well done Biden
Anyways a very catchy song for your morning coffees 😂
I never said it was I merely commented on the outcome which proves Ukraine should do it. The missiles Russia wastes like this the better.
This is positive. Shame on Scholz for again ruling out Taurus delivery. Ukraine has shown time and again that they use these weapons responsibly
I certainly wouldn't target it until there was significant improvement in air defence. Otherwise your putting civilians in even higher levels of danger than necessary.
Not taking a certain course of action because it might offend Putin, is not the way to deal with him. He attacks whatever he wants to attack, and he'll keep doing that until he's stopped. And he has to be stopped, it's the only way and the sooner the better!
Blowing up the bridge has already proven Putin's response is to fire as many cruise missiles as he can out of anger.
I don't know if those missiles are enough to destroy the bridge, nor do I even know the strategic value in doing so, but I do know that few things seem to anger Putin more than his precious Crimean bridge being targeted and hit, so there could be value in going at it just for that reason if there's a good opportunity. I mean, it would be a finely balanced decision because it could make Putin mad enough to make a rash unwise order, or it could just make him conscript a load more troops and launch a blitz of missiles strikes. One for the Ukrainian top brass, if they get the right toys…
Yes, he will!! And another positive effect might be to remind him that if his bridge can be destroyed, he is not immortal either!!
Yes, and especially it was carrying a fully loaded train at the time? (assuming that is still capable of carrying trains?)
He'll throw his toys out of the pram.
By toys I mean critics, and pram I mean windows.
I'd love to see the railway section collapsed.
Its much more than a bridge to Putin..Ukraine is blowing up ammo factorys, Refineries and all manner of military targets, and Putin is not happy about it but he accepts it, however the Kerch Bridge is personal. This was supposed to be one of his crowning achievements. He will be very upset when that bridge comes down ,, inconsolable in fact, I'd say.
It’s not pettiness. It’s actually the very crux of authoritarianism and oppression, its dark beating heart. Human decency, courage and dignity have to be targeted, punished and stamped out. Everyone has to be either completely docile/corrupted, or in prison/dead. There is no other way for such a regime to function. The majority of sheep have to be too scared to even look sideways. All the best stories from the USSR or GDR (to name just two regimes out of a myriad……) are about that and only that, in the final analysis.
@buzzerxx threadbanned
Are ATACMS powerful enough to hit knock the Kerch bridge out of action? Would you need a cuise missile with the trajectory to hit the supports?
The bridge isn't nearly as important anymore after Russia built new railway lines Ukraine might be better off targeting elsewhere.
Anyone who uses the word 'sheeple' should be pitied IMO.
