I've been saying this for a few years now, but I wasn't expecting the CEO of a major car maker not just to silenty accept this reality, let alone going on the record to say it. Not for at least another year when this will be very obvious to all but those with their head deep in the sand

Please list them.
Short trips always use more battery (and diesel and petrol) than long trips. There's a higher overhead per km for things like warming up the car and battery and then the types of roads and traffic typically encountered in those trips. Driving style as well will have an effect. But this is pretty much the same story with the ICE. Even more so arguably.
I don’t know why anyone would want to go back to filling up at smelly dirty petrol stations.
Could you try doing some public charges when you don’t need it just to ease the anxiety there?
I haven't had any battery issues. Of course it looses 25 percent range from November to march but otherwise no issues. My wife won't charge it at all. She only drives around Dublin and with 450 plus km range night time 3 hour charging at 5.5 cents is more than enough to keep us going. Probably do 10 long journeys a year and maybe only 4 or 5 where I need to use public chargers. Have gone to Scotland and England twice and no real challenges. Have a two week trip in the summer and I'm tempted to bring our ice.. just so I don't have to think about charging..I'm hoping with most of the Tesla network open in the UK to all cars should be able to figure it out.
Who are you with that your getting 5.5 cents for the 3hrs, I take it its 5.5 a Kwh
Pinergy.. would only really recommend if you have battery storage and can cover your house load outside of cheap tariff
very few

See above for several, and I am sure there are many more
I've asked this question fir years. Motoring is highly unsustainable, why is motor tax nearly free on all good cars, its as food as free... its totally insane. Need new motor tax system. Doubled for eV minimum and increased 4 fold petrol and 5 fold for diesel....
Because the tax is already high on the fuel in the case of Petrol and Diesel, plus to make it equitable considering there is no excise on electricity if you are seeking a 4 to 5 fold increase on Petrol & diesel ( not that they have separate rates) you would need a ten fold increase on EV.
I'm going to have a closer look at her car over the weekend. We will take it on a long drive today. It's charged to 100% now and displaying 231 miles so it will be interesting to see if she's right about the battery or she's just driving it aggressively.
v10s 😂 the merc.is mahbe the only one you'll see on the roads
Edgy.
Would congestion charges not apply to all vehicles and not just ICE.
I think by 2030 the focus will be more on forcing people into public transport and all private vehicles will be penalised for going into congested areas.
You have never seen a BMW 540d?
I've seen a 640d never a 540d and they had less than 500lbs of torque. 540d only has 320 bhp aswell, surprised at that.
Anyway see how many are for sale on carzone to see how common they are.
Sounds like any middle income estate in Ireland really. Power to the Joe Public. The Q7 V12 models had 737lb ft of torque if you were a bit better off.
I don’t think we got the 540d here. My 535d had 500 ft. ibs after a remap. My M50d the same. The 640d is only 313bhp Cyrus mentions and doesn’t hit the 500 figure for torque. The 640d same. My brothers X5 40d the same. So yes, many cars have this magic 500 figure after some work or else you spend 100k plus
I personally don’t see the point you’re trying to make with this d1ck measuring posting about torque figures that the average Joe cares nothing about.
Is your beef with new cars or EV’s? Based on your posts in a specific EV forum, it’s hard to figure that out 🤔
FYI, I did not start the torque thing, I only replied to it, it was an EV owner doing the Mickey waving.
Boards.ie is not an EV forum the last time I checked, I believe I am free to read and post in any thread.
My irk is with some EV owners blinkered view that you will automatically save money by buying an EV, you might, you might not, it is entirely situational dependent.
You certainly can not ignore the depreciation cost in any vehicle purchase, that is part of the cost of ownership.
Claiming that there are no servicing costs is another, that is codswallop, start from the ground, tyres, brakes, bearings, bushes, balljoints, CV joints, bushes, springs, shocks, track rod end, track rods, bump stops, top mounts, brake lines, Flexi lines, onto fluids, brake fluid, coolant, checking these things are part of a service, this applies equally regardless of the power plant.
well if you keep comparing the cost of a new car (any new car) to your old car that you service yourself you'll be irked for a long time to come I'd imagine.
Not impossible you have a bad cell. Measure not just the range but how much kw it takes to fill the battery.
Range anxiety is also a thing. Like any new thing, if you never do long trips it's going to be added stress until you do it a few times. It will take a few trips to get familiar with the range of the vehicle and the charging stops.
Some people do not enjoy trying new things or just the EV charging thing. Or tried it and didn't love it.
Yes but your silly comments comparing the cost of an old banger to buying a brand new car is, well, silly.
What you see as an old banger I see as an environmentally friendly alternative to a new car, one of my cars there were only 500 built in RHD about 13% of them still exist, but sure to you it is an old banger, yet funny enough you will pay more for a good one than the retail price 30 years ago.
I will not be Irked, as I'm not losing money, but it Irks that people claim to be saving money, but they really are not.
It is like the Fr Ted quote, running the gas off the electricity and the electricity off the gas to save a fortune.
look some of us want a modern safe car and not to be driving an older one so much. Here we have a 14 year old Audi as the second car. It’s fine but it’s definitely nowhere near as safe as the 2021 car.
Did some calculations and based on a fuel price of 1.50 and electricity of 15 cents with 80000 km we have saved over 7000 on fuel in three years. And tbh the average cost of diesel was higher and of electricity was lower. We were paying 7 c night rate the first 2 years with the car. Besides tyres it hasn’t cost us much else. The costs are very predictable. And you also don’t have to take a day or two off to get to NCT centre.
Not every one wants to drive an Austin Princess as a daily.
I might be saving money holding on to a black and white TV instead of buying a HDR Wall sized TV. Sounds like it's not making you happy though.
Same here. Old ICE as a second car. Hardly use it since getting an EV.
I had the opportunity to try her car over a long journey and my belief is that the media is influencing her. I noticed no deterioration in her car since I last drove it.
