Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

That "Senior Hurling" quote from him really sticks in my craw. It was a massive kick in the teeth to RTE, who he conned into paying him undeserved megabucks. When he "left" RTE, he didn't go "senior", he went to "junior" and is about to go "underage", imo.
Ouch, the Irish Indo review of Tubs's podcast gets the whole of page 3 today.
Having said that, even a negative review in the Indo might still get him more listeners than he might otherwise have. No such thing as bad publicity and all that.
Would it though?
Anyone who wanted to have followed him, but his old tv and radio slots have increased viewership since his departure.
I'd imagine within the media there's no love lost for someone who couldn't appreciate how good they had in an era when the patience of the public is wearing thin for the pampered lifestyle of the Montrose untouchables.
What have the stonecutters got to do with my orginal post?
Slave to professionalism that I am, I will decline to comment on the first episode until I can summon up the willpower to watch it on Youtube this week. But after reading some comments here, I had to check out the first few minutes to see Tubridy fall at the first hurdle with his introductory word for word reading from an A4 sheet, with all the interest and zeal of a schoolboy forced to read a page from his textbook in front of the class.
He actually began to speed up through it and almost resorted to saying "Yada, yada, yada, etc, etc …….DAVID WALLIAMS, Welcome!"
Walliams looked bemused and told him the intro was a touch too long and Tubridy retorted "Yes, I'm exhausted myself and we haven't even got to the first book!" - in a slightly peevish, Partridge manner I thought, which implied "Yes yes, you're big deal aren't you. Woop de doo. Now, lets get on with this so I can get out of here!" 😁
Actually looking forward to it a small bit now!
Maybe Tubs was hoping for some higher calibre guest, like Hilary Clinton, Obama or some of the Kennedy's, and not someone who some of us reckon is Jimmy Saville's replacement in the BBC.
Next week on the podcast…
… Judge Martin Nolan
And the Burke's.
Well all but one of them.
Word is that somebody named Dee Forbes is due to present her childhood books: -
Call me cynical but I can help but think that this podcast was put out now to provide plausible deniability when he gets shitcanne…I mean he parts ways with virgin radio as he “wanted to focus on my passion project, my podcast.”
I reckon it was something he'd planned doing before he was booted out of Montrose.
But he probably planned doing it thinking he'd have a cushy 1 hour broadcast a day in RTe, record it from the comfort of his own home and living off (possibly) twice the salary he's on now… yikes.
When Tubs was in RTE, never in a million years would he lower himself to get involved in a podcast.
He'd also have been horrified about the prospect of just providing filler between tunes in a highly formulaic set list, which is what he is doing at Virgin.
Even watching him having to say on the podcast that you can get overnight delivery with Eason if you order before 6pm and then having to finish with "Eason - be inspired"…..Oh the fall from grace.
And it's a terrible bookshop.
Perhaps he might have wanted his own book show on RTE One or Lyric FM? The podcast thing does seem to have been a bit below his former aspirations. It will be interesting to see if the guest authors are HarperCollins authors.

Very poor selection in their stores generally.
They're glorified stationery shops these days. The one I used to go into moved into a smaller shop unit and drastically reduced its book section. They're fine if you want an airport novel (not that I'm knocking such a thing) but if you're a book enthusiast they're not nice shops to browse in.
As others have said, they are glorified stationery and sweet shops with a few meagre shelves of books among the toys, puzzles, magazines, greeting cards.
The problem with book shows is like many "arts" programs they are very niche, and Tubridy unfortunately hasn't exactly established his credentials as a book nerd despite his claims.
So he'd need a team of researchers and producers behind him and I can't see RTE investing in all that for a niche show.
I would say someone like Pat Kenny is infinitely more well read than Tubridy but even he wouldn't have the audacity to attempt a book show.
RTE One used to have a books programme and it was presented by Rick O'Shea. RTE also had an Arts TV programme that was, I think, presented by John Kelly (LyricFM). I'd agree on Tubdridy not having established his credibility as a book worm. He seems to want to be thought of as literary without having to put in the amount of reading necessary to be well read. Don't think that his podcast will translate into a show on Irish radio or even as a News UK podcast after the novelty effect wears off.
What was need is a podcast for people who like books but are too busy sit through them.
So the cliff notes for the book, with some excerpts.
But that would require someone to read the book.
Catch 22.
He would never have attempted an independent podcast during his RTE days. Too much effort, would have to pay staff himself, would have to risk the embarrassment of failure....
Much easier to ask Dee to give him a pod on RTE's coin, show up once a week and get handed all his homework by a team of lackeys. Collect salary increase. Job done.
Why would you bother doing a podcast when you are getting 500k per year?
They own some good ones - Dubray and Gutter chains - and yet use the main brand which is more associated with schoolbooks and greeting cards on a book podcast. Weird.
Imagine suggesting an autobiography title to a very well known person, who then had to remind Tubridy - inform him for the first time actually - that he had, in fact, written one more than a decade earlier!
On a specialist "books" podcast!
On the very first one he has made to great fanfare!
Presented by a guy who says he's all about the books!
It is toe curling and buttock clenching and ball-bag withering in it's level of embarrassment.
Tubridy did acknowledge that there might already have been an autobiography.
Very weird opening guest. Very weird.
Will be interesting to see what reach his team has in booking guests for the podcast. I’m assuming unless they are TV famous Tubridy won’t know of them.
It’s all a bit weird.
"Might". Right then. He was on top of it all along.
Why would you bother doing any research when you are getting 500K per year?
