On tapping a black nail, a lot of fairly brutal techniques have been suggested here, adding a fair bit if unnecessary suffering to an already painful injury.
Get a scalpel blade, or if unavailable, a new 16 hypodermic needle or larger, which there should be on any farm. Simply rotate it against the nail with the minimum necessary pressure and one should strike oil in a matter of seconds.
Leave the drill bits in the tool box 😳
Greenways destroy the natural ecology of river banks.
Only place for Greenways is through a bog or disused railway.
what part of kildare are you?. Im a carbury man. I thought you were from belmullet for some reason?. My missus is from belmullet
That's not a very long river. What would the greenway there benefit? Is it the one proposed to join from the Athlone/Mullingar one to the canal thingy between Kilbeggan and Ballycommon?
I'm from near Kill Village originally - but farming near Belmullet via the wife's place about 3 miles East of the town facing Broadhaven
This is the ballinagore to kilbeggan stretch. There's a meeting on 9th May about it.
Are they going yo bring it down by the old mill or the side next the road going to the split hills
The mill side.
Thought as much. Run at far as the old mill just at the narrow bridge?
Starting at mill and running up to Cummins town, with an exit up near pat Kelly's filling station on Dublin road.
Where's the meeting on May 9th happening? Wifes birthday that day so good excuse to get away :-)
When the greenway gets to the mill, does it follow the river into town then to the distillery?
The park hotel I think. Not sure, think the exit was planned out on Dublin road which would mean a pathway through someone's land.
The meeting is planned for 3 to 8pm, so we can either milk early or late to be able to attend.
Have you a link to the meeting or anywhere I could do a bit of reading?
Just going on what the 2 from the council were saying. I assume they will send out a letter with confirmation of the meeting.
A quick look at the website, could only find this.

That doesn't say much about coming into the town, just updating the existing walking route. Be interested in hearing more about this anyway.
From what I gather it's only in the discussion phase.
Well that looks like the last of the April showers for the moment, getting warmer day by day and we'll be at the beach on Sunday 🌞 ⛱.
Praise the Lord!
Is this €100/ha tillage payment on top of the existing incentive scheme?
Is the straw chopping scheme in place for 2024
Yes from what I've read - it's co-funded until 2027. It's really going to put pressure on straw supplies this year combined with the bad weather we've had.
"The Straw Incorporation Measure (SIM) is a new scheme under Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan (CSP) 2023 - 2027 and is co-funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the EU. This scheme follows on from a successful two-year pilot in operation during 2021 and 2022.
The scheme is designed to provide financial support for tillage farmers to increase soil organic carbon levels by chopping and incorporating straw from cereal crops.
In 2023, the rate has been set at €250 per hectare for Oats, Wheat, Barley and Rye and a lower rate of €150 for Oilseed Rape straw. Payments will be visible in farmers’ bank accounts in the coming days."
I’d say allot of lads will be tempted to bale up the straw this year if they can get €30 a bale next harvest.
How many Bales would u get out of an average crop of Barley per Hectare? Would you get 30?
That means they are paying 8euro a Bale, You could offer more
Also Seen my first Field of Silage Dropped today in south Wexford
There's no denying that @Say my name is some farmer!
I was afraid to put the picture up in case I got banned!!
One of our straw suppliers told me last harvest that he was down to five and a half bales to the acre and they lost most of the headland straw cause it was too wet to even try and bale.
Spring time on the farm is on at 8pm every night this week on channel 5
I find Helen Skelton irritating to listen to.
It will be more water than grass that stuff ie. DM and sugars will be p*ss poor
