Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
just heard DJ Shadow is playing Cork on July 5th
Fontaines about to announce new single and tour as well I believe
Edit: Also possible Wunderhorse tour announcement tomorrow with what is presumably album 2 announcement. I assume Vicar Street is next on the list for them.
Sounds great and no Sting to spoil it.
Kerbdog at the Academy - 12th October
There's a throwback
Also, other gigs
Sep 20: Kilkenny The Set Theatre, IrelandΒ Sep 21: Cork Cyprus Avenue, IrelandΒ Sep 28: Belfast Limelight 2, Northern IrelandΒ Oct 12: Dublin The Academy
Kilkenny gig sold out! Last yearβs was excellent looking forward to this!
Late notice, but anyone at a loose end tonight could do worse than head to the Bello Bar for Burning Realm, Wild Rocket, Shifting and Magic Pockets. Excellent lineup of Irish psych for β¬10. Can't make it myself due to car repairs, otherwise, yes absolutely. Burning Realm alone are worth it imo.
Yes, thank you! Good luck with the car repairsβ¦β¦
I've never been to a concert before in either venue but next month I'll be going to Opium Live and was wondering if anyone knew if Opium Live and Whelan's are the same? Every time I google Opium, I'm brought to Whelan's and I just want to figure out where I need to go π
Opium is next door to Whelans
It's next to Whelan's. I can't remember for sure where the entrance for the gigs is. There is an entrance for the venue up front Wexford Street, but I think there is an entrance on the back side and you may have to enter the venue from there.
Opium is a grand venue, was in there in Dec 2021 (lockdown still half enforced) for Fozzy. Mix of The Academy and Whelans. Smoking area looked great
Thanks @PTH2009 for the pics.
@Tauriel the last pick in PTH2009's post above, is the back entrance I referred to. I was there last year to see Faun and got in from there.
Not my favourite venue, something about the design annoys me but I can't figure out what. But suits certain genres nicely. Sirenia play next month and it's in my list, haven't bought a ticket yet though, might be a last minute decision.
Yeah it's Sirenia that I'm coming up to see. I couldn't turn them down at β¬25 a ticket.
I'm to spoiled by 3Arena and Stadium gigs. Getting too old for these 'small gjgs' in the likes of Whelans/Opium etc
Oh the opposite, surely PTH. If you're stuck in that big barn for most of your gigs, the intimacy of a Whelan's gig must be glorious.
True
Seeing David Gray in Whelans, Ed Sheeran in Vicar Street and i suppose Fozzy although that was intresting) in Opium will always be a high point of the my gig life
Each to there own, YOLO
The difficulty for me is I'm not very tall, so finding a good spot would mean going early and stand close to the stage- but my lower back doesn't cooperate well anymore π€ͺπ.
Lately at Whelan's, Button Factory and The Academy I try the upstairs areas, where there are some seats.
Are there seats upstairs in The Academy? I've only been the once and my back was killing me for standing all night. Going again in November to see Delain so might try to get there earlier to try for upstairs.
I always go seated but unfortunately have got caught for three standing concerts this year π¬
Yes, Tauriel. The ones I used the last time I went for Enter Shikari are on the side, so you see the stage from an angle. If you don't mind that, sound is still decent. I think there are some bar stool style seats more centrally, but you really have to be there when doors open.
You are lucky - I've had 4 major surgeries on my back, and I've probably dropped an inch or more due to curvature of the spine (one shoulder is nearly 2 inches lower than the other). And I stopped growing when I was 12. Only just over 6' 1" now and always try and get as close to the stage as I canβ¦
Reminds me of going to a gig in Whelans during COVID. They put seats out for us so I had front row seat in a small venue, best of both worlds. ^ The lead singer from The Nilz with a firework plugged into his ass. (Happy Sunday everyone!) π
Ah, my first one back was these Charming Men in Whelan's with the seats. I was thrilled to back but hated the seats!
Belfast shoegazers Virgins have two album launch gigs on Fri/Sat 26/27 April. The former in Sin E, the latter in The Deers Head, Belfast. Dublin gig is the same night as Problem Patterns and also Pupil Slicer.
Some of the album i like, some of it is too lightweight and poppy for my tastes (which is an issue with a lot of modern shoegaze/dreampop).

They've flipped around the Kurt Vonnegut quote from Slaughterhouse Five that Spiritualized used for their last two albums.
Not seen Virgins but Problem Patterns are very good. And not shy with the decibels.
more Collins barracks shows to be announced over next few weeks
Seen him solo a few times good chance of him doing some deep cut GnR songs if youβre a fan
Any hints of who might be playing?
second Nick cave show added on 13th November
Funny TM are saying the first date is sold out so to get sales for second date.
Quick glance at available tickets show this is very much not the case
