Had it happen in an Opel Kadett, the stink was atrocious, took absolutely ages to dry the sound proofing stuff out🤢
Or the heater matrix, which did for mine.😏
Put on a new water pump with a steel impeller, sorted.
Only 22k miles. Plenty of time for the head gasket to go yet!
Wow you forget how basic the engine bays were back then. Looks very easy to work on.
Jaysus a 99 Punto is vintage 🫣

Never buy an Alpha, end of story.
Absolute money pits and a bugger to work on. King of the sized nut.
Large, comfortable. Taxed and NCT'd for €2900 asking. https://www.carsireland.ie/3684640
Bit harsh, but clean the seats, they're disgusting 🫣
Here’s the for sale thread. It does decent business.
Hi Jerry. No NCT ⇒ doesn't belong in this thread. So that is the first thing you need to sort. Or be willing to accept a lowball offer. Particularly given the gearbox issue.
Photos and description are excellent. Not to sound harsh but with No NCT, mention of mileage and a dodgy gearbox, this is a fixer-upper, not bangernomics. You’ll probably only get mechanics interested in it.
Hi Guys
I am selling my old A3 - https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/audi-a3-2009/36751393
If anyone is interested I'll give you a boards.ie discount :)
Would love any feedback on the ad
Thanks
J
The Alfa Romeo sportwagon has just hit the bangernomics cut-off of €3k.
Also there's an amendment to the description which would have me a quite worried if I had put in the highest bid
"MILEAGE IS FLASHING. BLUE&ME NOT WORKING. MESSAGE ON SCREEN 'ENGLISH LANGUAGE NOT AVAILABLE' . IT SEEMS IT REQUIRES SOFTWARE RELOADED."
Errrrr WTF like !!!
Crazy money for any 10 year old car!
Crazy money for a bog spec 10 year old corolla, there's surely something cheaper out there.
This thread is for cars under €3k. Compare it to similar cars on the market and you’ll see what kind of value it is.
Why no interior pics?
It's a Ford Focus with a Volvo badge (which is good) but that engine is from Peugeot / Citroen and can be troublesome. But as always with bangernomics, that car has high miles but is still going, so could be perfectly fine. Buy it cheap enough so that if you run into any serious problems, you can dump it and have enough budget left over to buy another bangernomics car
It's €8,900
He'll take €2000 for my car which is in a bad way, turbo on way out and few lights on the dash
Maybe the dementia is setting in but I can't see any price on that Ad🤔. The terra model is about as grim as it gets but it'll certainly get you where you want to go and back again.

A deal or avoid?
Whats are 2010-2011 Volvo S40/S60 like with 200k+ km?
seen a couple of these pop up on Facebook marketplace for small enough money.
looking at a S40 2011 1.6 diesel for €1,500 car looks clean just wondering if there is anything to be wary of with these cars before i go take a look at it?
Honda Accord / Mazda 6, both petrol. Could be good reliable options. Unless you do huge mileage and thus can't afford not to run a diesel

Is it for a second family car that's not needed for long distance travel? If so, you could consider a Nissan Leaf. Proably the most reliable car ever made. Several posted in this thread or here:
Afraid not, it will be to replace the poxy banger Ford Focus needing 1500 in repairs/maintenance which is probably 3 times its value.
Also they are in an apartment block that has no charging point so not an option sadly.
Will check out the Avensis. Thanks!
Goldings cars are usually overpriced. I'd look elsewhere
Check out the auction website. Current highest bid is €2800. Auctions usually have a reserve price. €3500 is the reserve here. Soo in theory yes €3501 gets it.... as long as nobody bids more.
That alfa.. I've never seen a car advertised on DoneDeal with a GUIDE price of €3,500 - €6000…
So does an offer of €3,501 take it
Quick question. This is still at Bangernomics money, but its an auction....soo will probably go higher eventually.

What are peoples opinions of the Alfa-Romeo 159 sportwagon?
I owned a 156 saloon back in the early 2000's. It was a crackin car. I had to sell it for financial reasons inside a year. .. (Maybe if I had owned it for longer, I would have hated it) have often thought I would like to buy a 159 ever since.
