Hiroshima and Nagasaki would like to add theirs voices to the list of times the US got it badly wrong.
And I am talking about the Ukraine Russia war. Once again the US are getting it badly wrong withdrawing their support. Tying the bill to support of the genocide in Palestine was another disastrous decision.
What’s said in the media and reality on the ground are often not related. As I said this is one hell of an intensive war of over 2 years duration. Nothing like this has been seen since world war 2. It’s obviously burning through weapons stocks at an alarming rate. And it’s not been supported by anything close to a war economy. We all know that. And other theaters like Middle East and Taiwan are putting pressure on the situation as well. And countries like Poland massively stock piling weapons too. There is no way there is anything like the level of production to support all that. And there is ongoing savage uncovered conflicts in places like Sudan that are drawing on weapons supplies also.
ukraine is badly in need of ten patriot missiles plus associated hardware
biden sullivan and austin want ukraine to sit back and have the schit kicked out of them
So does that mean that the MAGA types in Congress have nothing to do with this?
Pin the blame fairly and squarely where it ought to be: ultimately with Trump and his party.
Korea? They were absolutely on the right side in Korea.
Bollocks.
Biden is dealing with a Republican party so hell bent on intransigence that they scuppered a plan to secure the border that they themselves were asking for, just because Trump asked them to block it since he didn't want Biden getting the credit.
Biden needs congressional approval to pass another multi billion aid package, but the Republican party has a slim house majority reliant on crazies who constantly threaten to remove the speaker if something happens which they don't like.
It is those crazies like Greene (and Trump) who want to see Ukraine lose. They consider Russia an ally.
If they were able to, they would do. They've tried repeatedly. Unfortunately it seems they can't do more than inflict minor damage
that bridge is destined for the bottom of the sea x
Absolutely. Biden is the President. This is on him.
Just finished Catherine Belton’s book Putin and his People. It was published before the 2022 invasion, but gives a great level of detail in the rise of Putin and his acolytes.
It’s amazing how much influence Russians have had on Trump and for how long. Putins dictatorship is strong and he knew years ago he couldn’t leave power without huge risk to himself. But there must be millions of disaffected Russians, waiting for a leader.
What do you want him to do now?
i.e. not use hindsight and a time machine and go back to fix mistakes he/his admin. already made last year. Would be interesting to hear.
The dysfunctions in congress and senate both work way’s however
The only universe in which Russia gets out from under US sanctions (putting aside EU ones) is a universe in which Trump wins and dismantles the US republic and crowns himself a strongman king
But I suspect some who admire leaders riding bareback would just applaud such an event
Without sanctions dropping Russia just becomes an ever larger copy of North Korea and a resource colony for China with a dwindling population and continued technological and social retrogression
Shouldn't we be putting pressure on our own Government to stop our ridiculous policies and purchase weapons for Ukraine?
There is no need for Ireland to send weapons which it does not have anyway, it won't make much difference. But Ireland can send money, medical supplies, anything to help clear mines, etc.
Funding the Czech initiative to get shells to Ukraine would have been nice. At the very least, Ireland could match other EU countries military aid with direct humanitarian aid. Like purchasing generators, field hospitals etc...
It may be like that in your ruSSia, but US system doesn't work like that.
Soap.. what kinda name is that anyway.
Personally speaking I think Soap is a fantastic name. It feels good to say it.
Oh look it's the FNG..
The other thing is that if Ireland started using tax money to pay for weapons to go to Ukraine, it would just become this point of political argument faster than you can say, 'Hiya, Joe…'
"Why are we sending weapons to Ukraine when that money should be used to sort out public housing?"
But humanitarian assistance? Absolutely. Potentially, there's an awful lot of good work which Irish charities and so on could be doing in this regard.
"Your Russia" What do you mean by that?
Course they can, I dunno why they don't, they're restraining themselves, when ever Ukraine attack Russian energy depots, Putin hits back 100 fold, that's what happened yesterday, so to take down the bridge would result in a huge response.
What? 100x farts more like. You think Putin "held back" before? Like hell he did, he tried to destroy Ukrainian power stations for the last 2 years, especially in winter 2022/23. The difference now is that Ukraine is running out of air defenses because of the USA's stalling on support and Europe being to slow to ramp up.

How much will it continue to cost us when more Ukrainians are forced to flee their towns and cities and end up in Ireland. We already have spent billions to support Ukrainian refugees, personally, I'd have no problem with us using those billions to let Ukraine buy arms. Since we will have to spend a fortune on it, either way, let's spend it on Ukraine trying to defend itself.
The two pincers of the 'fúck Ukraine' movement (sponsored by Russia) are not to give Ukraine any more military aid, but also not to give any refuge, forcing its people to either be slaughtered or subjugated.
People talk about America not caring anymore. I would say there are people in Europe who don't seem that bothered about Russia invading a fellow European country and attempting to wipe its existence from the Earth. It's definitely a strain on systems to house Ukrainian refugees, but they are as far from chancers as you're likely to get from people described as refugees. If those people can't be helped, there's no hope for anyone.
'Not my problem', they may say. It may not be your problem today . Subsequent events may make it your problem tomorrow, and what say those people when they cry out for help and the world looks away?
He was suggesting that Ukraine are restraining themselves from hitting the Kerch bridge, not that Russia is restraining itself.
Ahh. Apologies then. My mistake. deleted my post
it is disturbing how this way of thinking for a foothold in Ireland. People know Ukraine is bombed, people are traumatised but some still won’t accept they needed to leave home. It’s disgusting.
