Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

Cat-Mod: See post here regarding off-topic segues.
He's also a middle aged man himself.
Its a self hating projection thing.
Entertaining for a while then a bit tedious and finally a bit weird was how it went for me.
I engaged with him (through across all his usernames,he changes them about every 18 months ) but now have him on ignore.
I haven't listened to one second of Tubridy on Virgin but I enjoy this thread. It is annoying when you see a few new posts on here and then when you click into them it's one poster posting the exact same thing.
Anyway,he seems to be on high doe the last few days. The pattern for this is as follows
Meltdown
Ban
Rereg.
Strange existence but hey ho.
The big podcast?
“I’ve got a podcast and it’s about, you’ve guessed it, books,” he says in a video shared on social media, describing how the interview format with international guests from the worlds of music, television, literature and sport will take place.
“The guest comes along with three books from their very own bookshelf: the book from their childhood, the book that made them cry, and the book that changed their life. Over the course of a conversation, we’ll have a chat about the people and their lives through the prism of these three beautiful, important books. He adds: "The world of reading is rarely dull and lends itself to the most intriguing conversations, of which I've had many putting season one together. The first of these conversations drops on Tuesday. I can't wait to share it with you.”
Guessing Vogue is a guest on this, rather than them doing something together.
Tubridy will also offer his pick for ‘Ryan Recommends’, a segment where he shares a book he has enjoyed in recent weeks and months.
Bonkers!
The Bookshelf with Ryan Tubridy will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major audio platforms and to watch on YouTube.Hate listening (and watching!) available from next week.
Any books over 400 pages?
Has Tubridy returned to Virgin Radio after his break or is this podcast meant to replace his radio show?
Regards…jmcc
“This has been a passion project of mine for a couple of years now but I could never quite find enough time to put it all together," Tubridy says.

He was finished at ten o'clock in the morning for the last ten years. Apparently he didn't have enough time to record an hour long interview outside this.
Ah now, he will have to have read a book a week at least. Hence the need to knock the radio show on the head 😁
you know what,
Good luck to him, he has tried to reinvent himself, he had a cushy number in RTE, he is now working in the private sector, and is making an effort
Can’t say anything at the moment but been hearing rumours on the Dublin media grapevine that Ryan has some “big hitters” lined up for this.
Is that like they announce "big hitters" on rte for one of their celebfests variety shows, and it just turns out to be the usual suspects from the canteen?
the press announcement is all ex this and ex that. Irish sponsor so very much specific to the Irish market. No tie in with Virgin or News U.K. which suggests no deepening of the relationship with that group
Comments aren't very enthusiastic....

Desert Island Discs with books. A good idea, as the host does not have read the books as part of a book review. The guest will talk about their favourite books. An issue for Eason as some of the books discussed may no longer be in print, so will not generate sales.
Very much the Dublin market as Easons doesn't have a nation-wide bookshop chain. Might fit in with some local advertising on Dublin radio stations.
Easons delivering nationwide these days, would have some brand recognition outside Dublin?
Yes but not as much as Amazon. There are some cities and towns outside Dublin with their own bookshops too.
Martin King has been in this week on Q102, replacing him, and mentioned regularly that Tubridy would be back next week,
Martin should refuse to vacate the seat :)
Not just men to be fair. The Journal comments section is not representative of society at all.
I get the impression you hate men from your posts. Well apart from our Ryan.
It sounds like none of this involves Ryan reading any books himself
Did anyone else read about the 'NK pipeline' and picture the pipeline Andy Dufresne used to escape from Shawshank?
Times Newspapers are a major podcaster. But they already have a much better known U.K. name presenting their books podcast
I'd say he'll get Hilary Clinton on it too.
Probably Pres Higgins too, he just loves an opportunity to talk.
Maybe previous presidents too? The 2 Mary's.
Will you be switching the dial then?
NewsUK have a podcast division, and their Irish arm has one too.
Bobson as clued up as ever. The lads still dreaming of Dire Straits after midnight somewhere up a hill in Leinster
Acast is a distribution system not a podcast production company. NewsUK use Acast themselves.
😁 I think someone different is filling in tomorrow.
The serendipity of someone other than Tubridy? People could get used to this kind of thing. :)
I am listening to The Rest Is Entertainment presented by Richard Osman and Marina Hyde, they had a question about book podcasts and they basically said that the idea for a lot of celebrities is to show their more intellectual side, and that books don't really sell from podcasts, they also spoke about TV book clubs like Oprah and Richard and Judy. Interestingly they said that Reece Witherspoon basically buys up TV rights for books she has on her podcast and then produces them. While both are clearly political its an interesting insight into the Entertainment industry if you looking for something to listen too.
