An outright ban helps noone. If you're truly arguing for a "green" cause, then it should be a congestion charge based on emissions and the funds ringfenced to improve public transport and other green initiatives.

It's impossible to improve bus transport through the city centre without removing a significant % of the cars. Allowing the wealthy to continue driving through won't improve anything even if you get huge sums of money out of them; as they will continue to be in the way.
The North Quays bus gate is realistically only removing the already tiny flow of cars that are able to get through the phases at Bachelors Walk at peak anyway.

…most people will probably keep driving through no matter what, the alternatives required simply dont exist, and may never, current and past governments have completely failed in even attempting to modernize our transport network….
The number of people driving in to Dublin city centre in cars has been falling for years.
And an absolutely tiny percentage of those are going along the quays anyway.
But that tiny percentage is still having a large impact on public transport there.
Oh yeah, they need to go.
Reminds of when they first put in the double bus lane on the quays and the reporting was mentioning "commuter chaos" as opposed to highlighting that 10 times as many bus passengers as motorists were now moving freely.

The plan is to take cars off the road in the city centre. This has been discussed for years.

…and again, the only way to truly do this is to modernize our public transport system, you cannot keep financially squeezing people, without truly providing actual functioning alternatives….
Loving these measures and the meltdowns from the entitled motorists. It frees up space for buses of which there are so many they congest the centre themselves. Last thing we need are cars mixed in too making it even more difficult for the hard pressed working classes to get to work on buses.
Next up we need taxis out of bus lanes please.

True, and honestly I find the whole debate about the "Big Bad Greens" trying to take away my rights to drive a private car through the city centre as utterly childish and short sighted, like as if Congestion and pollution suddenly arrived when Eamonn Ryan came along!

The system is modernized, the biggest issue at the moment is the extensive bus system in Dublin is slowed down by cars.
Bus lanes are used by people who think it is their own private lane when traffic gets bad and at every traffic light its a nightmare as people jump in and out of bus lanes slowing them down
How is closing down street in Dublin "financially squeezing people"?
How is making it quicker and easier to use public transport to get to work? how much would a person save per year v a car if they use public transport.
If they dried up the Liffy you'd easily get another 6 lanes up and down the quays. Problem solved.
