Unfortunately there have been a few big projects announced for Arklow over the years with politicians getting their faces in the paper but nothing happens .
The has been announced just after last week plans were put forward for a terminal 3 at Dublin Airport.
I thought this project was announced for Athlone, not Arklow, for a major new city and airport.
Could it be the 'investors' mis-identified the best place.

It has taken thirty years to get as far as a decade away for a rail connection to Collins Town Dublin Airport.
Its the talk of the local farming area and 10 have signed up,so there is something to it
T3 at DUB takes crowding out of T1 and T2 but doesnt increase capacity unless night flights are extended

Very strange proposal. We already have more airports than we need for the population of this country. Both Wexford Bus and Bus Éireann have hourly buses from Arklow to the airport so it's not exactly like the area is crying out for an airport..
They had an information evening nearby for many landowners also. It is no April fools, and hard to see how they scam landowners given that from their POV it will be a straightforward sale

No one has mentioned the environmental aspect yet, but the chances of a large new airport getting through the Irish planning process in this day and age are nonexistent. Even with the government's blessing (rather than it being just a speculative private venture), I don't see how it could get planning permission.
Given we are all forking it through the nose for carbon taxes, because reduce CO2, you know, this is not allowable in that context from the amount of concrete required, it being the third highest global emmission source of CO2.
Ok but besides the artificial cap placed on passenger numbers that the DAA are trying to amend, Dublin Airport has significant scope to increase capacity through infrastructure improvements. The new runway is not even 2 years old. I take your point about low-cost but If another airport was ever needed, would Baldonnel not make more sense? It could share it with the AirCorps.

The difference is none of those airports are that close to Dublin except Belfast, which is in another jurisdiction.
A new airport close to Dublin but with it's own airspace and with good transport links to Dublin could compete with Dublin airport for traffic, and therefore bring costs down.
DAA have a monopoly right now, this plan would challenge that
