Martbids
family member who is a very big dairy farmer keeps all his freisian bulls used to sell them but like you he got fed up of getting a poor price for good fresians, he is at it a long time now and is more than happy with his returns, he sells as yearlings in the spring at around 350kgs
No fear of you so - them's a different tribe
Any sign of magic day?
I’m guessing the new definition of Magic day is 24 hours dry and the sun isn’t behind thick clouds??
Hey but lads don't forget the above.. and in fairness I have got them out by day for the last ten days..but I have a dry farm, relatively lowly stocked over all ground and it has been a struggle..
They may mean well I dunno but its a serious stretch to tell lads on heavy ground to get cows out now.
In the comic Aidan Brennan suggested once a day milking if necessary.
Seems like mad advice, firstly from an animal welfare point suddenly switching to once per day, not to mention the drop in yield subsequently as well as the scc issues.
Forecast for 17th...it's coming
Went for a spin west along Inchegeela/Ballingeary on Sunday and was extremly impressed with grazing management. Difficult ground, well worked square sections, limited damage. Wouldn't have seen this level of management years ago..
Would the ground in that area be that difficult ? I thought alot of that area was on sandstone?
That's a lot of cows in 1 day
Boys country round there mate from that side said they’re grazing cos there's no choice .....…
A lot of cows getting hurt in yards now bulling and a winter of not great silage.thst knackery does cover a big area though .
Most farmers are under serious pressure and struggling to stay sane at the moment. Teagasc/IFJ and others pointing at how some lads are apparently flying is only adding to that pressure.
Also telling lads they should be out grazing saturated land is crap.
You can add those morons in Agriland to that list... i
No matter how bad things are there's always someone worse off
In australia their advisors are trained to spot struggling farmers at risk of suicide and have supports/councillors to help men/women before it's to late, in this kip their actively contributing to putting men over the edge, absolute shower of b***ds down to the last man and women
Piggery after ringing us to see if we had room for pig slurry or know of anyone with room. We're full like most people.
Definitely Talk about copy and paste
Well if there is I feel really sorry for the poor fooker cause he must be miserable 😬😬😬😬
Was talking to a gobshite (and thats all you could call him ) yesterday out of Teagasc ...he couldn't answer the questions I had regarding tams and entitlements .......but he must have asked 3 or 4 times if I had been grazing why not and had I ot out and walked the place this week............…neighbours had to get a digger to take a tractor and tanker out of a field a couple of days ago ..... and we're supposed to be on goodish ground
Lad who does a few milkings for me is a fencing contractor. Land too wet to travel to drive posts. Got him to sort out fences around new parlour for getting cows in and out. Then got him to put a sheep wire and electric fence up along a roadway were cows kept breaking out last year. He used our digger to drive posts. He was delighted to be out working and I'm delighted to have it done. On Tuesday when the weather was good he got 10 calls of lads wanting him.
100% when we used to have the H&S at the discussion groups a few years ago I asked a few different ones, if they ever thought of any negative side to drumming out all the idealistic generic KPIs and top 20% targets where they were obviously inapplicable and inappropriate? Unsurprisingly they didn't seem to get it.
If you tell someone they're a failure often enough there's a danger they might listen.
Great to get it done whelan I'd say there's going to be lads running on top of there heads with lads roaring to get stuff done
Rang contractor yesterday to take a couple of loads out of slatted shed to cow tank. They were here in 20 minutes.
It's tough going at the moment
Joe patton was on a tirlan podcast thingy, he said milking OAD didn't reduce cow intake according to their research.
Neighbour rang in a panic last week looking for bales. I had mine stacked beside the road. I wasn't going to sell but he seemed to be in bother. Told him to bring some at 35eur. Chief gave out to me for selling so cheap. Another lad commented that I didn't go hard on him. I didn't mind getting a lad out of a hole. But being good natured won't get me anywhere it seems. I should have let his cows go hungry. Maybe he'll have to sell the cows and ill get renting it next year and drive on. Hard to get it right
Or maybe he will remember this. And tell you in a friendly chat of land coming up for sale or lease. Or when you are stuck and he offers back. Do your own thing visatorro. You'll get no thanks either way if you try and follow advice. And most likely those who give the advice if the shoe was on their feet would do the exact same as you. Easy talk when they know they won't be dealing with the aftermath.
