If there was to be a debate between he and Biden, we'd see how far Trump has slipped, but I think there's more chance of RFK winning the presidency than those two debating.
I honestly think if you refuse to debate your main opponent in a presidential election, you should automatically be deregistered from the race as a contender.

Trump can't debate he just bullies and shouts down everyone and that includes whichever network hosts are there to moderate and they let him away with it.
I can see it going either ways: the GOP primaries were functional coronations and while it was easier for the Republicans to hand-wave away the "need" for a debate given the gigantic gap between Trump and his rivals…. the national election is a much bigger and different fish to fry. But if they stick to their guns and scream "Hoax!" and suchlike, maybe they can just bullshít their way outta it.
IIRC the GOP have pulled out of the non-partisan group to organise debates, but equally, I'm not sure they'll be able to ignore the inevitable clamour - both in broadcast media and the social version - that'll come if and when Trump refuses to debate. It certainly won't help the mumblings about Trump's dictatorial yearnings.
The Base will buy the "it's rigged/fake" storyline like they buy everything else , but genuine independent/swing voters will not.
If Trump refuses to participate in the debates it will confirm that he has completely given up on the Independent voters and will be trying to rely exclusively on the GOP "Base" to get elected. He has repeatedly pushed the angle of "if you're not 100% MAGA , we don't want you" - Something that may work in the Primary , but absolutely won't in the general.
Whether Trump is willing or able to shift his rhetoric remains to be seen though.
