I was delighted with the 250kmh, that's why I took the photo. And can concur on the smoothness, top class. The punctuality of German trains isn't what it once was though.
Turbo rex ! 😉
No there was a screen in each carriage that tells you the speed you're going. I should have taken a photo lol.
Must have turned on the rex.
Maybe it was ICE 417 you were travelling on and thought that was the speed?
Their tracks aren't rated for more than 300kph. Trains that operate in Germany are capable of higher speeds which they achieve in neighbouring countries, but the ICE for example can't do more than 320kph.
Well whatever about now, certainly when I was on it it definitely got to 400 at one stage, I saw it with my own eyes, again, that was 8/9 years ago. I'll never forget how butter smooth it was.
Anyway, since the energy crisis maybe they've had to slow down to conserve energy ?
I think Mad Lad was on the Boeing Inter City Express….😁
Yeah, it doesn't take much effort to find that the maximum speed on the German rail network is 300kph.
Ice only went 250kmh on that stretch in January
Fair enough
sticking to fossil feuls because lithium has only a finite supply of? Thanks for the laugh.
Nothing has an infinite supply, including diesel but lithium supply won’t be running short anytime soon.
On your other point, a modern diesel power train is a lot more complex than the equivalent electric, so you will have no shortage of things to repair as it ages, enjoy.
You'll be boycotting mobile phones as well I suppose raspberry.
"Feelings". Always a great substitute for facts.
that’s nice.
I'm going to stick with diesel. I work in the electronics area and I dont trust the idea of always being able to repair these EV's. Neither do I like the idea of lithium , of which there is only a finite supply off. I'll wait for better safer, lighter batteries.
I've a Mazda3 skyactive, 10 years old now. Might get a second hand Diesel. Not even too pushed on the Hybrids anymore, used to be but…hmmm, might look into them. However I think all the hype with batteries is scaring me….I think they will be quite expensive long term in terms of changing battery packs, sooner then people think I feel too….
M1 lusk area has multiple sites now added since those days.
Maybe the chademo was the issue here. I thought there was many CCS points along that route with multiple options from Dublin to Belfast based on the maps available.
I done Belfast to Dublin years ago in my Leaf and managed with one stop from memory but it was late at night. I left Belfast at 90’ish %.
In proportion to the demand. High population of decent earners who use the network alot across the East coast.
I once went to M1 Lusk to see 5 cars ahead of me in a queue for 1 Chademo. F that.
Across the network in midlands, west, north, ive never been behind more than 1 car and had a max wait of 15 mins for the person in front to finish.
Basically, where there are high incomes, there should be many more chargers because the likelihood of ownership and demand is high.
Can others weigh in here? Does anyone think we have plenty of chargers for the demand there?
There's a part of track between Mannheim and Frankfurt Airport that the intercity express can get 400 Km/h or slightly above it, I was on the fecking thing and it showed the speed, that was around 8 or 9 years ago.
In what way? Looking at ZapMap, there’s seems to be a few.
Why is the M1 so deserted for EV charging in relation to the amount of Ecars that use it. I always wonder if they plugged the gap there wed get alot more uptake
No train in Germany goes anywhere near 400. Max is 300 and new lines will be 250 because the cost of being able to do 300 for short stretches isn't worth it.
https://ir.tesla.com/tesla-vehicle-production-deliveries-and-date-financial-results-webcast-first-quarter-2024
Tesla have a lot of unsold cars at the end of the quarter so I think the temptation to discount will be simply too high and it will place pressure on other manufacturers to discount to keep pace.
I never moved the goal posts, I said all along that the petrol bikes can do city and anywhere else with no restrictions, this is what battery scooters can't do, not everyone wants to pay petrol scooter prices for such restrictions.
I think you missed the model on the right with a top speed of 90kmh and a range of 137km (dual battery). A quick search on Google will find at least a half dozen more with ~100km range and similar top speed.
And I see you've now moved the goal posts from getting around town easily on a scooter to riding all around the island.
Probably 80 Km range but still decent I suppose although 45 Km/h but why would someone pay so much with some limitations when they can buy a petrol scooter that can ride all around the Island at decent speeds without restrictions ? But each to their own.
Except most of the pollution it generates is in those built up areas. Exactly the opposite of what's required.
Not dreaming. And there are loads more with similar range/speed.
