It was 9PM on a December evening, so not broad daylight. But it was a Saturday night in December, well into Christmas Party season, and on a street with an active nightlife, so I don't see how he is let get away with the defence that he didn't expect to see pedestrians there.
Sure are ya mad, Judge Nolan sending Drug dealing killers to jail? Nahhh... a little pat on the bum and off you go.. next naughty boy please...
‘The market is in chaos’ - Trek set to make cuts amid high industry stock levels | Cycling Weekly
"Well, well, well. If it it isn't the consequences of my own actions"
Stock clearance obviously the key - the new TCR not going to available until "week 38". Great that they launched it with such fanfare, and it's the first bikes that pop up on their website...
Pretty good article by a European Think Tank spelling out stuff that most of us here already know and see every day
Cycling stalwart advocate Cannon TD not to re-run
“It would be remiss of me not to comment on the difference between being a politician now and twenty years ago. That’s also been a factor in my decision to leave. There’s a coarseness, a toxicity in politics now that was barely palpable twenty years ago. None of us asks to be put on a pedestal, or to be treated any differently. We just ask to be treated with the same civility and respect as anyone else doing their job.
Yes, politicians are subject to public scrutiny, and rightly so, but what we are experiencing right now goes far beyond that and can be deeply damaging to our wellbeing. At times it feels like it’s open season on you and your family. That’s not acceptable, nor indeed sustainable, if we want to have good people choosing politics as a career.
i wouldn't consider myself an FG voter at all, but he's one i'll be sorry to see go.
In England, road safety campaigner is killed whilst cycling...
Think, based on what Harris is saying, they're going to throw out, or feign throwing out, most of the climate change mitigation measures in the run up to the general election. Think Cannon wouldn't have been that happy with that approach. Not that it's got anything to do with bowing out when he did.
Haven't been paying much attention to the FG shenanigans this week, as I am just too tired but no matter what he says, most of them he actually can't and claiming he will is just lying to get popularity votes (said as someone who doesn't knwo what he actually claimed).
I might be imagining it, to be fair.
Councillors warn Kerry will have more cycleways and walkways than roadways
“In a very short time, if this policy persists, we’ll have hundreds of miles of cycleways or walkways"
I don't know, sounds pretty good to me!
I do hate, though, people using these anti-cycling soundbites which have no basis in fact - I have no idea, but I'd imagine the road-to-cycleway ratio in Kerry would be something like 20,000 to 1. It would take a long time, and a different universe, to get to the point where there are "more cycleways and walkways than roadways".
Kerry councillors use slippery slope fallacy, gets them an article in the Independent.
Another article pointing out that traffic adapts to conditions even under the most unusual conditions
A pity that the councillors didn't have the wit to check the council website before opening their burble holes:
"The Roads Department is responsible for the design, maintenance and construction of public roads in Kerry where some 435km of National Roads and 4,446kms of other roads exist".
Roads, Transportation and Marine Department | kerrycoco.ie
i thought this was paywalled but it's not.
It is paywalled now 😥
I think it depends on how many free articles you've read this week
Cookies cleared and article now available - thanks
It was mentioned elsewhere that there was no penalty for the driver, no fine, no points, no nuttin.
How can that happen?
...
That is actually quite a good article with a decent amount of detail.
Coming up on Radio1 at 13:00
Edit: Sean Daly describes a crash and results at a Sligo roundabout
https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/22378291/
No mention of any criminal or civil legal penalty for the driver who drove into the cyclist on a roundabout unfortunately.
RSA spokesperson said that they don't see the same discrepancy with other users groups, but they haven't done the formal research for pedestrians or others yet. I'd wonder is there a fairly similar effect with motorists, of a large bunch of injuries not being reported to AGS.
I doubt it for motorists. Most significant crashes causing injuries probably involve an insurance claim, which I presume would require a Garda report?
Nope. I've had two insurance claims, gardaí don't want to know. Civil matter. I reported the first one, and the only thing the Garda said was "did you exchange details?"
gardai generally don't want to know if no-one is injured. that's not saying they do want to know if someone is injured…
You know it's an article about cycling when they feel the need to insert the word "expensive" in the first sentence when talking about a new bike stand! https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/green-party-leader-eamon-ryan-hails-new-bicycle-stand-and-ev-charging-points-at-leinster-house/a962180175.html
is 'an expensive bike stand' a stand for expensive bikes, or an expensive stand for bikes?
