Approval at cabinet was given yesterday for a strategy that will see council funding tied to implementing clean air and or congestion charging by 2030 as part of the sustainability push.
Even if it is some way off, I find it hard to see how a largely regressive taxation measure is going to go down well. Or maybe 2030 is too far away for people to care?
No it's not. I use the bus to get to work because its the quickest way to get to work.
Make it or other methods of public transport the quickest and people will use them too.
Take the luas from Tallaght to The Point. It'd be quicker to cycle. But a lot of people don't want to cycle.
We need to make the alternative to the car more attractive but it seems our only way to do it is penalising car use.
Bring people with you.
Nothing wrong with a lot of the connectivity options for public transport
Irish people are lazy and getting lazier. It's easy to get into the car than public transport.
Did you actually read what you quoted?
It’s easy to forget it was right to ban bedsits and curb the worst excesses of Celtic Tiger era planning when rents are at an all-time high and homelessness is spiralling out of control.

None of which changes the fact that the Greens did not change policy on bedsits.
The only way to make buses more attractive is to prioritise space for buses on the road, by taking priority away from private cars.
Only the really, really dirt poor don't have cars. Anyone who can afford a ~10 year old car will buy one if it helps their quality of life. And considering that owning a car allows a person/family to go from anywhere they are to anywhere they want/need to go at any time carrying as much as they need, that is basically everyone.
And switching to EVs won't do much according a previously posted link, since according to the cycling lobby, air pollution won't be improved by EVs as they supposedly make more tyre and brake dust which will cancel out the elimination of fuel burning. Though that seems to be more of an endorsement of modern ICEs if the genuinely produce less pollution or a similar amount to that of an EV. Additionally, according to the Kilkenny People article posted recently, measures suggested by the Asthma society include (but might not be limited to):
But a lot of this seems like a first world problem and (with the exception of people with asthma who legitimately are super-sensitive to air pollution) I have to wonder how the complainers or anyone else lives in Asia, Africa or Latin America, or even parts of Southern Europe for that matter.
It's not just the window frames that are protected, the single glazed original glass is as well. I have read up on the Fineo glass and would go for it if I was permitted.
I have a good friend, really successful in his job and not on the lower pay scale and doesn't have a car.
If he needs one will rent one using the renting system.
So tryin to say only the "really dirt poor don't have cars" is totally wrong
One third of people in Dublin are really really dirt poor, apparently
From
If people are measuring wealth by owning a car then something really has gone wrong with the World
I must have imagined Prime Time talking about this, with a car dealer stating most of the above. Here’s the same dealer talking to Newstalk.

Plenty of discussion about this already
The person in question is somewhat desperate for lime light
They also couldn't tell the difference between a hybrid and an electric car. Claimed the electric car had to be kept at room temp etc etc
She got lots of free publicity, so fair play to her. But in terms of a source for reliable information on electric cars? I think you need to look elsewhere.
She even managed to create an account on boards and join a thread discussing her, especially after someone figured out a few details behind her company. She created a video on that as well to refute the post…..seemed odd stuff
When pushed on extended warranty she had no idea about companies offering it in Ireland on any car. Combustion or electric. Ekkkk
Her most recent video was her claiming a "client" got her to buy a brand new merc from Bradys in Castleknock and drive the hour long down the road so he could collect off her?
🤔
She got free advertisement, the anti EV crowd lapped it up so it made a few people happy
Thats really lame, he chooses not to buy car, but he could if he wanted!!
And you forgetting a fairly hefty regular sum of money for the government..
All find and dandy introducing a congestion tax etc but until they have a decent public transport their should be no tax, as some ppl (arguably alot of ppl) dont have a choice but to use car!
It really is incredible how powerful the fossil fuel lobby is, that through their efforts, this one woman from a tiny independent dealership who has been spouting verifiable nonsense, has been elevated to be the voice of the entire Irish motor industry
No what is really lame is saying someone is "dirt poor" because they haven't a car
Do you have anything to back up that "alot of ppl" dont have a choice?
What's the saying, that a mature society is not one where the poor can afford a car, but one where the rich take public transport?
A small time dealer who has about 60 cars for sale is now the spokesperson for the Irish motor industry
Not a Windsor/Joe Duffy etc, Nadia.
Not even one of the most respected dealers in IReland for high end motors
Nadia, who didn't understand the difference in a hybrid or an electric.
You would have to wonder why 😂
I've never owned one. My partner and I don't have one currently, borrow one if need one. There's no need to own one if you set your life up in a certain way.
You will be called "dirt poor" now 😂
Yes the GoCar is great. We used it all the time when living in the city and had a single car because my wife required it for work
Now we have moved out we require two cars, no school bus(fighting for that at the moment) etc.
If I could reduce back to one car tomorrow I would, even with electric the overhead on owning a car are huge compared to a push bike
This proposal is very popular in certain wealthy areas of the city. Prices the plebs off the road thus reducing journey times for those driving range rovers.
London has a bucket load of functional alternatives such as the Tube, light rail and punctual buses. It also focuses on improving infrastructure, adding new routes and making the existing ones fit for purpose. Ireland has poor offerings in comparison. A glut of the roads leading to the city centre have been narrowed for wider paths, bus or cycle lanes but their utilisation hasnt grown significantly. In the meantime, the traffic has slowed further and added significantly more emissions from slow moving traffic. Adding a congestion charge isn't going to fix that without alternatives.
Regressive is installing more ramps and traffic lights, closing filter lanes and not delivering a metro or other functional public transport options. Adding more taxes and charges for zero additional services or benefits is not a progressive action.
Yes because everyone driving a "range rovers" love paying more tax to drive them around 🙄
Hmm
There is 6 years to improve public transport. The greens have been massively improving it country wide already, and by 2030, if it isn't even better than it is now, it's because the greens have been removed and replaced by the wet dream of the alt right and we're back to driving around in coal powered monster trucks and vans from the 1980s
Go onto the "Green policies" thread and it's the same 4-5 posters blaming the Green Party for anything and everything. They claim anyone who is environmentally minded at all is a "zealot" etc and honestly the anti Green people are worse than anyone.
It was telling the only thread on Christmas day on politics active was that one, with the same few complaining about the Green Party. Hilarious stuff.
For what is a tiny party in Ireland.
Maybe they could actually start providing a public transport system in Dublin... and. No, I'm not talking about more stonking and glacial, held up in gridlock buses...
The gridlock buses are because of the traffic and cars using the bus lane
The bus lane enforcement system will be in place soon and that will stop cars going in the bus lanes and then the bus corridors.
Personally I would go further and pull out more lanes of roads for luas etc and ban cars from sections of the city during periods or ban them altogether
Definitely busier on the public transport I use.
Can't find a recent article on cycling numbers they are all behind pay walls
fair enough :) But I think what he was referring to is only the dirt poor dont have cars if they wanted to have one.. Most people can choose to have or not to have something, other than the dirt poor who cannot choose to have something if they cant afford it!
I know ppl who dont have cars, but they choose not to, they could afford it if they wanted to!
So yeah still lame..
