A new thread for Spring general discussion.
Wet start in Greystones with definitely no snow. 4.9c atm.
Praying the temperatures rise a bit next week. Dying to get the shorts out, weather was hopefully mild about 2 weeks back but back to wet and miserable now. You really can’t blame the hordes of young people for emigrating to Australia, Barcelona, Vancouver etc. Even hearing discussions amongst older people with families in the office this week about moving to Lisbon for better weather.
Some wintriness mixed in this morning but just rain now. Torrential rain mid ulster . Temperature dropped to 0.8c in glenanne 12pm so maybe some more wintriness for parts
Looks like today is going to be a dry day here in Meath at last.
The two low centres missing us for once. Get the barbecue out Gonzo
Glenanne temperature down to 0.6c and recording heavy snow at 1pm
Beautiful morning in Kerry, lovely calm fresh air, a tonic after the dismal weather of late.
Pic: Fenit short time ago.
Wow! Stunning photos @Meteorite58.
Some lovely brightness in Dublin/Kildare today. But no sign of the wet ground drying out so far. No warmth in it. Nice to leave the grey clouds behind for a few hours though.
No warmth in it is right, but so lovely to see the bright blue sky!
It was a frosty start here this morning in Laois, but so good to see the blue skies and sun shining . Clouding over a bit now but still lovely out and no rain!
Rain turning increasingly to snow
edit heavy wet snow starting to accumulate on car
Another cracker of a day in West Mayo, almost wall to wall sunshine and feeling quite warm in sheltered spots, only a light SE breeze, this time the weather is missing us to the North.
Snow eased off just drizzle since
Big temperature contrast at 3pm
Lough fea 0c
Castlederg 2c
4 met stations 11c
It's snowing across parts of west and central Ulster this afternoon, even down to lower levels. Saw a video from Lifford there a short time ago. Statistically, there is a higher probability of a White Easter than a White Christmas in Ireland.
Glenshane Pass
A lovely day in Meath today, bags of sunshine and feeling warm in that sun, wasn't expecting today like this at all. Probably the best day of the year so far.
Amen. Still dry, bright and calm Meath. 11⁰
We often see 0c and snow in the northern third of the country and in the east when the south west hits 11-12c. But mid Ulster 0c and Meath 11c is a bit different!
I was thinking the same. Some images from Ulster in comparison to dry bright day here.
There seems to be alot of weather nuts from the Royal County. I can't believe it was dry and sunny all day. For such a small landmass it was certainly a day of March of many weathers
I can see the Welsh mountains looking SE on the train from Greystones to Wicklow today
Nice calm day in Laois, 11c on the flat, 8c on the higher ground. Feels warmer. Probably due to the lack of windchill and sun strength is the same as 14 September.
Sun incline is now at 40° at peak compared to 15° at winter solstice. We'll reach 60° by mid summer.
Lovely day in Tralee. As can be seen in meteorite58's photos the snow capped Slieve Mish mountains look absolutely stunning, especially on such a clear blue sky day. Pleasantly warm in sunshine but nippy in the shade but lovely overall, a treat after the last few horrible days.
Vancouver isn't a whole lot better than Ireland!
True as it's very rainy there. But don't they get nice summers? Much better than here from what I'm told.
A little bit better than say Dublin based on avg temps but those don't always tell the full story to be fair. Things like sunshine and what form the rain takes (heavy thundershowers vs a day of drizzle) make a big difference to perceived goodness or badness of the weather :)
For a couple of days models have been hinting at frontal snow for Northern areas next Wednesday. GFS has a large temperature contrast for 1pm Wednesday. 1/2c across the N, up to 12c in the South.
Snow amounts are small, 1/2cm across mid and west Ulster.
ECM has frontal snow next Wednesday as well. A more substantial fall up to 10cm. Central, eastern and south Ulster in particular, parts of N Leinster. One to keep an eye on
Little Samphire Island Lighthouse in Tralee Bay today.
Cooling down now to a chilly 4.0C
Beautiful photo!
Down to 2.8c in Arklow
Grass frost forming
Beautiful day today ,completely at odds with ladt nights forecast
Between this and yesterday's Cork snow and the Dublin heavy snow earlier in the month,Met Eireann really are having a few faux pax's in March
Brilliant photo..stunning.
Im in in Faro, unreal downpours here..
Thanks.
That's a shame, Portugal is so lovely in the Spring, looks a bit wet at times there for the weekend, hope ye can still get out and about. Could get some thunderstorms there tomorrow and Saturday afternoon, probably more so inland but could get some by the coast too.
