I think she's always been involved in Smaash from the start. I ate there once, nice food.
who is selling their burgers? Smaash isn't a brand name? I don't think they sell their burgers anywhere
Always been involved, but more so again now.
I think smash burger is a burger variety and they probably stuck another a in smash to avoid any trouble with the name.
I didn't say they invented the Smaash burger
There is one place in listowel that use their burgers
How is this advertised, do they mention on the Menu that the burgers are from Smaash burger ardfert? (just curious)
No it's not advertised in one place, another sells it as a Smash burger
But sure is a Smash burger nothing but a method of cooking a burger, I make smash burgers myself always as I like them that way, you start with a big meatball of mince in the pan then then 'smash' it down very flat so it spreads out and you crispy bits etc on the edges when cooked. There are tools for the job but I use a heavy saucepan and just press down hard with it.
Unless you mean that the other suppliers are using the particular meat/mince mix that they use in Ardfert like a McDonalds burger is always made to a McDonalds spec for ingredients etc and they are somehow similar to a franchise selling their burgers to other chippies, somehow I doubt it. They taste just like a plain meat burger to me, similar to what I make myself with nothing but good mince, nothing special other than the cooking method
I agree, v few burger joints if any making their own, same as buying off pallas foods etc
But this place in Listowel buys them of the takeaway in Ardfert?
I would say there's close to zero chance that one takeaway is buying a burger of another takeaway and every chance that you've misunderstood what a Smash burger is.
OK so
FYI I understand what a Smaash burger and a smash burger is but sure you work away with your zero chance statement
but how do you know they are buying the burgers from Smaash in Ardfert, do they advertise it?
I've a relative in the catering business, all suppliers talk to each other at various times
No it's not advertised the same any other place you get a burger don't advertise who supplies them
I'd say there will be a lot of interest in this as it is always busy. Owners retiring.
That's mad, I've been living in Tralee all my life and only visited the Oyster for the first time about 2 weeks ago and was instantly sorry I didn't go there more often. It's an old fashioned restaurant in the best kind of way. The service and the food were great and there is a good atmosphere from the bar. Hopefully somebody is willing to make a go of it.
Lots of golfers in my extended family so it's kind of been an institution for us since I was knee high as the go to place for confirmations, communions and any sort of celebration meal. Nothing ever pretensious about it and it never focused on being trendy, just good food and service always!
I didn't know what a "smash" burger was. 😁 But now that I do I realise I've been making home-made "smash burgers" for over 40 years!!!
I've always seasoned the pan rather than the burger and squashed it down to spread it out so that it spilt over the burger bun. And that seems to be just what it is.

I'll put you to shame and say that I must have been there close to 50 times... and I'm from Mayo. Huge time for Jim and the staff. It has been a very hard year for them. (The head chef died about a year ago and he was a real driving force in the business and obviously like one of the family)
I have very rarely gone to the Oyster, I don't think I have been there in over 10 years! Always seem to forget about it!
Must be at least 20 years since I was in the oyster.
Similarly, Kate browns but we were out last night and called in for a meal. Nice to see a reasonably priced menu and decent food.
It was a go to place in our family over the years too when my parents were alive and even after for a while but I haven't been there now for a few years. We often used to go there too for work night outs as there was only a small group of us.
Two empty units in town are now occupied, both with nail bars! One is where Meet me at Phillies was in the Square and the other is next to Gamestop in Russell st. Cos we really need 2 more nail bars! lol
I suppose we can be grateful that they are not more phone repair shops...
This is true! I never get my nails done, but it does seem to be a very popular thing to do these days (and expensive!).
Are they run as horribly exploitatively as the ones in the US? Underpaid imported workers in poor conditions threatened with deportation if they make trouble? Well documented problem there.
They are subject to the employment laws currently in force or the person hires the chair and is self employed
My daughter got a present of a voucher for one of them.€35 this morning to get the nails done. 😮 Glad she wasn't paying for it.
T.
I heard that someone is taking on the roast house. There seems to be a definite uptick in restaurants and pubs opening up in the town again which is a good thing.
It seems that Tesco in Manor West no longer allows people to buy up to five items and pay at the customer service counter, thereby forcing people to go through the checkouts no matter how many items they're buying. There was a fella there yesterday "guiding" people and telling them the good news. The section is cordoned off and you can't even access it (unless you're returning something) from inside the store.
I think it's an inconvenience having to queue up with your one or two items behind people with trollies full of groceries. As in a lot of shops, people allowing you to go ahead of them is a rarity, and the ones who don't are inconsiderate a-holes. 😂
